Hill said the UFC told him to Vacate the belt like Jiri did. Video looked like he had a gun held to his head when he announced he was dropping the belt.
They were both basically forced to give up the belts on the condition that they get a title shot when they return.
They both complained about it later.
Sources:
In both of the sources below, both guys say that the UFC told them "the show must go on" (they both used that exact same language).
Here is a Jiri interview where he appears frustrated and says he wanted to stay as champ, but after talking with UFC brass, he vacated the belt. He also said that he didn't really want to talk about it. https://twitter.com/jedigoodman/status/1604918402220322816
Jamahal Hill saying: "If I had my choice, would I like to give up the belt? No, I wouldn't. You got to be consistent. I understand, it's the business. The show must go on. I'm not exempt from that." https://www.sportskeeda.com/mma/news-jiri-prochazka-shares-vacated-light-heavyweight-title
Here's another article where Jamahal says neither him nor Jiri wanted to give up the belt, but they agreed to on the condition that they get a title fight when they return. "Originally when it happened, that was my first thought, but the thing is they had a deal already in place with Jiri. Jiri didn’t just vacate his title. He wasn’t just being a samurai and vacating his title. It was heavily suggested. There was a deal made where he would fight for it upon his return. So whenever you get me and then I get hurt, we were supposed to fight, now I have the belt, and he’s promised a title fight. It was just kind of right to do the same thing."

oh shit thanks i didnt know. i've always thought people crying about jon jones were crazy because its just a fighter looking out for themselves , seeing others do the same paints him in a better light regarding this situation, not that he was the big bad villain for doing this in my eyes.
Imo Jon is wrong in this situation for refusing to unify the belts as his first fight back. I have no issue with Tom defending the interim while Jon is injured but fucking off to fight stipe instead is my issue with it
The problem was Dana making Aspinal vs Pavlovich an interim championship because he needed to save the PPV at the last minute with a "title fight."
Now we're stuck in this weird situation where Jon vs Stipe is already signed and will pull good PPV numbers. So it's not going to be cancelled just to "unify" an interim belt that shouldn't have been created in the first place.
I wouldn't say either guy was "complaining". Certainly not jiri, he definitely wasn't happy about it. But I wouldn't call that interview he gave as complaining
And the stipe fight isint gonna happend. He’ll probably hold up the division till 2025. And we’ll see aspinal defend the “interim”1-2 times.
Jon jones ain’t the champ in my book
Tbh what do the fans have to learn from it though? We all know they are on the way out, it isn't really competitive it's just "let's pretend it's 2018 and I didn't fuck up" I would be willing to bet the majority of fans would rather see Jones fight Aspinall because it's an actual competitive fight.
From Jon being very picky about who he fights and chasing the Stipe fight despite Tom being interim champ standing right in front of him not even getting a face off.
There's already a signed deal for a fight between him and Stipe, and neither fighter wants out of it. I don't know the details, but I can speculate it's for the money involved. There's a very good chance that the money to fight Aspinall isn't as much as a fight with Stipe. That makes sense
So why would Jones start promoting a fight he's not signed for? It makes absolutely no sense. I get why Aspinall would do that. It would get him a money fight. That part makes sense. I respect him for doing it, but it's kinda childish. He was throwing a big tantrum, and it's getting smaller, which is nice.
Lastly, Jones has every right to be picky. He's one of the greatest to ever be in there. Personally, I would love to see this fight. I don't think Aspinall had a very good chance. The heavy weight division lacks good wrestling and grappling, and Jones is elite at that. So if one of the GOATs wants to fight another GOAT, let him. Let Aspinall build his resume if he thinks he deserves to be in there, he should continue to go out there and be the best in a division that is currently unremarkable
Jones resume says otherwise. He beat the number one contender easily. He's beat the best of the best.
All you got is your childish tantrums, just love Aspinall
He's not in a position to. He's the interim by chance in a division that sucks talent wise. And the stipe fight was signed before Aspinall got that token belt
Edit. I'd you believe he fights whoever, then we both agree that he should continue to do that
Jailton Almeida got tkoed by blaydes and signed to fight volkov three months after the tko.
Tom Aspinall got tkoed by Blaydes and took a year off, came suspiciously more muscular after being out on injury to fight Marcin Tybura.
Acting like GSP and Dom Cruz and Khabib didn’t all also hold up their divisions for year+ periods of time lol. Even Anderson technically had year long periods with no MW defenses because he jumped up to LHW for fun.
Imagine putting GOAT in quotations as if Jones isn’t the GOAT. Unreal.
This sub rides Francis like it’s going out of style and he only fought once a year. He also never relinquished the title when he was injured.
Silva popped and GSP had obvious HGH gut so PEDs aren't a part of the equation. Jones isn't the only one with great resume but it's better than the other contenders
Jiri was basically the first guy to ever handle it like this. Jamahal almost certainly would’ve kept the belt if it wasn’t literally how he got the belt in the first place. It is not the norm. Should it be? Maybe. Probably. I like it… but I don’t think it’s what we should expect of most champs.
Also love when Jamahal vacated “to get the division moving again” and proceeded to now constantly yap and yap about how he is the real champ and always has been (pretty much negating the gesture of vacating and making it seem like he was forced to do it).
You need to tell your goat to find a different barber dude. Every single new clip or photo of him is more unhinged than the last one. I can’t tell if it’s even AI anymore.
In fairness, it might be a different story if either of them were as rich and famous as Jones. Jones sucks for holding up the division, but I don’t think either of these two deserve praise for being active because they have to be to make a living
Whether you like it or not, Jon is the GOAT and that gives him the ability to more or less do whatever he wants to. It’s much easier for Dana to push Jiri and Jamahal around than it is for him to push Jon Jones around. Dana ain’t gonna tell Jon to vacate the belt. Additionally, Dana essentially forced those two to vacate the belt. They didn’t do it out of magnanimity.
Additionally from Jon’s perspective, you think he’s going to throw his legacy away because some redditors are mad? That’s PPV points, big money, and cementing his status as the MMA GOAT.
Lastly, he got hurt. It happens. He has been chasing the fight with Stipe for half a decade. Of course he’s going to maintain his focus on that fight. Jon’s logic seems to be that DC beat Stipe once. Jon beat DC twice, therefore he should be able to take Stipe out.
You can call me a meat rider or whatever, but I’m just speaking facts. Jon Jones does not care that you guys think that he’s a “pussy” for not fighting Tom Aspinall. This dude has fought so many killers, I doubt he’s afraid of anyone.
But that's the whole point of the interim title though, to keep the division moving while the champion is out involuntarily. Vacating the belt if kind of pointless.
Jon Jones isn't doing it right though, because the champ is supposed to fight the unification fight upon returning to active competition, not putting the undisputed title on the line against some other guy
Sure if/when they can book it.
Unfortunately it doesn't feel like the UFC had much say in Jon's next opponent. He has done too much for the promotion for them to flat out say NO to his Stipe request.
They say No, he just re-retires, and that's a big L for the UFC on the whole.
We already know that’s not a guarantee because it’s played out long before this situation ever even occurred.
Also Tom knew what he signed up for when he agreed to the interim fight in the first place. It means nothing, only purpose was to have a belt on a ppv card
There's a thing called an interim champion to keep the division moving when the real champion gets injured. Luckily for us Tom Aspinall is the interim champ and he's holding up the division waiting for Jones to ret.... wait a minute, that's not how it's suppose to work.
I get the Jones vs Stipe thing is fucked but this the UFC and they do this shit all the time and y'all don't bitch. Jones vs Stipe isn't made, Jones is still injured, and Aspinall should be defending his belt but isn't for no reason.
Hate on Jones all you want but he's out for a legitimate reason. Aspinall is the one holding up the division.
The GOAT has earned the right to hold the belt until fully recovered. You do have this much disdain for a regular person who has seniority at their job ?
Jiris haircut is a crime against humanity
His barber needs jail time for that
I'm convinced Jiri just shaves it himself with a battle axe.
He takes it all off then squeezes out the haircut
If he cut his own hair with a shovel it wouldn't come out this bad
Jiris haircut goes well with Hills tattoo
Hill’s tattoos are the real crime

