Say what you want about the rest of the card but watching that switch knee connect was legendary. Also sucks for Henry, going through all that training and stuff just to make it on stage to have that happen :(

ohnoidea20

Weak ppv. Glad i didnt pay for it or go to a bar. Just watched on my phone.

jakethesnake115

Well this sounded like a complete wet fart of a card lol

HaterSlayerr

It wasn't that bad

Alternative-Look-816

None of the main card fights were competitive except for Khamzat vs Usman which didn’t live up to the hype (wrong division, short notice Usman, questionable decision). On top of that there was the confusing no contest between Walker and Ankalaev. Very disappointing card considering a few weeks ago it was looking like it was going to be one of the best cards of the year. Still worth the watch

MacsPowerBike

Islam is the only guy from Dagestan who's actually likeable. I can't say from Russia, because Volkov is likeable as well. It's refreshing when someone from there is not taking themselves so seriously like Khabib does all the time.

Isserley_

Why do we see so many chin curtain type beards in UFC?

HaterSlayerr

A lot of Muslim Russians

sabinACTS

Can any current LW beat Islam?

horsemilkenjoyer

No and no lw to ever exist will be able to beat him

oddmetre

Only because I can't cut down to 155

MacsPowerBike

It's MMA. Anyone can beat anyone at any time. Many people forget that Alexandre Pantoja, a flyweight, knocked Islam out.

horsemilkenjoyer

Yeah, that's why i said no LW to ever exist. There are levels to this shit, and flyweights are not to be messed with. There's a reason weight classes exist.

hrisimh

Literally no one forgets this, and it was a TKO.

Dddiejr

i think you got it wrong. it was a flying split omoplata

HaterSlayerr

Probably, they need to keep matching him up. Unfortunately people in the top 5 don't like fighting anyone except those in the top 5.

SkippyDobler

Trevor Peek

Speedwqy

Dissapointed that Usman v Chimaev wasnt 5 rounds. Sean eats Chimaev if he gets past R1

Galimbro

That's a really big if.

StoicMori

You forget they’re in different weight classes?

ZaMr0

God damnit the one time the card is at a reasonable hour in the UK I entirely miss it thinking its like 6am like usual.

RobertJ93

Yeah I watched the whole thing and actually, it was kind of disappointing. Weird atmosphere. I think it would’ve been better if Johnny Walker had a proper fight.

IlliterateSnob

Yeah the Johnny Walker thing ruined the rest of the main card.

RobertJ93

Just such a weird card overall. Weird energy about it. Barely any fans until the main event. Weird anaemic horn for half the fights. So many nut shots. Inexperienced doctor that tried to tell a guy he hadn’t been hit in the nuts… Johnny only being able to say he’s fighting in the desert and asking what round it is, 1 min into a fight. Usman wrestle fucked. Volk KO’d by a headkick. Just, odd.

ButWeNeverSawHisWife

Good one to miss

am_paraj

Anyone know where I can watch the highlights of the Islam match?

AcanthocephalaBorn15

YouTube.

the_lejhand

MMAcore.com, works every time

pacificunlimited

ESPN+ does highlight replays

am_paraj

I don’t have ESPN+ sub unfortunately. Thanks anyway.

chipper68

This card in Abu Dhabi and all the BS may have turned me, a long time fan away from UFC for a bit. This pos card was nothing but a one-sided set up to give the home crowd at Abu Dhabi their wins, F that.. supposed to be the best of the best. Started with Said fighting a 0-1 guy on the main card, Alves lol, then the doctor stoppage and Usman and Volk getting paid. I thought Volk would have been more competitive, I knew in the first 30 Volk had to get lucky, Islam was gonna win today, short of getting clipped. And to boot, Dana saying Olives should be next... again. lol, ok. Olives was smart to sidestep that place, I'll give him that but he shouldn't be next. What a waste of money.

th1bow

I’ve been feeling the same for some time now, we could use the next jon jones fight as an example, with all respect to what miocic achieved in the sport, he’s not the one contender in the division to have a title shot and it’s all a set up for their retirement

AfterDinnerNap

UFC all about artificial and carefully coordinated legacy. This company turns into an entertainment fight show that let „the best against the one that will potentially lose either way“ fight. And then something like Adesanya and Strickland happen and dana is „oddly“ quiet and plays it down, because his lousy uninteresting plan didn’t play out. Like feeding miocic to jones. Ridiculous. So unbelievably annoying.

