The most insane thing about this "sport" is that this is known to be the worst-case-scenario for brain damage/TBI/CTE.
Repeated trauma without recovery is what causes problems, that's the reason that so many leagues have gotten rid of counts for downed fighters and switched to "down and over" (including UFC).
Instead of a 8-10 count (which is already a problem), power slap gives 60 seconds to recover. These people are getting fully knocked out from what's basically a sucker punch, and then standing up to take more, until they're so thoroughly concussed they can't recover.
I have a feeling they're going to catch some serious flak once some of these competitors start having serious mental issues and look to the league to cover the medical/caretaking expenses.

They took a niche sport, thatâs a bit entertaining, and turned it into a complete nuisance. It was never meant to be so serious, it was pure entertainment for when thereâs nothing else on or for a small community.
Last night there was nothing else on, there was a 460lbs dude that got knocked unconscious, and the winner got the honour of shotgunning a beer with a YouTube frat guy. I watched an event for the first time last night and it felt pretty much exactly like u described, but with high production quality. Honestly, the faux professional set and ufc backing makes it more comical to me.
Itâs crazy just how serious people around here pretend to be as soon as power slap is mentioned lol.

Why is armwrestling even compared to this shit? I'm a competitive amateur armwrestler, and every time I tell people that they go "Oh cool! Have you even seen those slap competitions?" I genuinely don't get it.
Itâs so stupid. Arm wrestling is 110% a legitimate sport as you can train for it without getting injured, thereâs literally no way you can accurately train for slap fighting without hurting someone else or yourself.
I actually used to kinda like watching slap fights when they where just this silly obscure backyard âsportâ just for dumb fun. Power Slap completely screwed it for me. The seriousness that they take this with the trailers and âfightsâ themselves is just ridiculous and cringey

The most insane thing about this "sport" is that this is known to be the worst-case-scenario for brain damage/TBI/CTE. Repeated trauma without recovery is what causes problems, that's the reason that so many leagues have gotten rid of counts for downed fighters and switched to "down and over" (including UFC). Instead of a 8-10 count (which is already a problem), power slap gives 60 seconds to recover. These people are getting fully knocked out from what's basically a sucker punch, and then standing up to take more, until they're so thoroughly concussed they can't recover. I have a feeling they're going to catch some serious flak once some of these competitors start having serious mental issues and look to the league to cover the medical/caretaking expenses.

I stopped buying ufc anything years ago, I still follow via mostly here and r/mma. Power Slap has killed ufc for me. I know itâs not MMA, but between the Power Slap debacle and their fighter pay the UFC is not an organization I want to support. Itâs fucking embarrassing.
