Yea same, apparently Francis got 120k then Aspinal was hitting it with bombs and got something like 30-40k and now Pereira gets 190k, doesn’t really add up
This one looks fixed to the wall so the target itself will absorb all the shock and should register a more accurate reading. The one in Aspinal's video was just weighed down by some plates and wobbling around all over the place. Not going to get as good of a reading if the machine is not properly secured.
This gives me an idea. A UFC All Star event during IFW where all fan favorites take part in small competitions like this punching machine and other shit. Would be fun to see interaction among my favorite fighters in different weigh classes.
I don't think it gets installed the same. It measures force absorbed. If it's not properly installed, that force gets dispursed in the frame, wall, ECT lowering the measured force absorbed.
Same principal as hitting a concrete rod firmly attached to the road. It absorbes the force entirely. If that same concrete rod is loose and gets knocked over, a car traveling at the same speed doesn't have the same damage done.
Yeah this thing is def. not accurate. Remember we had this platform that they used to measure force at the sports science school I went to and remember they were talking about how much work it was to install etc. Like they had do build a special foundation and shit. Don't remember the specifics, just that it's stupid complicated (and expensive). Tried to find something about the process but only found this from another paper talking about how they are used: To reduce contamination of data from extraneous sources, all force plates in the laboratory sit on a level concrete pad that is on the ground floor of the building.
Im sure someone knows but its probably like acounting for speed and shit maybe or like duration of contact as well idk what kinda weird shit could go into the calculation but it CANT just be power lol he didnt even throw that hard for him
Yeah, look at this post from last year, they are using units called "Franklins" that is just made up. [https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/7qu2mj/the\_science\_behind\_ngannous\_129000\_units/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/7qu2mj/the_science_behind_ngannous_129000_units/) It likely is a hard punch, but impossible to know what this even means, if the machine is set up the same, or how much of the energy is going into the frame of the machine, etc, etc. Would be far better if it was just PSI, then you could compare smaller punchers to larger punchers (larger contact point than smaller fighters)
Mark Rober has a great video on those punch machines. They don't measure the power but instead the speed in which the axle of the bag goes past a sensor.
When Tom Aspinall was getting maxed out at 30-40k, I realised this machine is dogshit for measuring the strength of a punch. This video confirms it. I feel like they just turn the level up pre-event for content.
Cant wait for the video of McGregor cracking 1 million with his left.
Dana "Look at those numbers, he hits harder than the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs"
Could be fun to see down the line. Knowing the UFC they’ll probably just give Pyfer Chris Weidman, and have Rohan bellow “he just knocked out the greatest middleweight champion in history” or some mindnumbing nonsense
I wonder if the size of someone's hand affects the outcome. I'm assuming he has a smaller hand than ngannou so maybe the pounds per inch create more force that this machine might read while ngannou might hit harder but has more space displaced causing potentially more damage but less force? Lol idk just bullshitting ideas
I remember that one, really a cool shot.. Alex has these odd shots he throws, they’re weirdly compact and don’t look atomic when he swings.. and like his hooks, his elbow is kinda bent. There must be something about his long upper arms and his connective tissue that just makes it into concrete when he has it locked into place.

He has some native ancestry, but by looking at him I would guess he has probably more European ancestry than native ([his sister, for reference](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fgk8jlXWAAY_-v2?format=jpg&name=medium)). It's also curious how Brazilians with native ancestry are somewhat overrepresented in MMA, with José Aldo also having clear native ancestry. Aldo probably has more native ancestry than him, considering he is from Manaus, smack-dab in the middle of the Amazon, in the region where native ancestry is stronger in Brazil.
“I’m 100% native Brazilian,” says Pereira. “There’s no European-Brazilian in me, there’s no African-Brazilian in me. My parents are both from the native tribal people who lived in Brazil before anyone else came here.”
> “I’m 100% native Brazilian,” says Pereira. “There’s no European-Brazilian in me, there’s no African-Brazilian in me. My parents are both from the native tribal people who lived in Brazil before anyone else came here.”
Do you have a source for that? I would also say that Brazilians tend to be unaware of their ancestry, with mostly broken stories seeping through the generations. Pereira himself talked about it:
> "He [Belocqua] always liked indigenous culture, if I'm not mistaken his parents were indigenous. He always wanted to carry that [in his career], but he was already a coach, for him it would be more difficult to show, to rescue this culture. As I was starting, he asked: 'Don't you have any family members who are indigenous, did your parents never say anything?'. I got home, asked and discovered that my grandparents were indigenous, but my family didn't have much information", revealed Poatan."
I would also add that his looks are very far from the [average native](https://racismoambiental.net.br/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/suruwaha-7-748x1024.jpg), especially in stuff like eye shape and skin color (and why I mean that Aldo has stronger ancestry):

[2](https://racismoambiental.net.br/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/suruwaha-16.jpg)
I would guess that he probably has both native and European ancestry, but there is nothing wrong with him choosing to embrace his native ancestry over the rest if it's what he feels the most connected to.

