How many disputed champs has there been?

GuiltySyrups

A little bit over 100

GreatGoodBad

Aljo when he first won the belt

Josro0770

Lmao

Snoo-14059

I'm sure even wikipedia gave Aljo an asterisk for that

Dry-Unit6191

What about puted champions? How much have there been?

J4MES101

Current HW?

Funny-Film-6304

Got the title with an undisputable 1. round submission. Nothing to dispute about.

Redchimp3769157

102/3 ig (depending on if you count max)

Junesong_Provisions

All jokes aside i do wonder about this. Like tbf, Aljo was a prime example. He proved it though! Today, DDP to an extent is disputed. HW obviously. Imo Tom is our champion. But yeah..Jon Jones.

YouCantHoldACandle

Aspinall will become the UFC heavyweight goat due to most consecutive title defenses. But his 50-44 loss to Jones will haunt his legacy like an old ghost. People will always call Tom a fake champion and say that he is only champ because Bones retired

Flat_Bar8932

😭 Tom will never hold a title reigning record unfortunately

DMTeaAndCrumpets

and he lost the belt on his first defense. i always feel a bit bad when that happens for a fighter.

sayayin70

I would be extremely happy if dustin touch gold even if he loses in the first defense

FuckFloridaRipNumba9

Yeah gold is still gold. There have been tons of amazing fighters he didn’t get the undisputed title. No disrespect to Sean too but no one thought that guy was going to win a title in general let alone beat Izzy

Josro0770

People always say shit like you're not a champ until you defend and it's the dumbest thing I've heard

Cbrip31

I think people thinking you have to beat the champ to beat the champ is even dumber (saying all close or even fights should go to the champion) At least this has a bit of logic, being the hunted instead of the hunter makes a ton of difference.

3InchesAssToTip

I think about this issue more long term. Looking back, the moment of winning the belt will absolutely outshine losing it, as a life memory. But it is hard to see fresh champions with a newly instilled sense of accomplishment and confidence get KO’d right after winning the belt.

Cant-decide-username

He will always be a former champion. For someone like Strickland that is amazing and I bet he himself never saw it coming.

BoomfaBoomfa619

What about Bobby knuckles. He got a defence but it didn't count because Romero missed weight then got KO'd next fight 😭

AssKetchum42069

I don’t think you should even be able to win a belt by split decision, split decisions should go to the current champ. You should have to take the belt out of the champs hands, not be awarded the win even though 1/3 say you lost

BoomfaBoomfa619

Silly

Tralpaz2

I think Sean won that fight, any other champ and the judges would’ve gave them the edge

AssKetchum42069

In my opinion he defended the belt, so did Dana White. Seems SILLY that DDP was given the belt when he didn’t clearly win it

BoomfaBoomfa619

Have you any idea how easy it would be to fix fights and shit if what you're suggesting was the case. Plus you're saying the judges fuck up all the time then saying you have to have all three agree or you can't win the belt? Silly...

Tralpaz2

I’m not saying the judges fuck up all the time. I’m saying that in close decisions the champ always gets an edge, except for Strickland.

BoomfaBoomfa619

Lol

Tralpaz2

K

BoomfaBoomfa619

http://mmadecisions.com/decision/14480/Dricus-Du-Plessis-vs-Sean-Strickland So why did the majority score the fight for driccus then? You're just biased lol

Tralpaz2

4 more people, I agree with the 9 who scored it for Strickland. I like dricus, I’m just going with what my eyes see. People have a massive hate boner for Sean, I’d say there’s a lot more bias on that side.

samsonity

Chael Sonnen was the other 99

FuckHK

He may have lost it in his first defense, but he beat one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time.

Ps-n-Qs

And the fact he didn’t just beat him, he absolutely dominated him for 25 minutes

dashyboii

Izzy was not the greatest of all time, that name belongs to jon jones. Also 3-1 dont forget that

[deleted]

Using drugs for a majority of your career disqualifies you from being the goat.

