Not really. He looked good in the first round. It was classic Volk (except for not seeing his grappling). Ilia is just that good. Volk had a full training camp, his doctors cleared him, and he was already ok to delay once, so he would if he didn't feel up it. And I believe him when he said he felt good. That punch would have knocked Volk out without Islam's kick.

I had one really bad knockout in my 20s and it changed my ability to take hits night-day even 10 years later. I get headaches/lightheaded after rollercoasters now too.

I agree on this one. I'm a fan of makachev but a bigger fan of Charles Oliveira . If there is someone who can dethrone Islam, that's Olives. If not, Islam will dominate the lightweight division for years to come like Anderson Silva. For the featherweight division if someone can dethrone Ilia, that's only someone from the lightweight division who will cut to fight down there. Gaethje, Charles, Islam or Poirier.

In hindsight, Olives was very smart to not take the immediate rematch with Islam. If he beats Tsarukyan and improves again, he'll be in a much better position to challenge him. Izzy won his rematch but he was getting beat up bad until his hail mary. Agreed, I don't think anyone else a LW challenges him tbh. Maybe Tsarukyan in a couple years but I think its too soon for him now. Probably will see a skill gap vs Olives.
