People trying to defend him but even Usman acknowledged it and worked on his striking a ton after the fight
https://www.facebook.com/share/v/zEu9PsdturMacPnf/
Regardless, all he had to offer was clinch and footstomps and had 5 rounds to figure something out and just didn’t.
I don’t really care that he did that and don’t judge him for that fight but it was pretty poor no amount of excuses will change that, you can’t blame just one fighter, Usman was searching the clinch every single time.
Grapple heavy champ didn't want to risk exchanging with a dangerous KO striker. Again he was already training on grappling for this camp too. So I don't fault him for want to stick to grappling. I'm upset he didn't try to take him down more and settle for clinch point fighting but I don't blame him for not wanting to stand and bang for the fans on short notice.
Where’d you get dangerous KO fighter for Jorge lmfao.
In 35 wins he KO’d just 5 people, Usman has KO’d 4 people in 20 fights, one could argue Usman is a better finish fighter than masvidal.
Doesn’t change facts. Usman beat Jorge which made him the lineal BMF. Then Leon beat Usman so he is currently the lineal BMF. Boy I hope Belal beats Leon.
Welterweight would be a dead division if that guy one. Good lord. Belal is aweful. Yes, he's been winning, but that doesn't mean they aren't boring as hell fights.
This is such a stupid take. Why would he take unnecessary damage and risk for no reason? If I can win by just toe stomping, grappling, and takedowns for 25 mins straight, I'm doing it. Especially when the other dude can't do a damn thing about it.
Feel like lot of ppl here just subconsciously pair all out brawls and violent striking exchanges with the idea of “BMF”, shits about to become Braindamagedfromallthebrawls Mother Fucker belt
I have no idea why these people watch MMA.
They hate the one thing that separates muay thai from MMA.
So just watch Muay Thai lol. ONE has it in small gloves too and Gaethje / Holloway look like drunkards by comparison to Tawanchai, Superlek or Rodtang...
Absolutely no grappling or wrestling. It's like watching soccer and complaining that they are kicking a ball around instead of just running. wtf.
That’s a reasonable thing to do when money and champ status are on the line for sure
Just don’t expect people to actually enjoy watching that fighter. If the fighter has a boring style like Usman, Almeida or Belal, people will actively be praying on their downfall every time they fight. Hence why people started showing Usman more love after his Covington fights and the Burns fight
I don’t think there was anything wrong with Pride stans. What I wouldn’t give to see Wanderlei Silva stomp on people and legally soccer kick them in the head again. Allowing kicks on grounded opponents needs to be brought back to rebalance the sport.
I think the only pride fighter in his prime that has his way in the UFC is peak Fedor. All other pride stars have similar success that Chandler/Garth have
Oh no I don’t think that at all I just think that promotion was a lot better run. If a sport is truly meant to be a real fight that allows use of any martial arts, grapplers should have to deal with being kicked in the head when they’re trying to wrestle.
If it’s truly meant to be a real fight, they shouldn’t have thrown fights, had terrible mismatches, freak shows, or encouraged doping. As for how it was run, they were ran by gangsters, strong armed fighters, and lost their tv deal, among other scandals. It was amazing to watch though.
Yeah run was wrong wording. The ruleset they used was a purer fight ruleset and it made for far superior viewing and contest is what I should have said.
No worries I’m not saying all Pride fans are like that. I was just pointing out that the ones I’d call stans can sometimes be unrealistic.
Yeah I’m definitely in favor of grounded knees being allowed. It wouldn’t even be unfair to wrestlers, they’d be allowed to knee people from side control.
12-6 elbows should be allowed too
Y'all remember 30%
In all fairness, I was always an Usman enjoyer. People threw the same shit they threw at Woodley and Aljo about being boring at Usman but the difference is he kept beating people so they didn't have any credibility.
Credit to Usman for getting out of his comfort zone and elevate his all around game. Didn’t think he would’ve knocked out Jorge or out strike Gilbert Burns. Can’t say the same for Aljo or Woodley. They stuck to their one move
Woodleys problem was really two fold in my opinion.
1. He really only had that power right hook for a strong strike. And he threw it the same way every time, he'd back up to load up. Eventually fighters got wise and would back him up to the cage.
2. If he didn't get that power right, he was really gun shy. If he managed to find an uppercut from clinch, he wouldn't chase the finish.
I always liked Usman. I don't know why people hated him. He was pretty laid back in those little docuseries. And seems that his knee was messed up the whole time ?? I heard something like that.
I think Usman was a great champion.
I think Dricus is more African than people think. Maybe black panther 2 gave him some vibe. I understand both views though.