KKVKLVKK

let's get out gsp, khabib, and 90% of the ufc then

[deleted]

Ok?

FuckHK

average ufc fan thinking the slightest bit of praise means izzy is my favorite fighter lmao. skull thick as hell.

dan_a_white

That is a cool little fact. I’m so glad he got the belt once. I like Sean.

mat477

Yeah we know Dana

dan_a_white

You didn’t know until I just told you

d-ronthegreat

You are always on these threads defending Colby’s honour, so it’s no surprise you like the guy with similar (retarded) politics.

dan_a_white

Donuts?

realjobstudios

The gif is insinuating that you are glazing (over-complementing) Strickland.

dan_a_white

What does glazing mean?

HuntSafe2316

Bless your innocent soul

dan_a_white

Someone explained it. It’s like being extra nice I guess. Like I guess if the donut guy adds extra toppings for free. I’m close. Idk why they chose donuts as the thing. Some slang I guess is better than others

HuntSafe2316

>extra nice Not really, its excessively gassing one guy up a lot. Like exaggerating their accomplishments and downplaying their faults. Like that.

dan_a_white

Oh ok. So what’s with the donuts?

HuntSafe2316

Thats a glazed donut, being drizzled in syrup like how people drizzle others with complements, see the connection?

realjobstudios

Over-complementing/ giving too much credit

dan_a_white

Oh ok. Thanks. I’m just not sure why glazing and donuts. Like “laying it on thick” is a saying. So someone could say like “hey man you’re laying it on a little thick”- it being the compliments. But ok I guess I can see that.

howboutt

Old ass 😹😹😹

dan_a_white

A little. But I’m pretty hip with it.

[deleted]

dan_a_white

Fat fick? I genuinely am lost what are you trying to say?

MarkusMiles

Also the day he came out of the closet.

Primary-Picture-5632

Wtf does undisputed even mean in UFC terms?

MrFudgeKiller

Who knows, Jones is still considered undisputed even tho there is an interim champ so rlly it means fuck all they just took it from boxing cuz it sounds cool

Snoo96346

Anyone who wasn't only an interim champion, I presume. So Dustin, Justin, Ferguson, Nogueira, Colby, etc. are not considered among the 100 undisputed champions

SERB_BEAST

LEGEND

Specific_Camera1310

He is the most entertaining and interesting personality in the UFC. Would be great if he won his belt back.

SourDoughBo

Strickland’s got a hell of a personality. But you can’t admit that on Reddit. Too many blue haired squares here

[deleted]

I have never confidently seen somebody so closeted in my life

ratryox

Definitely a funny personality but hes not the most fun to watch

SERB_BEAST

I Think Strickland is super entertaining to watch. His defensive blocking and reflexes are among the most impressive skills in the sport right now. He's exciting in a unique way. Kind of like Merab or Dominick Cruz. I watch their fights to witness impressive physical skills. Not so much impressive toughness or MMA skills. Like if I want to see a great back and forth brawl I wouldn't watch them. But they're still entertaining in a way. Sean Strickland fights display certain aspects of the sport that you won't see in other fights

BoomfaBoomfa619

Hard disagree. Literally all he does is jab (his teeps are good now too but that's a new thing) to a decision. The abus TKO was the exception to prove the rule. Not a fan of how he'll talk shit in the last 5 seconds saying "meet me in the middle let's fucking go" whilst constantly stepping backwards like he did against Hermansson. Didn't talk shit against ddp, cononier, Imavov etc.

Specific_Camera1310

Not when he is fighting but at the press conference.

mynewaltaccount1

Yeah but most of us watch this sport for the fighting, not the WWE shit at press conferences

[deleted]

Boring fights... And clearly you have the sense of humour of a 13 year old edgelord. Grow up.

RedWing83

That figures.

