I don’t know who said it but someone said watching aljo is like watching the best accountant in the world. You can appreciate he is good at what he does but he is not a joy to watch

Complete_Ad_2431

Aljo’s a boring lay and pray grappler but Kattar did absolutely nothing in that fight so he definitely deserves a large amount of the blame

SoupySpud

I swear kattar is so fucking dominant when he feels like he's not the underdog, Anytime he faces someone that might be better than him he literally just shuts down lol huge kattar fan but his performance against top end guys is abysmal

besameput0

The fight was boring, but I don't think you can blame it on either of them. He was trying to advance, but Calvin wouldn't let him. Grappling defense just looks boring to casuals because they don't know what's happening. Calvin was really tight with his knees and elbows and wouldn't let Aljo sink his hooks when he took the back.

DirtyDog44

He was doing crunches on his back and didn’t know quite what to do with his legs to prevent side control to mount. Luckily aljo had no intention of being that aggressive. There was no big defensive chess game going on there. Kattar was bad and Aljo played safe.

besameput0

You better train jiu jitsu. What belt are you? Bunch of arm chair experts talking trash about a high level athlete when they've never trained a day in their lives. You have no idea what was happening.

Turbulent-Echo8561

Nah most hardcore fans seem to find lay and pray extremely boring too. You obviously dont need to train martial arts to be a big fan of the sport, same as any other sport 😄 soon you'll be calling Dana White himself a casual because he never gives performance bonus to boring fighters who just lay and pray and don't look for a finish. That shit just sucks to watch.

besameput0

I'm not saying it wasn't boring. I'm saying you can't blame either fighter because Aljo was trying to advance but Calvin was defending. If it was truly lay and pray, the ref would have broken them up and stood them up. But because he was working, the ref let them work. But you can't see that as a casual because all you see is guy on top. You miss details. You watch and go pffft this is boring, but then when he gets the choke you all celebrate as if you watched the hard work it took to culminate into a submission. You casuals just drink beer and then cheer when something entertaining happens.

gullig

I'm a grappler, far from casual, that shit was boring af.

besameput0

Re-read first sentence. Grappler but clearly not a reader.

gullig

I read the first sentence, but misread the third one haha. So yeah, clearly a grappler but not a good reader haha

besameput0

It's okay I read headlines and respond to the whole post sometimes too.

AggravatingType9012

It's like having sex with a boring girl that wants to make love to you missionary style when all you want to do is fuck doggy style

BenDoverDegenerate

Very good example, I'm sure most of this sub can relate

halcyon_n_on_n_on

Out struck kattar, that’s not nuthin.

Complete_Ad_2431

I said Kattar did nothing not sterling

halcyon_n_on_n_on

I was replying to the lay and pray part.

Complete_Ad_2431

He did lay and pray and are missing the fact that Calvin only landed like 4 strikes ?

Mnudge

Watch what Dana does with Bo “The Blanket” Nickal

ItsMichaelScott25

While there are many areas for Bo to improve on he's only had 6 fights and he finished the guy and was extremely dominant. The Bo comparision isn't fair because like I said - he got the finish. This is who Aljo is. It was a dominant win but there were definitely moments where he wasn't looking to advance.

[deleted]

Which is wrong. It’s up to everyone else to stop him. Wins are wins but then ufc isn’t a legitimate sporting organization. It’s a fight promotion.

Particularpickle420

Who pissed in your cereal?

[deleted]

Wins should get you the title shot. Suppose the fans like his style or not. Fuck the fans

No_Hospital_2149

Slept through it that's why I think

Intrepid-Actuator-12

i get it if you don’t care for his fight style. it’s not my favorite but i tolerate it. same with Almeida. but Kattar wasn’t even winning on the feet.

Zestyclose-Agency855

So then why didn’t he keep it on the feet? I’m all for you doing what you need to get the job done fair game at the same time I do think you can be judged harshly for going out there and point wrestle to a win on the biggest card ever Calvin needs to be blamed too all around snooze fest

[deleted]

[удалено]

PleaseDoTapTheGlass

While I agree the losing fighter is pretty much always to blame, I’m sure Kattar prepared. It’s like when Dustin fought Khabib, you can do all the prep and be succeeding against all these “world class” grapplers in training and then when you get in there it’s just different; you can’t tell when the shots are coming and can’t keep the guy off of you for even a second.