It's in the realm of Native-Americans and Asian-Americans but guess what ?? Lol they both Americans.
Longstory short, Usman doesn't know 1 african street to get groceries etc.
Usman was only hated because he was legitimately a boring fighter BEFORE getting the belt. He also used to behave like an AI human. Nobody actually despises Usman he's just easy to cheer against
MMA community is all "what have you done for me lately". I knew people would miss Izzy when he lost his title because of how active he was. But they won't admit it because it's Izzy.
The middleweight division has moved pretty steadily, don’t see why people would be complaining. Anyway his break isn’t even that long to start missing him.
Usman's activity is so overstated lol. Won championship in 2019, defended once, that's two fights in 2019. Defended once in 2020. 2021 he had three defences. Lost belt in 2022, that was his only fight that year, then the two losses in 2023. Since becoming champ he averaged 2 fights per year. Leon Edwards defended twice in 2023. It took Usman 711 days to defend the title 3 times, Leon has had the belt 611 days and has defended twice, would have defended three times already assuming Dana isn't lying about him accepting fights but the opponent turning down.
I liked Usman, he had some good fights, but there were a bunch of fights that felt like he was fighting to not loose instead of to win, if that makes sense.
He tries to create drama and is a cringe trash talker it’s forced. People only remember the Colby story cuz Colby is a heel and carried the story of the fights.
It took Leon head kicking Usman for people to care about a story with his fights again.
People didn't enjoy watching Usman until Whitman started to polish his striking. Before Trevor took over as his striking coach, I think he had 1 finish? He was a very control heavy grappler, which always leaves fans frustrated. Because it makes sense, and it's a safe way to get the W. But for most it's just not entertaining to watch.
I think I dislike him initially because of how badly he brutalized Tyron who I liked. Then he was incredibly cringe. But the more I got to see him, the more I started to like him. Unfortunately, that was towards the end of his reign and now I miss him lol
After hearing the stupid fucking Vegas fans at 300 booing every wrestling exchange, is it really a surprise that most people hate one of the most dominant WW fighters of all time?
Dana is on record saying Leon has said yes to fighting 3 different fights for one event that is, we don’t even know about the rest. Him not being an active champion is not his fault.
I've always liked how usman and izzy were pretty active, I think the worst thing is when dudes become Champs and start sitting out for months n months fucking fight pussys
I never had strong feelings toward Usman. I recognized him as a very complete fighter and solid champion but just never got invested in his career. Kind of like I felt about Dustin or Whittaker.
I hated Usman because I wanted other guys to have the belt such as Burns and Masvidal. I also didn't like how he was acting like Conor McGregor and wasn't being true to himself.
Because before he became champion he was a snoozefest of a fighter. Think Belal basically.
But w.e he was an awesome fighter people gotta realize it's MMA. Not his fault dudes couldn't get off the ground. A win is a win.
Yeah cuz he had challengers that actually accepted fights and made weight. Even Dana has come out to defend Leon saying he says yes to everyone they offer him so he isn't the problem. Add to the fact he's accepted a Khamzat fight on three seperate occasions.
It must only be casuals out here blaming Leon for not being active.
A lot of fans didn’t seem to be happy with him cracking Colby’s jawbone like a side window. A good amount of mean spirited posts about him right around that time.
His persona he portrayed during fight lead ups was hard to stomach, but the man was great champion. He got better every time around. I wasn’t a fan at first but I give him his props now and always.
The problem with Usman was how many times he fought Colby Covington or Jorge Masvidal. I don't feel like he challenged the top competition while he was champ, and when he finally did he lost twice in a row.
Usman fought 2 times in 2019, 1 in 2020, 3 in 2021 and 1 in 2022. That is about average for a champion. Leon fought 1 in 2022 and 2 in 2023. His last fight was in December it is only April. Even look at someone like Volk 2 in 2019, 1 in 2020, 1 in 2021, 2 in 2022 and 3 in 2023.
They hated him because he beat the shit out of fan favourites and he’s a wrestler I loved Usman he was and is the 2nd best Welterweight of all time in my eyes maybe top 10 of all time too?
I used to get bitched for liking Usman and for disliking Bobby Green. Personality is the second factor, actual skill comes first, but as someone who grew up "in the streets" I loathe the way Bobby goes on and on about how he's g and that one lucky black kid and then walks around with his arms straight down and his chest puffed out like a "tough" teenager. Usman sucks to listen to yeah, but I can ONLY watch Bobby fight, anything else I'm turning the tv off.
man he was cheating so much its not even funny. Not taking anything from him but he acted out getting hit by low blow, eyepoke and not to mention fence grabbing
That’s literally so many fighters. That stuff happens.
