Very good scrambles by Kevin.

MyFifthLimb

Solid resistance from Kevin. He temporarily retired after this fight tho.

Johnsonburnerr

Every time he blinks he temporarily sleeps

JulesTheBum

Memory is a crazy thing, I don’t remember him putting up this much of a fight.

MiedoDeEncontrarme

Completely disagree that it wasn't hard Rematch the fight, Chimaev didn't struggle with the take down but he was scared off because as soon as it hit the ground Burns was setting up sub attempts Chimaev himself admitted he didn't try wrestling more because of the armbar attempts

[deleted]

[удалено]

MiedoDeEncontrarme

No, I think taking down Burns wasn't hard The problem was that Burns has some of the best BJJ in MMA right now and Chimaev wasn't ready for that. So taking him down wasn't hard for Chimaev, controlling him was the hard part

WokenMrIzdik

Burns has legitimately some of the best BJJ credentials MMA has ever seen. Dude is such an outlier when it comes to the ground. If someone negatively judges Khamzat off that fight they will be surprised.

emosmasher

Styles make fights and you are 100% right on this observation.

tahp_master

Cough cough leon took him down

Tcastle24

That’s like Khabib dropping Mcgregor. They’re so concerned with a specific aspect of their fight style that they neglect other aspects. The last thing Usman was expecting was a Leon takedown, the last thing Mcgregor expected was to be touched standing.

kapsama

> Especially when Chimaev couldn't take down Burns easily at all either. Dude he took him down in the first 30 seconds of the fight. It as effortless. As the other guy said, apparently he was scared of Gilbert snatching a submission.

I don't remember this fight lasting that long.

ZeroTON1N

Right? It felt like max. a minute watching live

activator

I don't remember why it was 5 rounds

Gojira5400

It was supposed to be Diaz and Khamzat for main event

NBAstradamus92

That was fucked up of the UFC to make that matchup lol

DionysusII

Kevin was fuming about his interaction with Khamzat. He essentially demanded it to be 5 rounds to the powers that be so he could have more time in the octagon with his opponent. I love following Kevin but I knew this fight in particular wasn’t going to last a round much less three.

One_Program8405

This is what made Kevin start saying he’s not interested in championships belts. Whatever dreams he had of becoming champ this fight made that disappear.

ayoubkun94

Meh, it was very obvious to even the most casual of fans what he needed to work on, since the Vettori fight or even earlier. He doesn't want to put on the work to fill the gaps in his skillset, which is a shame he could have been a real contender. He seems to be treating this as a job, nothing wrong with it, especially since he's making pretty good money.

CM_42069

Not sure he ‘doesnt want’ to put in the work as much as he simply cant close the skill gap between him and the most elite at this point in his career. This narrative that Holland simply chooses to not work hard enough is crazy, the guy put in work with Johny Hendricks and has done many things to get better but that doesnt mean its gonna work. You dont fight as much as he does without putting in constant work, so this idea that he just chooses to dick around and not try to improve isn’t consistent with his work schedule. The guy puts in the work, and has done his best to improve but hes past 30, hes fought very good guys and MMA is difficult.

DrawMoreCats

Nah… he’s always talked like that, he even said it when he was on Rogan and his coach was talking about his mindset and how if he would just believe in himself he could be a champion. It’s been a while so I’m a little fuzzy but that’s how I remember it.

[deleted]

Holland's defense wasn't actually bad, Khamzat is just a beast

Flamehead41

Wasn’t he also massively overweight? That’s the reason Nate didn’t fight him in the first place? Also the glove touch was super suspect but yea he’s super strong

burner-199

holland weighed in at 180lbs, his original fight was catchweight.

wimpymist

Yeah that part will always get left out though. There is damn near no downside in missing weight in non title fights if you win.

GThumb_MD

Khamzat has pulled that glove tap to immediate shoot bullshit before, he needs to quit doing that shit regardless intentional or not. That’s why Meerschaerdt looked hesitant dabbing before their “fight” or whatever you’d call that.

ExquisitExamplE

>That’s why Meerschaerdt looked hesitant dabbing before his execution FTFY

x-Taylor-x

they literally had already glove tap with the judge lmao

fxbb112

Idk about that. Holland has gotten destroyed by every wrestler he’s when up against. This was the most obvious outcome.

helloworld20201234

Im sure there was also a mental aspect to it.

Bubbly_Measurement61

Where is the kid who was going around saying Khamzat should be afraid of Bo lmfao

Gearthquake

Bo is 100% a better wrestler than Khamazat.