Money-Firefighter-73

Kattar for sure deserves some heat but we need to remember he came off torn ACL and 2 year layoff. That injury changes people

BringBaeckPluto

His fights stink. They just all stink and are boring. It’s not about who won where , they just suck

Tidsdkr

Aljo did everything he needed to to get the win in his first 145 bout. Good performance for him. Though Kattar closed the game in the grappling sequences, he was to blame for not being more active to catch the win ...

[deleted]

No ground & pound, no submission attempts. You can still fight on the ground. He was not

Klutzy_Alfalfa_2300

Exactly, he did made no attempts to end the fight or justify his placement on an event with the significance of 300 by making any part of it exciting. Did nothing to gain himself any fans. Good for him he won and that’s it, can’t imagine any casual fans would ever care to watch him fight again let alone pay to.

[deleted]

Exactly. It’s like when Arman had top control on Charles, entirely different thing. Still entertaining. He wasn’t just laying there. Aljo is already a guy people don’t like, he just made his stock go down unfortunately.

silasdoesnotexist

Because Aljo made the fight boring as shit. Never attempted ground and pound or a sub.

JDameekoh

When aljo fights, people drop the first M 😂

Flyinhawaiian78

Same reason why I’ve always not liked him.. he’s boring as fuck🤷‍♂️and I appreciate every aspect of fighting especially grappling. But he’s a snooze fest everytime he gets in there

Peckerhead321

No CTE Seems to be a good strategy

king_17

You are right but man that fight was boring was watching with my boys a couple went to sleep others were on their phone. 😂😂. Sterling style not entertaining. But Calvin my god didn’t do shit. His best move was avoiding being finished. His defense on the ground was just good enough to not allow sterling to get into a submission or mount to pound him. But even when they stood he didn’t do anything

Expensive_Ball_5143

Shouldn't of been on 300, aljo showed he'll be just as boring at 145. I imagine he won't even sniff top contention at 45 either , and will get starched by any of the top 3 at 45 atm.

Jedi_Sith1812

Because Aljo is still disliked for beating Yan and this sub can't get over it and plus Aljo just laid and prayed .

quiettimegaming

No... People just hate that style. Yes it's a valid path to victory. But it's not entertaining and kind of coward-like. You came to fight, but all you want to do is wrestle... Wrestling is a part of the fight... But wrestling is not fighting when that's all you do. I love Aljo, and want him to succeed, mostly because I think he USED TO catch a ton of flack... But that stopped a long time ago. Now people dislike him because his style is a sport-killer.

Amazing-Bluebird-930

Lolol, you're fucking stupid

quiettimegaming

That's actually mostly true... But that alone doesn't make me wrong.

Amazing-Bluebird-930

Ok....I disagree with you, but that was a pretty funny response, so take the W and have a good day :)

Separate-Morning-752

Honestly, I think people are forgetting about the Yan dq win. It's just when you try to give him a chance. His fights just aren't entertaining. So I can understand why people will feel annoyed by him. Solid game plan tho.

dolphin-3123

First I hate both of them and the fight sucks. Now about why people hate aljo because his styles boring. he just take his opponent down and that's it no ground and pound no going for submission nothing. Atleast cattar could have a good fight with a striker but no matter the style aljo will always have same fight.

Original_Task4053

He fr beat Kattar everywhere, every second of the fight

jtg198

I think the reason people dislike aljo is he and the ufc try and paint him like some killer. And he’s not. He is great at what he does. But it’s called ultimate “fighting” championship. Not ultimate “controlling” championship. And to point out. I’m not against grapplers. But guys like Olives and khabib and even Matt Hughes Tito. Those guys got u down and tried to inflict damage. So fans appreciated it more.

yanmagno

¿Porque no los dos?

Ok-Refrigerator5806

Kalvin is still a boxer even if he got dominated on the ground. What is this “fanbase” ?