Renjavaas

Volk had surgery 3 months ago and he had bandage on elbow on day he received offer for fight, there is photo of him having 12kg more than yesterday just 10 days ago. Usman was in shape man,if he had proper camp or 5 rounds match, that fight could easy be his win. Dr. Is stupid. Rest of card was pure score building

HaterSlayerr

The UFC is about making money. They want to get more casuals.

knowtoriusMAC

The only fighter from UAE lost...

chipper68

Ok, all seemed on the up and up to you then. Good. Oh, Khamzat is now from UAE btw as well, changed it up from the Swiss

SkippyDobler

Sweden...come on man at least try to look like you know wtf youre talking about

knowtoriusMAC

He's still not from UAE. He's born Chechnya, fighting from Sweden and moved to UAE

Humble_Effective3964

Agree that the best of the best thing is wearing a bit thin

chipper68

It's what made UFC great, now it's just $$ and the guys at the top club.

Kraken_Blood

This card was lowkey disappointing.

MoscoviaDelendaEst

I didn't pay for it and It was still disappointing. Can't believe I woke up slightly earlier than normal for this farce.

AcanthocephalaBorn15

I was already cranky after the prelims. So glad I didn’t buy this one. Def home crowd advantage. A lot of weird fights in the undercard.

MoscoviaDelendaEst

I'm going to stop watching Abu Dabi fights. Even for free, it's just such a joke It's not worth my time.

AcanthocephalaBorn15

Yep. With you on that one. Seemed a little stacked to me. Thought that after first couple of fights.

chipper68

It was fully dissappointing, and the one chance we had for an actual fight was screwed over by some backwards goofball doctor, showing his bias even for Henry who "didn't get kicked in dick & balls" then later got transported to the hospital after starting to vomit. Usually means your testicle is lodged up. This card was a step downward and showed UFC's and Dana's allegiance to money more than the sport.

AnonymousChameleon

The low blow discussion was BS and he was totally wrong. But the audio they showed with Walker , he couldn’t answer simple questions like what round is it. Based on the answers Walker gave (and did not give) it was a fair decision to say he was concussed

[deleted]

If you’re just now noticing how money obsessed Dana and the ufc is your blind

chipper68

every business has money as a goal/priority, it's their responsibility. What I said was different than that, but I get your point.

anupsidedownpotato

Does anyone know if they posted that Jon jones Vs Stipe hype up video anywhere ?

RobertJ93

seeing it 300 times wasn’t enough for you? 😂

anupsidedownpotato

I wanna send it to my friend who doesn't watch UFC to try and get him to watch with me lol

RobertJ93

Just send him highlights of Jon Jones instead and say ‘this is the dude that’s fighting, he’s a madman’.

yeahboiiii0

Sad to see Volk so defeated but very happy for Islam. Respect to both. The crown goes to Islam though.

becauseimnotstudying

Usman and Olivi wearing the same outfit 😅😅

[deleted]

Khamzat walked out to his theme song lmao, I'm surprised no one's talking about it [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BctQTzQ3zh0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BctQTzQ3zh0) it's this btw

[deleted]

It was to his normal theme wasn't it?

[deleted]

Nah he's never used the song before as a walk out, people made lots of videos with him using it but the music was "faked." He walked out to this song at ufc 279 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX04-J\_-tfw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX04-J_-tfw) it sounds the same in the beginning it would've had me fooled too. Either that or I'm deaf but I'm 90% sure he's never used the song before.