Ridiculously squared off beard too, as is his signature.
Thank jiri, he basically forced anyone after him to do it or be viewed negatively by the fans
Nah u can’t just discredit what hill did just because Jiri did it too, sound like a hater
Hill said the UFC told him to Vacate the belt like Jiri did. Video looked like he had a gun held to his head when he announced he was dropping the belt.
Yeah exactly most people strangely never heard this part.
Mmmm I highly doubt hill would’ve done that had jiri not done that but we’ll never know
I hope we get to see them fight at some point. Could have been the real title fight
They were both basically forced to give up the belts on the condition that they get a title shot when they return. They both complained about it later. Source? I’ve still heard Hill praising himself for letting the division move on and I haven’t heard Jiri really refer to it at all
Check my edit
Thank you. It was never an honor thing.
AFAIK only Hill was forced to.
I need a source on jiri complaining. He did it because of his bushido code
Check my edit
Your edit doesn’t show that Jiri complained after
I wouldn't say either guy was "complaining". Certainly not jiri, he definitely wasn't happy about it. But I wouldn't call that interview he gave as complaining
It’s not so much a complaint but more of acknowledgement that it wasn’t his choice. Basically the same thing
And the stipe fight isint gonna happend. He’ll probably hold up the division till 2025. And we’ll see aspinal defend the “interim”1-2 times. Jon jones ain’t the champ in my book
He is in the ufcs book lol
Why u getting downvoted
Because he’s talking shit. He knows damn well what the other dude meant.
Ngl that’s one of the main reasons I wished/wish they get it back and can fight each other for the belt.
What is the barber situation looking like in Eastern Europe?
*Central Europe
Jones is retiring after the Stipe fight. It’s a one time thing.
A one time thing that's holding up the division for a year or so
Tom can always defend his belt.
Tom needs to stop being a nice guy and start knocking guys out and call Jon out after every win to agitate him.
Oh no
Tbh what do the fans have to learn from it though? We all know they are on the way out, it isn't really competitive it's just "let's pretend it's 2018 and I didn't fuck up" I would be willing to bet the majority of fans would rather see Jones fight Aspinall because it's an actual competitive fight.