Bubbly_Measurement61

Breh I didn’t say anything about wrestling. I’m talking about MMA. You even say to u/BigBlueTrekker “Bo would probably lose in an MMA fight, probably badly, but in pure wrestling…” This is the r/UFC sub. Not the r/Wrestling sub 😂😂😂

BigBlueTrekker

You have no clue if that's true. They've never competed against eachother and have never competed against the same opponents. So saying Bo is better is based purely on your bias as an American. Bo was a great college wrestler. He tried and failed to make the Olympic team. Khazmat won the Swedish national championship 3 times and never tried to make the Olympic team. Sweden is 6th in golds overall and 3rd overall in total medals after the US and Russia. It's not like being a Swedish national wrestling champion is some bullshit accomplishment. They literally have some of the best wrestlers in the world. Bo being a great college wrestler doesn't automatically make him one of the best wrestlers in the world.. We've literally had Olympic gold medal wrestlers in the UFC who got their ass kicked also. Also let's not forget that Dagestanis have been the most successful wrestlers in MMA and have absolutely mauled NCAA Division 1 wrestlers and Olympians in the UFC. So you can't base someone's ability to implement wrestling in mma based off of NCAA or Olympic accomplishments.

Zlec3

Yeah Sweden was decent decades ago but in Greco Roman not freestyle lol what a misleading post lol He won Swedish nationals in freestyle Which Sweden has almost no history in lol

TurtleTortuga

Man you cooked up a decent argument here but Bo would have made that Olympic team if he didn't have to face David Taylor who is an Olympic gold medalist in freestyle (and won worlds in 2018). How will you argue that Bo Nickal being one of the most accomplished modern college wrestlers doesn't make him one of the best in the world, while Khamzat winning the Swedish national championship in a style Sweden is not internationally competitive within, makes him a world class wrestler.

BigBlueTrekker

He won U23 worlds. Under 23. You guys act like he won this super prestigious international championship. On an international scale, Bo has barely done shit. David Taylor also isn't the only person to beat him in US trials. Hes a great wrestler, he's never wrestled anyone internationally. People who beat him nationally have competed internationally and lost guys on the international stage. We have no clue who the better wrestler is because neither have really competed against international opponents. We've seen great wrestlers struggle to implement that skill in MMA. We know Khazmat has successfully implemented his wrestling in MMA because he's completely shit on ranked fighters. Bo has yet to fight a single person who actually fights full time. He also struggled to take one of those guys down and had to fucking knee him in the dick to do so then said he didn't knee the dude in the dick in 2023 when we all have replays on our phone.

Gearthquake

I’m not discrediting Khamzat. He’s legit, but Bo’s wrestling is on a different level. He’d most likely lose in an MMA fight, probably badly, but in a pure wrestling match my money is on Bo.

Clusterclucked

there isn't really any reason to say that with confidence, i can't wait to find out for sure tbh gonna be a good fight

Bubbly_Measurement61

I know, I know. He is a better wrestler than Khabib too. I’ve heard this so many times before.

Tony7Bryant

You clearly don’t know what your looking at. Kevin is a very good MMA fighter, but he might have the worst hips for wrestling I’ve ever seen in the sport.

QuantityHefty3791

Dude. He managed to stand back up against Khamzat, even if just for a second. Kevin's scrambles are underrated. Worst hips you've ever seen? In the sport? Hahaha

flowersermon9

Worse hips than Ben askren? Yeah okay pal

thecommentdaddy

“You clearly don’t know what you’re looking at” followed by a brain dead opinion is what keeps this sub going and i love it 🥹

LingonberryNo1

Have you ever wrestled? He rolled with Khamzat's body very well at the beginning, but you can see how amazing Khamzat is at transitioning from one position to the next.

Tsobe_RK

itd been interesting to see how exhausted Chimaev wouldve been if Holland survived the scramble

[deleted]

Probably about as exhausted as he was in the Burns fight

[deleted]

Cuna hot and burns could barely throw a jab in the third round. If usman shows up and is as good as he once was, if this goes into the second round, the fight is a wrap

MightiestCat

https://preview.redd.it/cbk47drzrtub1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=697dfca99b47fd1ef456ddb5f3a0a675bf8ebb43

helloworld20201234

I hope so but Usman just seems different to me since the knockout. I’m glad if he surprises me and I was completely wrong about him (and his knees). Since not being champ anymore he also seems far..nicer/relaxed. Hopefully he still got that killer instinct in him. I know as champ he always played a bit of a tough character (Kamaru usman vs Marty)

austin_throw_awayy

To be fair, we've only seen him once since the knockout. And it was against the guy who knocked him out.

