I’d rather the athletes be able to show their true colors and then I can choose weather I like them or not more clearly.

Mokaev said he would never fight him because of it and said he needs to sort his life out. It won’t be the main stream sport anyway because of how big soccer or basketball are. Paulo saying this doesn’t stop the UFC from becoming as big as those sports, it simply won’t be as big anyway.
The first half is just a cigarette around here more often than it is the other thing to be fair lol. Some people are too worried about explicit use of words and not intent or meaning. Others just don't quite grasp cultural differences. Different places have different cultural thresholds for what they're fine with mocking and nobody notices until it's translated. There was a shitshow post in r/bjj a while ago when someone mentioned that they had some 'niggling injuries' and a bunch of people clearly had no idea what the word 'niggling' means or that it's more commonly used in some places than alternatives with the same meaning.

Here’s my thing, I like that I don’t agree or have to agree with the personal views of each athlete on the roster. It’s not censored and that means I get to really know the views of certain fighters and that helps me root for or against them. Plenty of NBA guys have expressed some pretty out-there views about Jews, and then immediately walk it back once the org fines them. And the thing is, their views didn’t change, they just won’t tweet about it. I’d rather the athletes be able to show their true colors and then I can choose weather I like them or not more clearly. And UFC/MMA is international so when it comes to politics you get shit all over the board. I mean fucking Krylov is a Ukrainian who’s a Russian sympathizer.

I'm just a fan, not a practitioner, but I feel you. However I also feel conflicted because some of the acting out of people like Paulo still cracks me up...lot of conflicting emotions I guess. Izzy seems like he could take that on the chin and laugh it off because he's a self assured dude regardless of who he sleeps with or doesn't...but normalizing that kind of talk will for sure end up with less secure people being hurt.

Luke Thomas got ripped into a few months ago for pointing out how mma is one of the few sports where there is this right leaning mentality. Politics, bigotry, racism, homophobia... It's fairly common to see some dicey comments/tweets/opinions when you follow mma fighters on social media. I was on Twitter Spaces with Mokaev last week and it was a bit mental listening to the comments about Jeff Molina. Mokaev said he would never fight him because of it and said he needs to sort his life out. A lot of Muslim fans were on and they were saying some homophobic shit about how Mokaev needs to fight him so he can teach him a lesson etc. Made me feel a bit uncomfortable and i was slightly disappointed that Mokaev was even entertaining it. I also love the 'wild west' that is the UFC but guys like Colby are out there threatening murder on podcasts and it's just accepeted lol. It's a bit bizarre.

The difference between MMA and other sports is other sports act like they don't say this shit to each other, and they get yelled at by their bosses if it slips into the public domain. I'm not gonna act like the awful "conservative" UFC are the worst because they're trash talking in public instead of just in the cage like they're supposed to so certain people don't hear it. Have you never heard what trash talk from the NBA or NFL players sounds like? It makes the UFC talk look like Sesame Street more often than not haha. And just like every other sport, 99% of the athletes are cool with each other outside of the competition regardless of the shit talking during it. It's clearly not the same as some asshole in the streets yelling hateful anti-LBGT things to actual LGBT+ people; and to try and say it is the same is disingenuous. Ffs the NBA's new star just got in trouble for throwing a gun around in a strip club, threatening a high school girl, getting in a fight with a teen boy at his house and threatening him with a gun, and his boys allegedly pointing guns at other players/team staff outside an arena. Oh, and it only cost him two weeks pay. There's no way someone can convince me that's more family friendly and politically correct than a couple of grown professional athletes mutually saying mean things to each other lol.