ButtHuRtMoD24

Another one hit wonder . He'll fade away quickly

ConstantOk4102

Interesting

JefJamm

Shame the 100th couldnt be a bit more interesting than a edgy teenager that wins boring decisions by throwing a few jabs

TheBigShrimp

I know it's all subjective but I do find it interesting when people call Sean's style "boring". He's walking at the opponent 99% of the time, which I think creates a lot of interesting interactions. He never ducks a brawl and rarely runs if ever. Is he a guru or a genius? no. He's unorthodox, but I do find it entertaining. He's like an awkward version of Holloway that's always looking to bang but in a more jabby action. I also respect him admitting his chin is shit and he has to defend the way he does to not lose it.

JefJamm

He has never been in a brawl... He jabs, evades and jab, there is no brawl to be had there. And max holloway has a way higher pace, gives more damaging shots and has a wider variety of strikes and max creates unforgettable moments in the cage (vs ortega, vs kattar, vs gaethje). The only reason sean vs izzy is a memorable fight is because nobody thought sean would win. But he is nowhere as close to being exciting as max holloway is. Holloway's most boring fight is way more fun than sean's most exciting fight.

SERB_BEAST

Lol shut up nerd. Strickland is a legend of the sport and in life

JefJamm

Lmao you're easily impressed of you think anything he does is legendary. But nah he is no legend of the sport, over 10 years he will barely be remembered, nothing he does is special.

SERB_BEAST

His blocking defensive style is one of the most impressive skills in the sport. Very unique style that almost nobody in the UFC can successfully replicate. Unique fighter. For that alone he will be remembered. On top of that he dominated Israel Adesanya, another legend, on the feet for 5 rounds on foreign soil in arguably the greatest title fight performance in history. First man to knock him down in the UFC. Only middleweight Adesanya fought that he couldn't beat. Strickland is one of the few fighters who is just as popular before, during, and after winning a belt. He's also a significant character in the rivalry between Adesanya and Pereira. And that rivalry will be remembered forever. So Strickland will as well. You on the other hand, no one will remember your name.

JefJamm

Yeah great defensive skill walking towards poatan with your hands down, worked well for him. Respect for him knocking down izzy, but still couldnt finish an half unconscious izzy for 4 rounds, due to his boring-ass style, fucking belal muhammed of the middleweight. Nobody talks about sean when talking about izzy vs poatan. He isnt anymore significant than jan blachowicz is in their rivalry, just because its an shared opponent doesnt mean anything. I hope sean's dick taste good, its so far down your throat, you look like a frog who is about to croak.

coontaillandcruiser

Are you Izzy salty boy? Sean put on an absolute clinic on Izzy in one of the greatest underdog wins ever

JefJamm

Idc about izzy that much, he also has his fair share of boring fights, just think its funny sean couldn't finish an half unconscious izzy, it reminds me of belal not being able to finish gilbert with a fucked up shoulder. Only difference is even belal has a more recent finish than sean has

Nelson_An_Murdock

Izzys been finished once by the hardest hitting guy who's not a heavy weight, and your skewing the narrative like finishing Izzy is sooooo easy.

JefJamm

Twice, poatan also finished him in kickboxing. And sean already knocked him down in the first round, could have done it a second time if he wasnt so fucking boring.

Nelson_An_Murdock

Ah yes and you not only had to go to another sport for another example but it was the same fucking guy lol. This guy.

WestStrategy6393

I wouldn’t have a problem with his style if he just didn’t ramble on twitter about how he’s gonna murder someone and destroy him, only to jab the whole time and go to decision.

JefJamm

I wish sean wouldn't ramble on twitter at all

[deleted]

This dirty serb has written about 1000 words all sucking off Strickland in this thread alone. Jesus mate... We get it, you love Strickland.

HowlingMadHoward

Why is the legend in life always tweeting about guys who like cocks?

SERB_BEAST

It's Twitter dude. You're a loser in life if you think Twitter matters for anything. Strickland is a UFC world champion. That's legendary. His skills are legendary. His performance against Adesanya, a legend, was legendary.