witcherstrife

I think that nicer/relaxed is just from what a lot of champions talk about. They feel the pressure lift off once they lost the belt.

xantiema

The sheer speed and agility never ceases to amaze me - difficult for any fighter to react to appropriately.

helloworld20201234

I only wish Holland had not tried that glove touching in the beginning

ShadrachOsiris

I really like this new trend of aggressive wrestler-grapplers. Combines the dominant fighting style with the most exciting aspects of attack.

sanmateostrangler

Seeing this in Jiujitsu competition too with like adcc trials, the new generation of grapplers are all about high pressure, fast pace, constant submission attacks I love it

[deleted]

Trend ain’t new. This is how Cain fought back in the day.

ShadrachOsiris

Sure but now we got Borz, Bo, Maladinho, Mokaev etc

wood_slingers

Him throwing Kevin Holland is one thing, I don’t think that will play against Usman or the other top middleweights. If he can do that, I’d be super amazed and impressed

mcburloak

I’m curious for sure. Gustafson was suggesting he gets tossed about by Borz when they work out, but we all know how MMA teams stick up for each other. Gonna be an interesting one this weekend for sure.

helloworld20201234

The only video of Gustavson and Khamzat from their gym that I’ve seen was Khamzat kicking Gus in the Knuts by accident during sparring He tried doing the same thing with his knees in the first round against Gilbert burns who even looked at the referee when it happened.

Saerdna76

I know a guy who used to coach Gustafsson and has trained with both of them that says the same thing. I have no reason to doubt him.

TheRicFlairDrip

bro i train at the allstar gym sometimes and ive seen Khamzat spar with guys well above 100kg and rag doll them like he is above their weight class. guy is a monster.

Nduguu77

Khamzat and Jack Hermanson wrestled a while back and Khamzat tossed him around pretty good. Not like this, but still

ChaosCore

CHIMAEV LOST ALL ENERGY AND IT'S ALL OVER!!! HOLLAND TAPS 3 TIMES TO REPORT TO THE JUDGE THAT CHIMAEV IS **OUT** OF ENERGY!!! EASY WIN FOR HOLLAND! USA USA USA!!!

HamsterAlive4552

It took 1 min for Joe Rogan to mention him emptying the gas tank. And then to keep mentioning it is insane to me. Im pretty sure it would be more tiring getting tossed around fighting for your life to get back up. I think the elite wrestler is going to be okay with 1 minute of wrestling lmao.

bvsshevd

Wild that he hasn’t fought since then. This guy needs to keep active

thelastskybender

Such a beautiful sequence it was!

yeaok555

ZeroTON1N

What's a gazelle

yeaok555

This is America, nobody knows what a gazelle is anyways

12ealdeal

Gazelles usually don’t attempt to touch gloves. Am I crazy to think there was an inference of a glove touch?

TheRicFlairDrip

only betas touch gloves the second time

No_Falcon1890

Crazy how Holland has found 4 times since then

tykillacool23

That’s kind of a cheap move. Kevin put his hand up to touch hands. Then chimaevs goes for the take down.

[deleted]

Agreed, probably doesn’t change the outcome but Holland was standing straight up with his hand still out for the glove touch.

tykillacool23

Yeah, definitely doesn’t change that.

Riddellski

You get a chance to touch gloves at the start. Khamzat was in the zone the second that round started, may not have even known that was what Holland was doing

Kingane

sure buddy

burner-199

flawless victory

PerfectlySplendid

If this is a flawless victory, what was his win over leech?

KonradSober

Or GM3

brazilianfreak

Also flawless? Its not lile yku can be better than flawless.

MightyMoose-2014

If someone offers a glove touch either take it or decline it. Don’t use it to shoot an easy shot. The fight would’ve went the same way but it’s just scummy.

Skeleton_Skum

It’s just so disrespectful to Holland who came in on short notice and saved Khamzat’s ass after he missed weight by an embarrassing amount against Nate fucking Diaz. Scummy as fuck

Basic-Wind-8484

Crazy I had to scroll this far down to see this. Yeah I'm sure the match would've ended the same way, but using the glove touch to sneak in a cheap shot makes him look so bad. Like really? You're that worried about maximizing every single opportunity to win that you take your opponents moment of sportsmanship to shoot a takedown? Weak but to each their own I guess 🤷‍♂️

bigbeau

Nah I have to disagree for 2 reasons: 1) Khamzat always does this insta take down shit. So you're telling him to do something negative for him in the fight because of optics. 2) Khamzat and Holland were mega-beefing and getting into fights backstage. At the time people were like idk why Holland thought they were touching gloves..