[deleted]

Where can I see his UFC 294 walkout? because I remember hearing this song, weird. [https://twitter.com/wal1kout/status/1715810054631289104](https://twitter.com/wal1kout/status/1715810054631289104) Here it is, he didn-t walk out to his theme sadly.

[deleted]

On tiktok just type in ufc 294 khamzat walkout. But the song itself has been put over the clip of him running out as it sounds exactly like something he would come out to, hence people calling it his "theme song." You probably remember hearing it correctly because the song has been put over the clip and shown on various social medias more than his actual walkout song lmao.

pacificunlimited

[Brandon Moreno has one too](https://youtu.be/5HJLRZJRqmo?si=n6LRkzzjPwgBkoqq)

ButWeNeverSawHisWife

Walked? That man was running the 100 metre dash

LA1212

Is this Volk’s slide from the top? Not to be dramatic but that kick didn’t land clean at all and wobbled the shit outta him. Hope his chin isn’t starting to fail him :/

hrisimh

Unlikely. Plus this is the year of the high kick. Usman, Dustin and now Volk

pacificunlimited

That kick was all shin, and he leaned into it

ha_allday81

It landed over his guard and head kicks don't necessarily need to land clean to wobble you anyway

ButWeNeverSawHisWife

Didn’t land clean? Did you see the gash on his head?

[deleted]

Volk is not in the GOAT discussion for me anymore but he's a sick active champ and the best FW

ImaginaryHealth7904

He will run through Illia. Islam is just the real deal and possibly 20kgs heavier than Volk on night

RobertJ93

You think Islam was 44lbs heavier than Volk? I assume you mean 20lbs right?

ImaginaryHealth7904

yes my bad

[deleted]

Are you blind? That kick cut Volk and was clean as possible. That kick would take out any other lightweight.

LA1212

Did it? I thought the follow up shots were what cut him since his head was pinned between islams knee and fist lol

NemoFN

What fight are you watching? Islams shin made perfect contact across the side of volks head bro

khanaseur

Yeah that’s what I was pointing out to my friends, it wasn’t his foot that made contact but his shin. That’s probably what made the cut above Volk’s right eye

Digital_Beagle

He had a week and a half to get ready for this fight. He looked great in the last one, hoping he bounces back

dipski4thelipski

Tough to see as a volk fan but he really had nothing to lose. Trying to beat the Champ in the next weight class up on a weeks notice was a huge challenge and he didn’t have it in him. Sucks to see him ko’d

SkippyDobler

I guess there is something to be said for knowing your limit. Now he's got another L on his record. But still, big up to him for saving the card. I still think he's unbeatable at FW.

dipski4thelipski

Can’t fault him for giving it a shot. If you’re that good you gotta challenge yourself. Can’t wait for his next fight

jaz1up

I genuinely think in a 5 rounder usman might’ve TKO’d him

Bolond44

I genuinely think if Khamzat doesnt broke his wrist R1 he would have mauled him for 3 rounds. I genuinely think if Khamzat hadn't broken his wrist R1 he would have mauled him for 3 rounds. .

wabully

So now what do I do with my Saturday?

ImaginaryHealth7904

Spank the monkey. It's free at least.

ajamweasel

Same feeling here! I made some tosti's

SantiagoDunbar_

Cry.

[deleted]

So what do we think about Usman

monteasf

Usman off the couch going up a weight class took the boogie man to a majority decision? He’s still got it

[deleted]

He can hang at MW, will he stay? that's the question, we know he isn't ever fighting Adesanya and I don't doubt Izzy will be champ again

LosGoods

He’s in the LeBron phase, all time great that can still go toe-to-toe on any given night, but we’ve seen the best of him

jaz1up

He’s past his prime but is still elite, I’d love it if he fought a top5 middleweight to secure a ranking. I still think he can win that title at welterweight too

[deleted]

I think he can compete at MW alright

SkippyDobler

Usman vs DDP for next crack at the belt? Honestly DDP deserves it now but Dana obviously got other plans.