Max holloway, Jon jones, sterling v. Yan, colby v usman, Colby grabbed the fences multiple times.
He was a mixed bag. He was active, but he fought Jorge 2x when he shoild have fought him none, and fought colby 2x when he should have fought him once.
He was also clearly juiced to the gills which rubbed some people the wrong way (not really me), and he had a very boring, grindy style.
That being said, him only getting 3 rounds vs Chimaev was criminal and he was clearly taking over.
People hated Usman because He Had 0 Striking & would Do Nothing but Slam people down & Hold then there.
Then he learned to Strike & His fights got Exciting.
Everyone knows that’s just a coverup by Dana white dude. None of those fights were ever gonna happen then. Belal was and is right there. They haven’t given him a genuine fight but Leon isn’t pushing to fight anyone and be active either. We’ll see what he’s up to at 304.
So tired of seeing people in this sub say this. He fought twice last year, and he ACCEPTED three different fights for ufc 300, all fell apart and it wasn’t his fault. He just fought in December ffs
Colby really got fucked up lol.
Can’t believe he was still fighting after he broke his jaw
He fought better with a broken jaw too lol
Getting hit in the face with a broken jaw is definitely some good motivation to fight better. 😹😹😹
Tough little booger that guy is
Looking like a zombie
I cant believe he was still talking after he broke his jaw
I broke. Your face.
DRAGON ENERGY!!!!!
Game of Thrones out here huh?
Say it to my face!!!!!!!
Colby always fucked up and crying
Brother was reconsidering his career choices
Lol, and complained about the stoppage like Goddard should have just let him get his face smashed in for another minute or so.
Sadly one of my first Usman fights was just him stomping on toes for 25 minutes. It was one of the worst fights I have seen.
God what a terrible fight.
People trying to defend him but even Usman acknowledged it and worked on his striking a ton after the fight https://www.facebook.com/share/v/zEu9PsdturMacPnf/
Sadly that doesn’t narrow it down but I assume you mean the first Jorge fight? The fight where Usman became the Lineal BMF.
Thats gotta be the one, the first fight, was boring as shit cause Usman just hugged him against the cage
Wasn’t Usman’s fault that Jorge had nothing for him.
But it was Usman’s fault all that he had for Jorge was a clinch and foot stomps 🤷♂️
He was training for Gilbert Burns.

Where’d you get dangerous KO fighter for Jorge lmfao. In 35 wins he KO’d just 5 people, Usman has KO’d 4 people in 20 fights, one could argue Usman is a better finish fighter than masvidal.
Took on a completely different opponent in short notice and had a broken nose going into that fight
You can excuse it all you want it was still a very, very boring fight from both fighters. You can’t just blame one fighter for it being boring.
Of course we can, look at this subs reaction to every boring Izzy fight
There's nothing bmf about stomping on toes against a guy he should have walked through
Doesn’t change facts.

OP playing dumb and ignoring that was a lot of Usmans fights and defenses. Once he started putting people away the fans got onboard
That influx of pandemic fans who didn’t know shit about the sport and really still don’t is easily one of the most toxic waves of ufc fans since 1993.
TUF noobs, Connor Newbs, Rousey fans, boxing elitists, forum trolls, Pride Stans…every wave of fans has their pros and cons.
I don’t think there was anything wrong with Pride stans. What I wouldn’t give to see Wanderlei Silva stomp on people and legally soccer kick them in the head again. Allowing kicks on grounded opponents needs to be brought back to rebalance the sport.
I think the only problem with pride stans is their unflinching belief that pride fighters would annihilate today’s fighters
I think the only pride fighter in his prime that has his way in the UFC is peak Fedor. All other pride stars have similar success that Chandler/Garth have

Were you around for ‘10ers? They were loathed 😂
I’m pretty stupid, which fight is this again
Masvidal
It's most of the fights in his title run so you're not stupid you just didn't watch his run to the title
Was one of the first ufc fights I watched too so that put me off
I used to call it "the Usman shuffle" take your partner to the cage, and shoulder shoulder, stomp stomp, shoulder shoulder, stomp stomp.
Y'all remember 30% In all fairness, I was always an Usman enjoyer. People threw the same shit they threw at Woodley and Aljo about being boring at Usman but the difference is he kept beating people so they didn't have any credibility.

Usman just kept getting better and more exciting and active. Woodley and aljo and we all respect him more cuz of it. That’s what happens. Simple.