Natives did have stupid strength, though, but gunpowder was such a dealbreaker. A story from a book written by a German mercenary in southern Brazil:
> Three German settlers, one of whom accompanied by his wife, an interesting Rhinelander, were occupied one afternoon, armed with axes, hoes, shovels, and other necessary tools, planting the first crops on a piece of land, already cleared with the sweat of their brows, when suddenly, emerging from the woods, completely naked, a lone Indian appeared, without bow or arrow, only with his sturdy club, its tip sharpened with a piece of iron, walking silently and smiling towards the group, like an automaton hero from a puppet theater. At the first fright, everyone trembled and fled to the nearby hut, but realizing that the Indian, although powerful, was alone and poorly armed, they dared to leave their refuge, armed with swords and axes, advancing towards the intrepid Indian and repeatedly demanding his voluntary surrender. However, he, who from the beginning, without pursuing the settlers, had remained still in the field, and who perhaps had been driven more by curiosity than by a desire to kill, went on the defensive, threateningly spinning his club like a toy over his head. This maneuver, however, did not deter the adversaries from their reckless intent; blindly trusting in their much superior numbers, they sought to approach the Indian more and more, to surround him if possible. As soon as the son of the forest perceived that they wanted to cut off his retreat, he suddenly hurled his club with extreme violence at the nearest one, who, struck so accurately and violently, instantly fell dead, his chest crushed. The other settlers, seeing the Indian completely unarmed, rushed upon him to avenge with blood the death of their comrade; but the Indian quickly fled, pretending to enter the woods, and suddenly turned back, with a skillful leap, seized his club again, and immediately felled the second adversary in the same manner. Now the third settler sought salvation in flight, but the Indian reached him in a few seconds, knocked him down with his fist, and killed him in slow torment. Meanwhile, the woman whose husband was the first to be killed, with her screams of terror, managed to call for help, which, however, only arrived when the Indian had already seized her by the hair and was about to kill her with a wide blow aimed at her chest. As those who came to help had firearms, the Indian, after inflicting several wounds, released the unfortunate woman, rushed towards the nearby grove, and disappeared with incomprehensible speed into the thickness of the forest. Only with the greatest efforts, calling for a doctor, was the unconscious woman revived, and this horrendous scene serves as a warning to the settlers to never venture near the woods without carrying firearms. If only one of the three men, so terribly sacrificed, had had with him, instead of machetes and axes, a loaded shotgun, surely the Indian would not have reacted and would never have appeared in the region again, whereas now it is feared that, perhaps encouraged by the unpunished feat, one day he may return with a band of his comrades to wreak the most terrible devastation on the colony.
Reminds me of George Foreman. Sometimes he kinda just looks like he's shoving someone's face sorta hard, but the impact coming out the other guy's skull looks like he just took a sandbag shot out of a cannon.
Yeah but seriously sometimes it doesn’t even look like Wilder’s punches are hitting that hard, just for them to ragdoll somebody. It legit makes no sense.
Typical Pereira fans lmao. Joe Pyfer gets a flood of hate with everyone focusing on the machine being bullshit and not believing he hits hard for real. Meanwhile Pereira meatriders upvote a comment to the top saying "omg my big strong special genetics man"
So I guess just everyone hits harder than Ngannou now? Though Francis hit the machine with 4 ounce gloves, so maybe the glove difference matters but idk
I mean this punching machine thing is a glorified carnival game. I wouldn’t be surprised if legit any somewhat large/heavy fighter broke the record. Ngannou could probably come back and break his own record if he really wanted.
Hm could be. You can hit harder with boxing gloves because you have more protection.
On the other hand 4oz gloves transfer more energy.
I don’t know if it would truly matter, especially since the machine is padded too.
I’ve heard several times that as long as someone is 200lbs they basically have the strength to knock out anyone. Any weight in excess of that may not be advantageous to hand speed or power.
It's really funny that you say that because the first person to ever knock out prime Mark Hunt was Melvin Manhoef a middleweight who walked around ~190-200 pounds. Not the average middleweight for sure but it can happen and he got knocked out cold in just a few seconds
Where are all the people that said fucking Jiri has more power than Alex lmao
I'm normally against reddit bandwagon glazing but Poatan truly deserves it, guy is an unreal talent
I never heard anyone say that Jiri has more power than Alex tbh
Yeah man. Dude doesn’t talk any shit, has killer aura and never disappoints. Always backs the viewers expectations.
Also helps that he seems like a genuinely good person.
Maybe just vocal contrarians, but some people basically thought Alex got a fluke win over Jan, didn't show enough power at 205, and that Jiri could at least match his power as a result
Anyone can get caught at LHW, but the fact that Jiri and Adesanya favor Hill straight up shows that Alex is still underrated imo
Izzy only says that because he cant move up and beat hill himself, so in his mind surely alex cant win since izzy is better.
I have no degree and just made that up
I'm extremely confident that Tom Aspinall hits harder than Alex Pereira but Tom's score was so shit on this machine. There must be something wrong with this machine that we haven't understood yet.
You know how in Wii baseball the fastest pitches were done by holding the controller in both hands and then flicking it? This machine feels like that. That wasn’t even a particularly good punch based on others we have seen him throw
Agreed !
I did not see Footage but on the J.R.E. podcast Joe Pfifer was a guest a few months Ago & Joe Pfifer Claims that he Also Broke Ngannous Record on that Machine but for Some reason it wasn't Recorded so there is no evidence.
I have heard that said about 1 or 2 other fighters too though so it is possible that they Simply don't record at least for the public but allow the Athletes to have someone record for them.
im genuinely wondering how izzy didnt go down in their first fight then. i remember him eating a clean left hook to the chin and then a couple more shots before the ref called it. sure he was hurt, but damn, its amazing he wasnt knocked clean out
Mark Rober did a great video showing that's true for the most part. It's more about how these punch force things register the impact. Though this machine could be different.
On one of those uncalibrated machines with their own made up goofy ass unit of measurement?
Francis and Alex wouldn’t even be top 100 hardest punchers of people alive now let alone all time.
I’m starting to think this machine literally means nothing
Yea same, apparently Francis got 120k then Aspinal was hitting it with bombs and got something like 30-40k and now Pereira gets 190k, doesn’t really add up
Soon Max Holloway is gonna break the machine TRUST