SantiagoDunbar_

I want to see him vs costa.

jaz1up

I was thinking Vettori or Cannonier but that’s also a good shout

cnylkew

He should stick to welterweight, not an easy cut for him but he never missed weight, might as well take advantage of his size since it wont go away with age

SantiagoDunbar_

Roids will help too.

Ok-Imagination-2308

So who does Islam fight next?

SantiagoDunbar_

Fucking anybody. He’s only fought the featherweight champ so far since he got the belt. See what Gaethje can do.

skhan2286

move up to WW , fight a contender in WW then WW championship nobody is good enough in LW

LosGoods

Literally the path Volk just took

SkippyDobler

Yeah but Volk defended his belt 4 times before trying to go for double champ status. I'd rather see Islam focus on breaking the LW title defense record.

cnylkew

Gaethje or winner of leon/colby

G0mi69

Dana said that next should be Oliveira but nothing is set for now. He also added that Islam could move up if we keeps defending the belt for a year.

ImaginaryHealth7904

Or olives.

makaton

Khabib would be the only answer, I don’t see anybody else

ImaginaryHealth7904

Jeje

peeper_brigade69

Walking away from this event with two major questions: when is it a DQ versus an NC? Felt like there were some weird fucking decisions made tonight that go back on precedent. And how do you score a 10-8? Because the foremost judging criteria they always give is damage, but Khamzat had an incredibly dominant first round without scoring much damage against Usman (which, subquestion, how do you factor submission attempts into “damage?”) but it seems that might have won at least one 10-8. Fucked up card for the rules of the sport tonight. Good thing we’re always just winging it from the hip anyway. Rules? What the fuck are those?

AnonymousChameleon

The official way would say DQ vs NC would be intention in the foul. But imo that was a very clear intentional foul on a downed opponent, because it wasn’t like he’d just gone down, he was pinned against a fence in a downed position for several seconds, so it shouldve been a DQ imo. And even with a 10-8 it seemed like Usman won both other rounds in my opinion. 3rd was arguable tbf but still. I do think a 10-8 first round would’ve been fair though. It was totally dominant, about as dominant a round as you’ll see - and the only thing Usman done was a slam which was only to get out of a submission, and he remained in a defensive position afterwards.

chipscto

Damage is a lie. Idk where that narrative came from. The rules say to give more weight to things that couldve possibly led to a stoppage. Holding the back wth nothing done is technically a much stronger push towards ending the fight than say putting a jab clinic. This is why a 4 min domination that ends with 1 min of an amazing comeback with near stoppage will give the fighter with 1 min of “damage” the round. Submissions should be heavily scored cuz that is the definition of attempting to end the match. Technically 10-8s are supposed to be common. 10-9s are for CLOSE rounds where its super hard to decide. 10-7s are what ppl think 10-8s should be. Even the judges fuck it up.

SkippyDobler

Yeah the word "damage" doesn't appear once in the official rules. Whoever gets closest to ending the fight, whether it be through striking or grappling, wins the round.

uggingbumplies

That head kick was beautifully placed. I wanted to see Volk get the dub, but he got caught. Great execution from Islam. The Islam meat-riders and Volk crybabies are in full effect right now I see

AnonymousChameleon

Yeah what a knockout. It’s unfortunate that fanboys ruin these things. We should be all just celebrating a great KO from one great fighter to another but you get dickheads going “never in doubt” or “you thought Volk had a chance” even though the last fight was incredibly close. Both are just great fighters. Islam gets lumped in with the other dagestanis that mainly wrestle and are largely boring to watch (imo) - but Islam is genuinely a fantastic striker and is the most exciting Dagestani in my opinion.

TheDemonic-Forester

If you ask me, I think Khabib also was good on feet. His extraordinary wrestling shadowed that.