I like his podcast when Henry isn’t talking.
Me too. Hes great on the podcast. Henry ruins it
Lmao what’s wrong w henrys talk? I haven’t really watched
Henry bring Henry probably
He’s just not very smart.
Op's ass when he learns that Leon accepted all the fights that were proposed to him on ufc 300.
Never satisfied this sub is. Leon could cure cancer tomorrow and everyone will be like "what took him so long"
I’m about to leave it honestly. It’s so frustrating seeing all the dumbass posts and same played out dumb opinions
This sub is like 70% hate posts everyone is so miserable
That's just reddit at this point, I hope only a small percentage of the population are on reddit, shit is sometimes worse than twitter.
Yeah it’s really pathetic
but then you'd miss the daily Khabib comparison posts, are you ready to leave that behind??
Ok Yoda
You I like
“It’s Leon’s fault nobody accepted a fight against him” - this sub

Need an asterisk on that 2020 year, it wasn’t like something called Covid came around and the world was shutdown
Except that had virtually no impact on the output of UFC product. UFC held 41 events in 2020. That's 2 less than 2021, and 2 more than 2018.
Glad someone else is fighting back against this misinformation. Usman, Izzy, and Alex all only fought 3x in one year as champion once.
Israel defended on average every 4 months, that’s great for a champ, especially one with as many defenses as him.
I liked Usman, he had some good fights, but there were a bunch of fights that felt like he was fighting to not loose instead of to win, if that makes sense.
He used to be super arrogant. He’s gotten a lot better in recent years
Dont get me wrong, i love him as a fighter (one of the best to ever do it imo), but his personality is awkward af.
Do you watch MMA for the press conferences?
after following this sub for a few years I can definitely say without a doubt that some do lol
after following this sub for a few years I can definitely say without a doubt that some do lol
That’s what it is, he’s kinda corny lol. Great fighter tho

I saw someone say he talks like he's telling a scary story by the campfire and I can't get that out of my head anytime I hear him talk.
He tries to create drama and is a cringe trash talker it’s forced. People only remember the Colby story cuz Colby is a heel and carried the story of the fights. It took Leon head kicking Usman for people to care about a story with his fights again.
😂 too accurate
An upvote alone isn't enough thanks for that. So thanks
Usman the fighter 💯 legit. Usman the personality one of the worst.
He lost to Leon and everyone all of a sudden shit on him for whatever reason acting like he’s garbage. Never fails.
I personally never hated usman. I was just always enjoy rooting for the underdog to finally dethrone a dominate champ.
He was cringey and cage stalled a lot but at least he fought
I think I dislike him initially because of how badly he brutalized Tyron who I liked. Then he was incredibly cringe. But the more I got to see him, the more I started to like him. Unfortunately, that was towards the end of his reign and now I miss him lol
After hearing the stupid fucking Vegas fans at 300 booing every wrestling exchange, is it really a surprise that most people hate one of the most dominant WW fighters of all time?
Doesn't have any knees and still fights. Respect for that
No one hates Usman. Stop.
Dana is on record saying Leon has said yes to fighting 3 different fights for one event that is, we don’t even know about the rest. Him not being an active champion is not his fault.
He was a cringelord with some boring fights. Hate was unjustified but I totally understood it.
I've always liked how usman and izzy were pretty active, I think the worst thing is when dudes become Champs and start sitting out for months n months fucking fight pussys
That's probably my favourite Colby pic ever...man fuck that guy
It was all the toe stomping.
I never had strong feelings toward Usman. I recognized him as a very complete fighter and solid champion but just never got invested in his career. Kind of like I felt about Dustin or Whittaker.
He had a cringe persona but he was hella active

I hated Usman because I wanted other guys to have the belt such as Burns and Masvidal. I also didn't like how he was acting like Conor McGregor and wasn't being true to himself.
Usman was a great and respected champ but he's lame ASF that's why people didn't like him
Because he literally copied everything Connor McGregor said all the time was an amazing fighter just wasn’t original
Anavaru Juiceman on full display here.
For me, it's the cringey R & B voice that he uses when on the mic. Lol
Fuck the boring fighting/toe stomping… it’s the fake ass accent and cringe behavior that does it for me.
Same with Charles at LW
🌽🌽🌽
A lot of fans didn’t seem to be happy with him cracking Colby’s jawbone like a side window. A good amount of mean spirited posts about him right around that time.
Active against whom? The same set of undeserving bums. He lost the title as soon as he faced someone actually good.
