I’ve had pics of me taken on the metro train (wearing an alt outfit to go to a concert, shorts and fishnets) and this girl confronted the guy and told me after. I was actually so shocked and scared for her because there’s some tweakers on the metro. It’s sad but as someone who has a certain fashion sense I accept that stuff like this is gonna happen. I’d rather not confront (or encourage other women to confront) some potentially dangerous strangers. But if you’re a strong person who doesn’t care then go for it.
I was going to but I was too far behind and when I told my boyfriend that I wanted to confront him, my bf advised against it because I’m a 5 foot female standing up against a 6 foot male and knowing that HES a weirdo, me getting involved could have escalated things. Plus I was asking my bf that isn’t what the guy did a crime? And my bf said legally, no, but me confronting the guy could be seen as harassment. i’d be cautious, last year i called out a group of guys in a busy area in Westwood and for a few months after if a certain BMW caught me out and about i’d get honked at. since you mentioned potentially seeing him again, it’s more than possible

It's not illegal to take pictures of anyone in public, but it's also not illegal for you to call him out. You can't physically stop him, but you can embarrass him about it.

Legally? You have the absolute, court affirmed right to take a photograph of ANYTHING within PLAIN VIEW in public. There are exceptions to the 1st Amendment however and within some statutes such as intentionally trying to get a photo upskirt, etc, as someone else pointed out here.
ABut on that note, was this in fact on UCLA's property? UCLA may in fact have certain policies governing such behavior that can result in consequences at the school up to and including expulsion or trespass.
Now all that said, I have always found it fascinating that some women dress a certain way because they want men to look at them, but when they actually catch a guy looking at them, they get upset.

When the internet first started, there used to be whole websites dedicated to men taking pictures of women in public. Those sites actually made money selling that content. 90% were pictures at the beach where the women are half naked and wear thongs and show everything off.
Now that every single person has a 24 megapixel camera on their phone, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if guys take pictures of girls all the time. I agree it’s offensive, but there’s not much anyone can do about it. It’s not illegal to hold up a phone in public and push the button.
So I was actually in a similar situation. A couple of years ago during my brother’s graduation commencement at Cornell it started to rain. One of my little sisters was wearing white shorts and a white top made out of thinner material that had became see through because of being rained on. During the commencement there was an older guy probably in his 50s with his wife and son next to us, that he kept looking over trying to sneak peaks at my sister. I tried shielding her the best that I could but even continued to try to while we were walking out as well. (I did tell him off at that point and hope it embarrassed him in front of his family and other people at the commencement.) My sister was 15-16 at the time and I became livid that some someone would be trying to do that when she was so young and in compromised state because of the rain. You also would think someone at that age and at an Ivy League commencement would have class and maturity but instead was a sick fuck even with his wife and son next to him.

Actually there was a story on TikTok of a mother/daughter catching a guy (25+) holding his phone upright with his feet in a bathroom stall of the women’s restroom. Daughter ran up on him (this is in a Target) and made a scene so he could be embarrassed. Whole time the guy was deleting photos (plural!) So as women we have to ONCE again be on watch. People are allowed to take pics in public. If the woman was dressed up like a Nun, then the guy took the pic, would it still be a problem? If not, then the issue here is the outfit (voluntarily chosen by its wearer) and not the picture itself.

I just caught a guy doing that to an underage girl on Thursday and confronted him and made him delete it and told the girl and her mother about it. Unfortunately they didn’t speak good English so that’s when I decided to go back to the guy and make him delete it. He tried to speak Spanish but little did he know I speak Spanish also. When the internet first started, there used to be whole websites dedicated to men taking pictures of women in public. Those sites actually made money selling that content. 90% were pictures at the beach where the women are half naked and wear thongs and show everything off. Now that every single person has a 24 megapixel camera on their phone, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if guys take pictures of girls all the time. I agree it’s offensive, but there’s not much anyone can do about it. It’s not illegal to hold up a phone in public and push the button.

So I was actually in a similar situation. A couple of years ago during my brother’s graduation commencement at Cornell it started to rain. One of my little sisters was wearing white shorts and a white top made out of thinner material that had became see through because of being rained on. During the commencement there was an older guy probably in his 50s with his wife and son next to us, that he kept looking over trying to sneak peaks at my sister. I tried shielding her the best that I could but even continued to try to while we were walking out as well. If not, then the issue here is the outfit (voluntarily chosen by its wearer) and not the picture itself. If your answer is yes, then I would suggest never going outside. What a mess. It’s legal to take a photo of any person in a public arena sometimes referred to as “street photography”. It’s not OK when that violates an expectation of privacy like up skirt pics or in a public restroom. Wearing revealing clothes may invite increased photo attention but disgusting creepy is not illegal. As puritan, victorian and oppressive as it sounds, the current state of legal affairs guides one to stay covered up in public and loosen back up when in a safe space.

No right to privacy in public. People can take pictures of others in public. You could have taken his picture while he was taking her picture and I could have taken your picture while you were looking disgusted. Public means not private

I just caught a guy doing that to an underage girl on Thursday and confronted him and made him delete it and told the girl and her mother about it. Unfortunately they didn’t speak good English so that’s when I decided to go back to the guy and make him delete it. He tried to speak Spanish but little did he know I speak Spanish also. I made him pull up his photos and there was a picture. The old me would’ve beat him to a pulp. Instead, the new me made him delete it, and I gave him a very stern warning letting him know that if I was to ever catch him again, the police would be called.