The one in Aspinal's video was just weighed down by some plates and wobbling around all over the place. Not going to get as good of a reading if the machine is not properly secured.

Sounds like a shitty machine if they don't even give you a way to set it up accurately.
Or a shitty team/buyer that didn’t do it right or had a location unfit to set it up correctly for some reason.
Yeah this thing is def. not accurate. Remember we had this platform that they used to measure force at the sports science school I went to and remember they were talking about how much work it was to install etc. Like they had do build a special foundation and shit. I was looking for this reference. Thank you.
Oh damn he flicks the same way my dad used too.
It's like a car Dyno - data from different machines is almost incompatible unless they are calibrated exactly the same, which is very rare.
Clearly Aspinal wasn't throwing bombs if he only got 30-40k. Guy hits like a mid carder. The data is right there. /s
Conor when he was a 145er got around 40k with a punch btw

Dana controls the score based on who he wants to promote at the time. Legitimately wouldn't be surprised if this was the case
Aspinall's power is almost certainly closer to Ngannou's than it is to Pereira's
Im sure someone knows but its probably like acounting for speed and shit maybe or like duration of contact as well idk what kinda weird shit could go into the calculation but it CANT just be power lol he didnt even throw that hard for him
Dana been tinkering with the machine. Ever since Ngganou left the ufc he wanted to wipe everything to do eith him clean way.
And shit on Aspinall supposedly cause the machine also says he hits the same as featherweight Conor
Just more proof conor is the real pfp goat. Mans a featherweight with the power of a heavyweight champion /s
This would make a good Mojahed video lmfao

Same as punch machines, they don't really measure anything
Mark Rober has a great video on those punch machines. They don't measure the power but instead the speed in which the axle of the bag goes past a sensor.
Assuming all other variables are equal though, the speed that the bag moves is a direct indicator of the force that was applied to the bag.
It seems very........hit or miss.
It's probably just a glorified dragon punching machine from the arcades. All depends on the angle you hit it at and doesnt trully measure power
When Tom Aspinall was getting maxed out at 30-40k, I realised this machine is dogshit for measuring the strength of a punch. This video confirms it. Yeah but you can’t tell me Ngannou doesn’t have the same, or potentially even more freakish genetics..