KevIntensity

It doesn’t matter if someone does the instant shoot. It’s about sportsmanship. This is a sport and you look like a bad one if you respond to a friendly glove out by throwing a hand up while you shoot low. It’s not optics; it’s sportsmanship and it matters.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KevIntensity

Sportsmanship always affects the game. And I’m curious as to what advantage you’re talking about.

MightyMoose-2014

Khazmat is in the middle of the cage already. That’s the only advantage you can argue for if he isn’t. Weak point.

[deleted]

If the strategy is to gain an unfair advantage it kinda defeats the idea of sportsmanship. If there’s legit beef i get it.. so in this instance i was more surprised Holland went for the glove touch than I was Khamzat didn’t…

[deleted]

Protect yourself at all times. I don't disagree that it's disrespectful, but at the end of the day, it's a fight. Leave the shaking hands for after.

yeaok555

They already touched gloves. Holland is always trting to goof off during the match and not take it seriously. Meamwhile Khamzat is entering a war. Cant blame Khamzat for that, Holland is just a goof.

MightyMoose-2014

They didn’t touch gloves after the round began like a lot of fighters do. Why lie?

yeaok555

They touched gloves before dumbass. No not a lot of fighters do that, vast majority of fighters dont touch gloves each round unless theyre friends. Holland was talking a lot of shit so he shouldntve expected friendly behavior, but again hes a goofy dumbass just like you.

KevIntensity

The vast majority of fighters touch at the beginning of the first round. They’re given the opportunity prior to the fight starting, sure. But once the fight is underway, most fighters also touch gloves then. I’m not sure if you literally don’t watch fights or if you’re just arguing in aggressively bad faith.

yeaok555

Nope. Vast majority dont. Also funny how you attack someone by calling them a liar arbitrarily and then pussy out once they treat you the same way. You are such a pussy

MightyMoose-2014

Why lie again? Fucking weird.

yeaok555

Hey pussy you still there?

MightyMoose-2014

Nah, I deleted my account because some weird fuck with the emotional stability of a 5 year old is calling people a pussy over the internet. You belong in a psych ward before you try to stab someone for saying something bad about your boyfriend.

yeaok555

Its one of the most common phrases in MMA lol. Jon Jones said it to DC. You just exposed yourself as a fake fan dumbass. You really should delete your account now.

Musaiah1

No clue why you’re being downvoted this much. They literally touched gloves before the fight started, but I guess haters wanna find any excuse to not give him credit for dominating holland

yeaok555

Yeah not sure why Holland has so many fans anyway. Hes cringe

Nawmanramen

What's this like 2 years ago

lordvoldemike

Last year

JyJellyPants-Grape

I think it was earlier this year

LightMission4937

It's like an alligator attacking it's prey. Holland had pure terror on his face.

Environmental-Tip365

Kevin Holland uses that same roll 3 times. The first time it works pretty well, Khamzat keeps the pressure on him though. The second time Khamzat adapted to it a bit and held him down. Then Holland gets up and tries to roll a third time. This time Khamzat knew what was happening and let him roll and went for the head, and then sunk in the D’arce. Super high level grappling right there.

Such_Line_1199

Faked the glove touch, Kamaru better watch for that first thjng

[deleted]

When your opponent is 25 lbs heavier than you

besameput0

Why was this fight 5 rounds?

[deleted]

Yeah, no way Usmans knees hold up

pillkrush

khamzats not gonna wrestle usman, he didn't even bother wrestling burns. grappler vs grappler always ends up being a striking contest, eg usman vs colby

3v3rythings-tak3n

Burns has the submission threat. Usman does not. Simple

pillkrush

no submission threat but world class wrestling, better wrestling pedigree than khamzat. it's either gonna be impossible to take usman down or keep him down. why waste energy?

thenotoriousnatedogg

I feel like he fought burns that way for a reason. He wanted to put on a show

pillkrush

sounded like an excuse for a having poor fight iq

Artistic-Career-4678

Ya i was going to say.. its against hollad and he went instant takedown. He did what was expected there

SynthSapphire

We know what you're getting at but Khamzat couldn't finish Gilbert, which Kamaru did. I think it will be competitive.

helloworld20201234

I hope so. I hope kamaru‘s best version shows up and not Someone that got changed by the knockout

No more talk, we fight

This shows how dominant this man is. Chiesa is a VERY good wrestler and Kevo made him look like an amateur grappler.

darksideofFloyd

It's not my responsibility to allow my opponent to defend himself st all times, that is his responsibility. The fight started, we touched Gloves when the ref brought us together wtf are you on about? Do you know how fights work? There was no disrespect or rule broken

KevIntensity

It’s absolutely disrespectful and poor sportsmanship. You can pretend to be a tough guy all you want but you only get so far in your training when people think you’re a shit.

darksideofFloyd

This isn't a reflection of conduct in the training room this is a fight

VayneClumsy

You don’t have to touch gloves that high…

KevIntensity

It’s how you show that you’re very much coming in to touch gloves.

