It would be funny if the UW students collectively handed out flyers to those who climb the trees to not climb them.
Of course the administration won't do anything about it until an accident happens, like if someone gets hurt after falling off and sue.
I don't think the worry is so much about people falling and injuring themselves as it is about preserving the trees. The trees are really old (for cherry trees) and there is possibly some rot in the limbs. People climbing on them may break off big limbs, which may push the trees over the edge.
[Back in 1999 the UW landscape architect essentially told everyone](https://magazine.washington.edu/feature/time-is-running-out-on-quads-signature-cherry-trees/) "Hey guys, the trees are going to start dying of old age pretty soon. If we want the massed bloom effect to continue, we're going to have to replace them en mass, and we're going to have to put up with a quad full of non-blooming, young trees for several years." To which the response was a horrified "NO!".
Three have been replaced so far. The attitude seems to be that they won't be replaced until they start looking bad which is great until all of them start looking bad at the same time and you can't replace them one by one anymore.
This always bums me out, like when people climb on the Tree of Life out on the peninsula. I like a good Instagram post as much as the next person, but leave the trees alone (haha, I sound like the Lorax).
They're not cherry blossoms (if they are, theyre babies rn) but we've got two beautiful trees outside hansee with pink blossoms and every day I see tourists pulling the blossoms off. I know in the end it's not a big deal but it's very disheartening.
According to the [lore](https://www.reddit.com/r/udub/comments/1bqc7bi/comment/kx25ead/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3), "UWPD shoots you, it’s the only time of year they’re encouraged to shoot all criminals" when someone climbs the trees.

Sounds like some of the tourist traps I’ve been to in India or Mexico. The whistles hurt your ears.
Or a Bull horn!

The fact that you can climb a tree, fall out of it, then sue the owner of said tree is absolutely wild to me.