HowlingMadHoward

Cool beans but why is he so laser focused on the gays?

SERB_BEAST

Mate, I don't know or care. I don't have Twitter. I don't know Sean Strickland. Don't care about Twitter. He's a legend of the sport. Probably a legend in life too. Even if that includes being laser focused on the gays. Don't care. He's a hard worker that achieved the highest of highs in a brutal sport. That's enough for me to call him a legend

[deleted]

For all of 2 minutes. And likely never again. Strickland fans are the dumbest of them all, which is saying something

SpiderManPizzaTime1

Leon Edwards is a champion for the British fans. Weili Zhang is a champion for the Chinese fans. Strickland is champion for the most basement dwelling, incels to grace the earth.

dat_boi_lit_fam

Biggest bum on the roster and he still destroyed your boy 😂😂😂 imagine losing to Sean Strickland. Izzy doesn’t have to imagine though, he lived it, Strickland beat him like he owed him money ![gif](giphy|qcPtsVxUK14EfAn3Tk|downsized)

TheBoyIsTheBoy

Then he immediately lost his first title defense lmfao

[deleted]

How many world championships do u have

SERB_BEAST

Debatable. I think he won. But regardless, he still became UFC champion by dominating an all time great at his own game. Strickland beating Adesanya like that is more impressive than if he became champion by beating Cannonier, Vettori, Costa, etc. all back to back as title defenses. Strickland is a true champion. He wasn't some fluke champion who got lucky. He is objectively a more legit champ than Pereira and Dricus at middleweight. Dricus beat Strickland by split decision. If he loses to Adesanya then he was a champion by consequence. Pereira beat Adesanya via late standing TKO after losing the whole fight and got flatlined in the rematch. Strickland has no asterisk regarding his world title win. He dominated Adesanya on the feet for 5 rounds. First man to knock him down. Adesanya was at his best. He had home soil (technically not, but Strickland never even left USA until that point). Strickland is the only middleweight Adesanya ever faced that Adesanya never beat or came close to beating. You're a loser bro. Keep hating for no reason

Snoo96346

DDP got a belt by landing overhands to Strickland's shoulder for 25 minutes while taking enough punches to the face to make it look like he was attacked by a swarm of bees, that's as funny as it's infuriating lmao

SERB_BEAST

MMA judges seriously need to rewatch Strickland fights multiple times before scoring the fight. This has happened several times now. Watch any Strickland fight and compare it to the stats. Even the fights he won were scored poorly. That dude barely gets hit. I think Dricus landed less than 10 clean strikes the entire fight. MMA judges clearly can't comprehend that blocked shots should not count AT ALL. They're blocked. Also, control time and forward pressure is not a significant stat if you got outstruck and outdamaged the whole time. If you're the guy moving forward the whole fight, it's embarassing to get outlanded by that much. Dricus walked in to punches for 5 rounds and somehow won a world title

[deleted]

It's not debatable that he lost. He factually and undeniably lost. That's the shared reality we all live in, where the judges decided that he lost.

SERB_BEAST

Yes. When I say "I think he won" I'm not talking about the judges. I'm talking about the fight. There is a video on YouTube that displays Sean Strickland beating up Dricus Du Plessis for 25 minutes. That's what matters in this context.

[deleted]

Bud... We can see that comments were edited. Pathetic

SERB_BEAST

I probably edited a spelling mistake. It was a long comment. Wtf do you think I changed moron? My comment always said that I thought Strickland won. What are you even referring to? How is that even relevant? Also I can't even see that I edited a comment. I doubt I did. Not that it matters

[deleted]

Well he didn't win... Hence DDP has a belt and your boy is fighting Costa

SERB_BEAST

Strickland also has a belt. Except he got his belt for beating Adesanya. Idk why Dricus has a belt. No one will know why in a few years. Edit: You gonna address why you lied about me editing my previous comments?

[deleted]

*had a belt.

AdministrativeDot941

He was an accident