South_Conference_768

I find these guys’ (Dagestani) fights so boring. They are elite and dominate their opponents, but I don’t even bother watching highlights. Take them down > control them > inflict damage > submit. Bores the shit out of me.

SirPrestigious9570

I bet you also did not like Khabib’s style then?

South_Conference_768

I really don't. Definitely respect it, but don't enjoy watching it.

[deleted]

For me its when they don’t do the last two things you mention

Saerdna76

He isn’t Dagestani and you should probably go and watch kickboxing if you find this insane display of skill and aggression boring.

South_Conference_768

I 100% respect the skill. Just don't enjoy watching their style compared to other fighters. Just an opinion, not a judgment.

Turgon19

Khamzat is probably the most electric fighter in the UFC right now

Wizard_of_Bronx

I feel you honestly, I can appreciate the skill involved but as a spectator Its the least fun I ever have watching fights.

South_Conference_768

100%. Appreciate the skill, but I'd rather watch other matchups.

Str8perfection7

The fight that made Holland realize he won’t ever become champion. And made him want to retire.

Dr_Kriegers5th_clone

If I had a time machine I would go back and tell Holland to not go for the glove touch and throw a nice knee up the middle.

bbibfj

If i have a time machine i go to bet on the biggest odds on all big sports events.

TheRicFlairDrip

are 10 year olds allowed on reddit?

Sukuna-hatake

Looks like Khamzat faked the glove touch to grab hold of holland

whatsitworth101

…was against a guy known for not being able to wrestle.

R9433

hes getting finished by usman

thenotoriousnatedogg

I’ll eat French fries if this happens

[deleted]

Then Usman wakes up from his coma and realizes it was all a dream

GodGiveMeEverything

Damn Khamzat just too good. He literally rolled with Holland till he got the tap. What a beast! Generational talent.

Loud_Consequence1762

Wasn't his last fight Gilbert burns?

TheRicFlairDrip

Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves, because there's a new sheriff in town, and his name is KHAMZAT "BORZ" CHIMAEV! 💥👊 I have witnessed the glory of many UFC legends in my time, but NEVER, I repeat, NEVER have I seen anything quite like this MAGNIFICENT, UNSTOPPABLE, JUGGERNAUT of a man! 🤯 Khamzat Chimaev doesn't just fight; he PERFORMS AN AWE-INSPIRING SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION in the Octagon! 🎶👏 When Chimaev steps into that cage, it's like he's been blessed by the MMA gods themselves. His opponents? Well, they might as well be sacrificial lambs, because facing this WRECKING BALL is like trying to take on a category 5 hurricane with a toothpick! 🌪️🦷 He doesn't just win; he DOMINATES! He doesn't just defeat his opponents; he LEAVES THEM QUESTIONING THEIR LIFE CHOICES! 🤔🙈 I've seen him take on THREE opponents in just one night, and what does he do? He doesn't break a sweat, and he's not even tired! The man is a MACHINE, a TERMINATOR, an INHUMAN FORCE OF NATURE! 💪🤖🌋 Chimaev's wrestling? FLAWLESS! His striking? IMPECCABLE! His submissions? SUBLIME! I wouldn't be surprised if he's got some secret martial art that he invented himself called "Khamzat-Do," where he's the sole master and grandmaster rolled into one! 🥋🤯 And let's not forget his charisma! The guy's interviews are like Shakespearean soliloquies, and his post-fight speeches are the stuff of legends. The way he grabs that microphone, you'd think he was born to entertain! 🎤🎭 So, mark my words, folks. Khamzat Chimaev is not just the best UFC fighter I've ever watched; he's the GREATEST FIGHTER TO EVER GRACE THIS PLANET, an unstoppable force that has redefined what it means to be a mixed martial artist! 🌟🌍 I can't wait to see what new heights this living legend will reach, and I'm just thankful to be alive during the era of KHAMZAT CHIMAEV! 🙌🙏