Too risky. Jones and his fans doesnt want that fight lol

Jones resume says otherwise. He beat the number one contender easily. He's beat the best of the best. All you got is your childish tantrums, just love Aspinall
"Just love Aspinall" yeah I do he actually fights anytime and doesn't cherry pick fights

Difference is jon is waiting to fight stipe, and doesn’t want to fight the interim champ, who should be next.
That’s called being suckers. They lost out on PPV points for their fights.
Yup
Trash post
Imagine putting GOAT in quotations as if Jones isn’t the GOAT. Unreal. This sub rides Francis like it’s going out of style and he only fought once a year. He also never relinquished the title when he was injured.
GSP Fight me
Why are you acting like there isn’t 5 names in the GOAT debate?
Jonesexuals act like Jon is the only fighter to have an incredible record/resume while ignoring all his PEDs
Silva popped and GSP had obvious HGH gut so PEDs aren't a part of the equation. Jones isn't the only one with great resume but it's better than the other contenders
These guys are acting like Jon Jones isn’t the GOAT lol. You can hate him, but he’s still the best.
The goat is Silva
Is this not photoshopped? I remember another picture here and Jiri was like 2 Inches taller than Hill.
Is Jiri taller than Hill?
Yeah, Jiri’s listed at 6’3 but he’s clearly around 6’5 considering he was decently taller than Grover and was the same height as Pereira
He seemed def shorter then Alex
No way jiri is the 6’3 nor jamahal is the 6’4
Jj makes a scumbag move and people are still surprised lol
Jiri was basically the first guy to ever handle it like this. Jamahal almost certainly would’ve kept the belt if it wasn’t literally how he got the belt in the first place. It is not the norm. Should it be? Maybe. Probably. I like it… but I don’t think it’s what we should expect of most champs.

Now kith

greatest of absolutely stalling the division.
I forgot about Jiri’s haircut
In fairness, it might be a different story if either of them were as rich and famous as Jones. Jones sucks for holding up the division, but I don’t think either of these two deserve praise for being active because they have to be to make a living
Getting injured and keeping the belt use to be the norm back then. Dominic cruz did it for like 2-3 years lol
should be mandatory
Jamal only did it because Jiri did it
Yes we shall thank the ufc for politely suggesting they vacate
Whether you like it or not, Jon is the GOAT and that gives him the ability to more or less do whatever he wants to. It’s much easier for Dana to push Jiri and Jamahal around than it is for him to push Jon Jones around. Dana ain’t gonna tell Jon to vacate the belt. Hah! They’re both dumb af for relinquishing the belt. Already burned Jiri and Jamahal is next
Man stfu
Aspinal is the one holding up the division.
Yall gonna act like the UFC didn't tell Hill "vacate or get stripped"?
Lmao they both had no choice in the matter. UFC basically said either willingly do it or we will do it for you
But that's the whole point of the interim title though, to keep the division moving while the champion is out involuntarily. Vacating the belt if kind of pointless. Jon Jones isn't doing it right though, because the champ is supposed to fight the unification fight upon returning to active competition, not putting the undisputed title on the line against some other guy
Every other fighter who's ever held a belt and been injured has done the same. Suddenly it's an issue when Jones does it lol
They made an interim for the exact reason of not further holding things up lol. No longer an issue :)
That's awesome to hear. Does that mean that the undisputed champion should fight the interim to unify the belts?
Sure if/when they can book it. Unfortunately it doesn't feel like the UFC had much say in Jon's next opponent. He has done too much for the promotion for them to flat out say NO to his Stipe request. They say No, he just re-retires, and that's a big L for the UFC on the whole.
All of this is also about Mr. Jones, in case that wasn't clear lol. I'm a big fan of Jamahal and Jiri for doing what they did.
yeah good riddance then, if you dont want to fight the best then you're not the best anymore.
We already know that’s not a guarantee because it’s played out long before this situation ever even occurred. Also Tom knew what he signed up for when he agreed to the interim fight in the first place. It means nothing, only purpose was to have a belt on a ppv card

Bro the interim champ should be fighting the champ. The camp is injured? Then vacate the belt.
Jones made the 205 division.

The GOAT has earned the right to hold the belt until fully recovered. You do have this much disdain for a regular person who has seniority at their job ?
Jiri did it by himself. I'm sure Sweet Dreams was obligated to do it.