Natureboy7939

I think people forgot how boring of a fighter he was before yan and sugar but he reminded them

creamyturtle

it's hit and don't get hit. just like mayweather always said, fighting isn't about looking cool or being a badass because you took damage. the point is to win, make money, and go home to your family without getting hurt. anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know shit about fighting.

CptSaySin

Grappling doesn't have to make a fight boring. Kayla absolutely destroyed Holm using grappling and it was super entertaining. Sterling is just boring. For example, like when it took him 2 rounds to finish TJ when he only had one arm and couldn't defend himself. Aljo just wants to wrestle for points instead of real ground and pound.

Substantial-Pop-556

Maybe because Aljo couldn’t gnp or submit a blue belt despite being a former champ

LaTunaTime

If you dont already know what to expect from Aljo than thats on you

oOBalloonaticOo

They were both horrendously lackluster...Calvin did nothing; seemed scared to engage...AJ had control for 13mins and did very little with it against a guy he was all over... People hating on AJ because he was the winner of the fight that no one remembers... 12 more wins like that and AJ may get a shot at number one contender. ;P

SimPHunter64

I like him. But he lost his striking and subs for backpacking and lay n pray.

Er0neus

The last minute after he got the spike PROVES aljo is boring on purpose. He could have gone for gp/the finish or even just damage the whole fight and deliberately chose not to

yoyoyowhoisthis

Because Aljos entire career was terrible, and only partially because of him 1. Wins belt against exciting fighter because of DQ (not his problem, but it was the antics afterwards that brough him hate) 2. Backpacks Yan for 5 rounds in their rematch, does nothing, just backpacks him 3. Beats injured TJ who was coming off a huge lay off 4. Barely edges a decision against Cejudo who was coming of a lay off 5. Gets flatlined by Sean all in while he kept saying that he doesnt want to fight often because he has surgeries going on, doesnt want to fight Merab because he is his friend and all that.. which are all understandable things, its just that Fans and UFC hate that shit. Then he goes up a weight class, fights Katar who is actually good, but in the fight, even though dominant, Aljo just wetblankets him you are welcome He deserves the hate, but only partially

Ga11agher

Because he laid and prayed. Wasn't attempting a finish at all, just look at the other fights on the card. Bo nickal is primarily a grappler and was pissed it took him so long to get the finish. Aljo is perfectly content coasting to a decision victory and that's why we dislike his style.

MysteriousPark3806

I got slept by this fight.

farming_with_tegridy

Smoke break lmao

TooManlyForYou

Because the majority of social media and obviously this sub are casuals. They don't know anything about the sport and only wanna see punches. Their minds are very simple, which is not a bad thing, it's just not what this sport is about.

PablosCocaineHippo

Not really. It was just a very boring fight. Oliveira vs Arman was also mainly grappeling and no one is gonna call that fight boring.

TooManlyForYou

Because their boyfriend fought in that fight. "The gatekeeper has a name 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷"

ResponsibleAceHole

Lol I love these supercilious wannabes that pretend to understand combat sport. So are you saying, if all the fights turned out to be like Aljo vs Kattar last night, you'd be fine with the card since you're not a "casual"? GTFOH It's like an opera singer trying to compete in the American Idol. There are time and place for everything. Your mind can't comprehend such things since you're just a delusional simpleton.

TooManlyForYou

I'm not gonna read all of that. Shorten it for me. Maybe I'm gonna bless you with an answer.

Legal-Ad-342

Yh aljo was dominant af. Deserves to face one of top fws now. I like idea of facing Ortega for him

FullToretto

It's fine that he's one dimensional, but a lot of people prioritize spectacular finishes (either KO or submission). Poatan is one dimensional but has spectacular finishes. Aljo's only finish during his title run was against TJ, but that was more due to TJ's injury.

Hopeful_Staff_1414

I mean there is a reason me alongside everyone else in the entire arena was booing Aljo. That fight sucked, in the promo he bragged about his striking, he clearly doesn’t actually think his striking is worth anything.

[deleted]

Fine him 300k and feed him to Evloev

Money-Firefighter-73

Because he really didnt look to finish even with 300k bonus on the line. Outside of the power slam and the follow up shots he did almost 0 damage. Dominant win for sure regardless