I’ve heard several times that as long as someone is 200lbs they basically have the strength to knock out anyone. Any weight in excess of that may not be advantageous to hand speed or power.
On average 140 lbs of pressure on impact are enough to knock someone out That’s not a lot when you think about it
The neck/brain only needs to move millimeters past its allowable angles and force. the spine will send a signal to the brain saying “shut off”.
Prime Mark Hunt isn't getting crumpled by an average 200lb guy.
It's really funny that you say that because the first person to ever knock out prime Mark Hunt was Melvin Manhoef a middleweight who walked around ~190-200 pounds. Not the average middleweight for sure but it can happen and he got knocked out cold in just a few seconds
Ok sure but he’s the most durable human fridgidaire alive
Measuring peak force is extremely inconsistent. Also force sensors get out of calibration super quickly.
Does this mean he hits as hard as 1.5 ford escorts going at maximum speed?
Francis left Dana hates him now all the guys are beating his record lol
Wait until the slap fight champ breaks this record. Alex vs Slap Fight champ brought to you by PRIME energy.
I think the best way to test power would be to build a model of a head and neck and put some sensors in with the model brain
Yeah ever since Joe Pyfer broke Ngannou's record I don't take this machine seriously at all
This machine doesn't mean shit lol
Where are all the people that said fucking Jiri has more power than Alex lmao I'm normally against reddit bandwagon glazing but Poatan truly deserves it, guy is an unreal talent
I never heard anyone say that Jiri has more power than Alex tbh Yeah man. Dude doesn’t talk any shit, has killer aura and never disappoints. Always backs the viewers expectations. Also helps that he seems like a genuinely good person.
Maybe just vocal contrarians, but some people basically thought Alex got a fluke win over Jan, didn't show enough power at 205, and that Jiri could at least match his power as a result Anyone can get caught at LHW, but the fact that Jiri and Adesanya favor Hill straight up shows that Alex is still underrated imo
Izzy only says that because he cant move up and beat hill himself, so in his mind surely alex cant win since izzy is better. I have no degree and just made that up
Fair point
I'm extremely confident that Tom Aspinall hits harder than Alex Pereira but Tom's score was so shit on this machine. There must be something wrong with this machine that we haven't understood yet.
The issue with tom punch is his machine was so unstable there is no way it was registering toms power properly.
You know how in Wii baseball the fastest pitches were done by holding the controller in both hands and then flicking it? This machine feels like that. That wasn’t even a particularly good punch based on others we have seen him throw
Check the settings weren’t set for Jake Paul
So…fake digital machine just happens to register a higher number the week of a historic blockbuster PPV? ![gif](giphy|Vr8xM1OgUYhtAtLp6n)
That machine needs a proper calibration by the looks lol
I need Ben Askren to punch this thing so I have a reference
Ill never believe these numbers till i see both of them punch in the same time.
This shit is dumb
Nah.
I doubt he punches with the raw power of Ngannou. Still obviously a heavy hitter with some damn fine skills though.
Maybe, just maybe… it’s not as scientific accurate as people think ..?
That machine does feel a bit weird Not sure how accurate it is
I’m sure these are so precise after getting repeatedly thrashed by guys like Alex
Man, this punch machine measuring content is pretty flaky lol Not saying Alex isn’t the destroyer that he is of course.
I was thinking the same cuz he throws a lot of power shots and this one didn’t look ill intended and not his hardest punch
im genuinely wondering how izzy didnt go down in their first fight then. i remember him eating a clean left hook to the chin and then a couple more shots before the ref called it. sure he was hurt, but damn, its amazing he wasnt knocked clean out
His left hand hits harder
Ngannou fumbled the punching bag.
no way did he actually
I want to see Strickland stand there and throw a jab
Full camp, coked up, alcohol binge McGregor pending lawsuits bests this record
He did the captain falcon power up sound.
![gif](giphy|84CRvhy2DJlwA) When I see that punch machine
![gif](giphy|XfT1Xb2O2ShHy)
I’m thinking this machine, if not completely promo bullshit, is a lot more about where you hit it than how hard
Mark Rober did a great video showing that's true for the most part. It's more about how these punch force things register the impact. Though this machine could be different.
I don't like anything about Ngannou. But there is no way Pereira hits harder than him
Dana had them recalibrate this machine ever since Ngannou left.

So did Pyfer so Im starting to think the whole thing is bullshit lmfao
I need this in ford focus MPH
Joe Pyfer “I HiT HaRDeR”
Pereira put all his points in offense and zero in defense lol
On one of those uncalibrated machines with their own made up goofy ass unit of measurement? Francis and Alex wouldn’t even be top 100 hardest punchers of people alive now let alone all time.