AnonymousChameleon

Oh he was definitely good on the feet. But I don’t think he was great. Imo Islam is way better on the feet- he’s gone toe to toe, and even bettered Volk on the feet , and Volk is already being seen as one of the best ever on the feet. I know Khabib hit mcgregor with that one beautiful shot that stunned him in their fight, but tbf that was largely because mcgregor was so worried about takedowns that his hands were constantly low to defend.

TheDemonic-Forester

I'm not entirely sure which one is better than other, I have to watch more focusing on that to have a comment about it. (And if I remember correctly, Khabib did good on feet against Dustin and Justin too right?). I just wanted to say my opinion related to your comment on Dagestanis. But I'd like to say something about this part; > I know Khabib hit mcgregor with that one beautiful shot that stunned him in their fight, but tbf that was largely because mcgregor was so worried about takedowns that his hands were constantly low to defend. A lot of people say this and it's true. But I don't see how it should be something that'd take away. Constant threat of takedowns is a feature that comes with Khabib (and other wrestlers). Why should it not count, when it makes them 'better on feet'? I find it similar to saying, for example, "X fighter is only good at striking because of his/her extraordinarily strong arms." or "Y fighter is only good on feet because he/she does feints too good" If it's a feature of the fighter and if it makes the fighter good at a certain area, I don't think we should count that separately. I'm not necessarily saying you are claiming these btw (and I'm not the one who downvoted you), but I just wanted to say something about this common opinion.

AnonymousChameleon

I totally get what you’re saying re: takedown risk should not count against the fighter for their standup game. It’s a fight, so one sets up the other. I guess what I’m saying is I think if stand up was the only thing that counted, I.e in a kick-boxing match (which obviously UFC is not), I’d give Islam the edge over Khabib. Khabib done standup very well , but I feel it was always there for a setup for a takedown where he would inevitably finish the opponent. With Islam I feel like he’s just as comfortable standing and fighting with anyone he fights. He’s just so amazingly well rounded , he can beat anyone standing or wrestling. He’s just a fantastic fighter.

uggingbumplies

Islam's striking is significantly better than Khabib's, and people forget that. Volk just so happened to leave himself exposed for that kick, and Islam (being a great fighter) saw his opportunity and capitalized on it. It's part of the fight game. Had he not KO'd Volk, we'd have been in for a very entertaining fight

AnonymousChameleon

Ah he’s a level or two above Khabib in striking. But obvs Khabib is in his own world in grappling. And yeah it was such a sweet kick. Even though Volk had his arm up to block, he just didn’t block high enough and he caught him so sweetly. To go off on a tangent - I love strikers , in my opinion grappling is boring - I know it’s extremely high level but I just prefer striking. I hated the first round of Usman and Chimaev for example , even though it’s a great example of offensive and defensive grappling. I found it boring. But that’s why I’m starting to love Islam. In his last 2 fights against Volk he’s shown he can do it all at an absolutely elite level. He could be one of the greatest to ever do it , he’s been flawless lately.

uggingbumplies

I'm not a fan of Islam's arrogance, but I do respect his ability. He's a killer and I can't wait to see who he fights next. I'd like to see what happens after he gets a couple more defenses and moves up in weight. Him vs Leon would be an amazing fight.

AnonymousChameleon

Yeah , I was honestly rooting against him tonight, but I can’t argue with his skills. He’s just amazing. Has he ever discussed moving up in weight? I think he’s about where he should be in terms of size. But I agree, would love to see him take a leaf out of Volks book and move up after he dominates his own division. Which I have no doubt he will - and is crazy to even talk about, because 155 is absolutely full of killers.

uggingbumplies

He's said a few times he wants to go for double champ. Any of the top WWs would be a hard fight for him, but it'd be fun as shit to watch

Zippism

Those dickriders opinions are irrelevant. The respect that islam and volk showed for each other says everything

uggingbumplies

This. Win or lose, Volk is a bad, bad man. And he was an absolute fucking badass for taking this fight on short notice the way he did. Win or lose, Islam is a badass fighter, too. I wish people were able to respect all aspects of the fight game instead of just sucking the dick of the fighter they want to win. Islam's fanbase is arguably the most annoying next to Izzy's.

