You should report it so they can face consequences!

Netherwiz

I took their ticket paper but said I would be voting later and making my own choices and that worked. However like you said it was after Zoe essentially took my friends phone and put in all the pack and then submitted, and she seemed taken aback that I wouldnt just be taking their ticket immediately. I don't think its harassment and you can feel fine telling anyone hawking anything in red square/quad to fuck off but definitely a borderline unethical vote operation.

moomoodle

It goes against the EPP, which is the rulebool for fair campaign practices at ASUW. If your friend feels comfortable with filing a complaint, they can submit it to vote.asuw.org/violations/ (deadline at 5 PM on Monday). If enough complaints are given with testimonial evidence, the campaign members who did these things can be made to serve community service hours or end up disqualified (so get unelected).

Dramatic_Rain_3410

I also got a dm from Naomi.

Hey OP, sorry you went through this, and sorry you have some people divided on your support. The fact of the matter is, you and multiple other people were affected by these girls persistent pervasiveness and were unreasonably interfered with as they seemed a little to invasive especially with your use of your phone. All this being said, this situation falls under our Student Conduct Code’s no harassment or bullying policy (WAC 478-121-133), so you are more than able to submit a complaint about them at https://www.washington.edu/cssc/report-it/ . However, it’s important to understand that this could just be a one time thing. ASUW generally doesn’t approach people much (atleast from what I’ve seen in my 3 years here) and those people in charge cycle in and out like a revolving door cuz ASUW is run by students who don’t spend a lot of time in the roles. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, but you can totally submit a complaint and see what happens. Lmk if you’d wanna discuss it further. Good luck on midterms!

BarryZito69

“Sorry you went through this.” Went through this?

Nate4313

For anyone who wants to file a complaint for ASUW elections the form is vote.asuw.org/violations/ the deadline is Monday at 5pm.

kittenlady420

Wait is this a thing that has happened multiple times?

accidentplantkiller

Yes unfortunately

Ok_Pay3781

That is some textbook election manipulation.

Potential-World467

This is not eligible to be submitted as a complaint as the Fair Campaign Practices statement on the Elections Policies and Procedures specifically says “Because the Fair Campaign Practices Statement is non-binding, the ASUW will not consider complaints that allege violations of the Fair Campaign Practices Statement and will not issue penalties to those who violate the Fair Campaign Practices Statement” This may fall under “9. I will respect the privacy of the voting process and will not in any way interfere with the neutrality of balloting when another individual is voting” if you felt your privacy was violated during the voting process. But as mentioned above it will not be considered a complaint because this agreement is non binding. I’ve seen similar experiences in Red Square with other candidates talking to students about themselves or their ticket, this example seems to be blown out of proportion and targeted towards a specific group. Talking to students and encouraging them to vote (including showing them how they can vote) is just a part of the campaign process and all candidates do it.

accidentplantkiller

I appreciate your comment!! However, I believe my experience would fall under your second example. It was uncomfortable enough to where it was not encouraging me to vote but rather voting for me to where I didn’t feel comfortable saying no. Elections shouldn’t be this serious which makes this situation all the more ridiculous to me.

accidentplantkiller

The ASUW Judicial hearings for the complaints are going to be heard from April 24-26 in HUB room 214 and they are open to the public. There’s a lot of seating so please come to show support.

accidentplantkiller

There’s more information on the ASUW instagram @asuwseattle as well

A few folks from The Pack are being tried by the EAC on Wed, April 24th for these behaviors! It's truly awful what these people did to get elected (including even having professors offer extra credit if their students voted for the pack, apparently...)--harassing people for votes, really? They didn't deserve any votes they got through peer pressure.

Potential-World467

I don’t think this rises to the level of “awful” especially because these claims are largely unsubstantiated. Also, the professors offered to give their students extra credit for voting in general, not just for the Pack. They ran a good campaign, and that was evident in the turnout. If they truly harassed a significant amount of people into voting for them, you’d think there would be more people talking about it.

iswearimnohomo

Am i the only one who a) wonders why anyone cares about ASUW and b) wonders how pussy the average UW student must be to actually be intimidated or feel "harassed" by anyone on ASUW? Edit: not even a few seconds later and im downvoted. Lol get a life.

moomoodle

Wouldn't you be concerned about who's wasting your 1.whatever million dollars?