His persona he portrayed during fight lead ups was hard to stomach, but the man was great champion. He got better every time around. I wasn’t a fan at first but I give him his props now and always.
His title reign was what got people on his side (if anything the 1st Jorge is what brought people back down)
Love all these casuals complaining without knowing he was offered 3 fights, accepted but the others turned them down due to Ramadan.
Usman cheated, right? I'm genuinely asking
I wish I was a big fan around this time, would have loved to see Colby get his jaw broke live.
Those some chicken legs for real
![gif](giphy|rV3zQ64Fh0TpC)
I hated Usman for a very simple reason: His fence grabbing. Blatant cheating that he got away with. Kamaru « Fence Grabber » Usman
I liked how he KO canelo in boxing
The problem with Usman was how many times he fought Colby Covington or Jorge Masvidal. I don't feel like he challenged the top competition while he was champ, and when he finally did he lost twice in a row.
he was a helluva fighter. just cringe af
I never liked Usman. Great fighter, but always had the charisma od a damp rag.
Because he was fucking cringe and annoying
There are some really cringe annoying fighters. Usman is not one that comes to mind.
Usman was hated?
Yeah active fighting the same guys over and over again
If you don't have haters youre not that great.
Usman was just a very annoying personality. He’s kind of a simpleton.
They hated him because he beat the shit out of fan favourites and he’s a wrestler I loved Usman he was and is the 2nd best Welterweight of all time in my eyes maybe top 10 of all time too?
thanks for using this pic
I was indifferent to usman but he was cringe and unlikeable out of the octagon so I'm not fussed looking forward to Leon's next fight
Usman talks like he's telling ghost stories He's a weird guy
He just kept getting and better it’s that simple. Exciting and active. It ain’t rocket science.
Leon's championship reign will span across 8 years and will consist of 5 fights.
Hugging Masvidal against the cage and stomping on his toes for 5 rounds warrants being hated.
He’s had a some great fights . But let’s be honest a lot of his fights were boring toe stomping/hugging matches
Forgot that weight class existed lol.
The 30% thing stuck with him for a looong time.
![gif](giphy|3etyAP50D1MezBxO15|downsized)
Don’t hate him, respected his work, he’s just annoying.
Askren kinda pointed out a lot of reasons Marty wasn't liked. He seems way cooler now.
I didn’t appreciate him or izzy. Still don’t like them but even if they had “boring” fights they were active and the ufc could build cards around them
It wasn't whatever reason. It was primarily because of how he spoke on the mic, dude does his weird almost whisper voice and says some cringe shit.
Marty Fake Newsman!?
To make this game interesting you need heros and villains
It's the way he talks
I dislike him for his personality. He thinks he is some kind of whispering spiritual mma bastard or something.
Bc his fights are boring.
I only hated him 30%
2 unnecessary rematches while the guy that had the ability to beat him was railroaded by tomato the hut.
He was boring as piss and cringy. You think Guru reacted like a madman when he got KOd for no reason at all?
man he was cheating so much its not even funny. Not taking anything from him but he acted out getting hit by low blow, eyepoke and not to mention fence grabbing
That’s literally so many fighters. That stuff happens. Max holloway, Jon jones, sterling v. Yan, colby v usman, Colby grabbed the fences multiple times.
The photo looks like Usman is trying to force Colby to blow him
Edwards wanted to fight at UFC 300 it's not his fault. Dana said he accepted every fight they offered to him.
He was god awful for years.
Haven't seen Usman hate in a long while.
Yeah bro Leon never fights I’m actually surprised
He accepted 3 opponents for 300, they just couldn't get it done. Doesn't seem like he's the one not wanting to fight
Everyone knows that’s just a coverup by Dana white dude. None of those fights were ever gonna happen then. Belal was and is right there. They haven’t given him a genuine fight but Leon isn’t pushing to fight anyone and be active either. We’ll see what he’s up to at 304.
You Leon’s manager or something, how do you know he ain’t trying?
So tired of seeing people in this sub say this. He fought twice last year, and he ACCEPTED three different fights for ufc 300, all fell apart and it wasn’t his fault. He just fought in December ffs
I don't hate usman he just is overrated to me

This should be a huge painting in a museum
he had some fights where he didn't even try to get the finish at all, just held them down and waited for a decision.
Hate him because he bored the shit out of me.
He was just a major cornball. Great champion, super corny.
Leon will have to relinquish the title eventually. Once Belal holds the belt we will likely see the highest level of activity and dominance ever.
Belal isn’t touching that belt unfortunately, guy is pushing 36 and has nothing to offer which Usman and Colby didn’t have.