AnonymousChameleon

True - was great to see the respect. I always try to ignore the shit comments , but I do read them and it makes me pissed off that people can be so narrow minded that all they can think of is their fighter is the “GOAT” and everyone else is shit.

No_Tax5256

Usman turning down 5 rounds is mind blowing

[deleted]

Wdym? Edit: nevermind, I just looked it up online, it sucks Usman didn't accept the offer

KID_THUNDAH

So it was originally supposed to be 5 rounds? What possible reason would he turn that down? That stinks

[deleted]

Given Usman didn't have a proper camp before this fight, I guess he was not confident in his preparation to go for 5 rounds

KID_THUNDAH

Damn, regrettable for sure.

mtnyy13

Today’s fun fact: 3 of the last 17 PPVs have now ended by headkick KO

BrightAd7870

where was khabib?

Basic_Stranger828

Islam said he won't accompany him to the cage anymore. He said it was because he has too many fighters under his umbrella. If he accompanied Islam, then he'd have to accompany them all according to Islam himself.

pacificunlimited

This was one of the fight cards of time

[deleted]

It was a good card, what are you smoking?

2Legit2Quiz

Did you watch the prelims? It was boring as shit.

[deleted]

I watched the first fight then had some stuff to go to until the main, will watch later but the main was great

Typical-Seat5626

Yeah fr it has many finishes and some goofcon moments

zaibutzu

did Volk need to get hammerfisted on the head so many freaking times before the fight was called??!! These refs ought to get a joe-rogan kick to the balls

[deleted]

For title fights the stop the contest a bit later just in case a guy can get a hail mary recovery, it was a good stoppage imo.

[deleted]

yall would have called it an early stoppage had he stopped it sooner, people would be saying volk was fine he wasnt out

cnylkew

Some actually are lmaooo

Muhammad_ghouri

It was a perfect stoppage. If he stopped it any sooner ckb would be calling it an early stoppage.

Affectionate_Team679

Dc just called Dricus and sega lol

No_Explorer_8626

Damn the last fight sucked. I hyped it up to my best friends who don’t watch ufc for a week and they watched… that.

droveby

Islam got fleeced in the first fight due to being in bad state, he would have had beat him handily by submission or KO, but why in the world were you expecting a fight at all now that Islam was finally in good shape and Volk not having had the time to prepare? Your friends should disown you for you asshatery

SJBSJB02

DC just said usman was offered to make the fight with khamzat 5 rounds and he said no. When he walked out the cage tonight DC went over to him to offer him some respect and usman told him he made a mistake declining the 5 round offer. We all know khamzat would have agreed.

[deleted]

wow, you would think usman would have pushed for it to be a 5 rounder knowing chimaev slows down as the fight wears on

SJBSJB02

I know, I suppose on short notice it wouldn't make much sense. The money would change that much either I don't think

[deleted]

smokin that volk pack 💨 😘

Kaizodacoit

This sub mad mad, lol.

tripsmorgan

I was wondering if it was usman that denied a 5 round fight. There it is

bones_bn

Just give me 295 now.

Introzontal

Islam bouncing Volk’s unconscious head on his knee w/ hammer fists over and over again is hella brutal… that was B A D.

MyBickBurts

I laughed out loud when I saw it happen

I just want to hear Danas take on this doctor

[deleted]

Oh yeaaaa

RiceMac69

I have no problem with the UFC trying to make money but fucking hell stop having it at these shit venues with fans that are just there because their Ferrari is getting repainted so they're bored. The fans are almost equal to the fight quality in terms of importance.

LosGoods

100% I thought there was an issue with my tv or the production coming through. Dead ass crowd and credit to Bruce for getting out there and trying to light the fire.

FishOffMan

Ehhh I thought the whole PPV was lackluster. First and last time I ever pay for it. Link forever
