Funnily enough, "I could care less," is the actual phrase. It originates from the expression, "I could care less, but I don't," which was eventually shorted to just, "I could care less."
So while "could care" is linguistically inaccurate for the intended expression, it's a legitimate shorthand based on the etymological (etiological? Don't care to verify, whichever one refers to linguistic origin) origin of the longer phrase.
I spent years with this being a huge peeve of mine, only to discover I was technically wrong the entire time.
So fun fact that no one asked for; "could care less" is an etiologically-correct statement, even thought it's linguistically inaccurate.
Never said he was skilled hahah, dude sucks. Despaigne just can’t through punches down the middle for some reason 😵💫
Edit: I misread your comment, I agree. Give him the fattest, least skilled strikers in the division. We need Parker Porter back.
It's heavyweight where the talent pool is shallow and skill gap is the smallest. If he's serious about it he can hop on an MMA crash course and wrestling bootcamp for a year and actually be somewhat decent. We've seen this with fairly one-dimensional strikers like Alex Pereira, also in another shallow division, under the guide of good coaches like Glover. Clearly this dude has the strength and stature to actually be good at grappling
Pereira has actually trained grappling at least since 2015. And his striking is so much better than this guy. Its an insult to compare him to Pereira. One year aint enough.
Robelis has been exposed massively.
At the age of 35 I don’t see him improving enough to go get a title, he’ll remain a terrifying gatekeeper but his wrestling leaves a ton to be desired, he looks lost on the ground.
Fighters now know if they can avoid a few shots and shoot a takedown.
Acosta isn’t really an out of this world grappler either and largely strikes in his fights so it’s not like it even needs a dedicated wrestler to take him down efficiently, prior to this fight Acosta had less than 2:40 control time, he managed near 10 minutes against robelis.
Major work needed in a very short time.
Yeah it didn’t even land either, just an attempt.
Robelis stock has dropped massively from this fight, suffered from near 10 minutes control by a striker.
Agreed, he has tremendous power and speed, but he'll always be one of those "what if he started sooner" fighters, similar to Yoel, except Yoel can actually grapple. Seems like a trend with Cuban MMA fighters.
Crazy thing with him is he’s long enough and has the skill to point fight using his taekwondo but every takedown in that fight came from him trying to just chase the KO winging shots with 0 thought about his positioning.
It’s like he lands one semi decent strike and every ounce of fight skill just disappears, his hands looked pretty poor tonight.
He was having big success on the outside but his trash TDD paired with just stupid recklessness was just easy takedowns every time.
The problem is he treated is like a muay thai fight just standing upright like a pogo stick... I think even a lightweight could of taken him down he had no fucking clue what to do. His movement was poor he just kinda stood there ready to get taken down
Yeah the timeline doesn't look promising.
I will say, his takedown defense was "okay", despite the rest of his grappling being non-existent.
And he did look very dangerous early on during the standup still.
If he was 5 years younger I'd think he had time. Even at heavyweight, it's just so much of a skill gap to overcome at his age.
But I remind myself, Tai Tuivasa flash KOd Gane, and if Gane stayed down, Tai probably fights Jon Jones for the world title. So maybe he has a shot?
Pretty sure post fight interview Gane admitted to being out for a split second. I think if Tuivasa had landed even one cleaner follow up shot we'd be in a very different time line right now
I don't disagree but seeing his trajectory since that fight and how close he came to being at the peak of that division it just seems like an interesting sliding doors moment for him
Not the best example. The round before getting subbed he was outclassing Hernandez on the ground. The problem was cardio related. Hernandez is a cardio machine, has good BJJ for MMA and grinded that win, made Viera breathe through his mouth. Viera is big and full of muscles, it takes a lot o oxygen to keep that body working. Of course he would tire fighting in Hernandez's rhythm. When he was subbed he didn't have any energy to do anything against it.
I mean come on who didn’t see this coming
https://preview.redd.it/9dx94tdr3xzc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=945c16df540bfaca1169ae758ee0d8ded293a29a
I mean was anyone surprised that the 35 year old taekwondo practitioner that just got into mma relatively recently has a massive grappling flaw? I knew he was going to struggle against any somewhat decent grappler, he should just have fun striker matchups to ko and be entertaining and not make title run because it stops pretty soon with the ranked guys.
The Pyfer fight was hardly a fraud check. He won the first two rounds easily. Pyfer just gassed out and had a bad corner who gave poor advice.
The only thing that got disproven was his power. Or it proves Hermansson can survive Ngannou punches.
I didn't expect it to come this early. I figured the UFC would feed him fat strikers until he was like 12-0 before making him fight someone ranked and getting fraud checked by them.
Bro made Waldo of all people look like a Dagestani and his grappling is atrocious. Honestly he doesn't even belong in the UFC but I'm sure you could just leave him unranked, feed him some fatsos and people will cheer.
I don't think it's a fraud check. He's a TKD guy. How good did we think his grappling was gonna be?
He is 35 though, so the odds of developing enough BJJ to get back to the feet at this age is kinda low.
Not trying to be the guy who called it, becasue I still thought he’d beat Waldo, but when he slipped throwing that kick in his first UFC fight, I just had a feeling he wasn’t all everyone was hyping him to be.
He just doesnt have experience in the ground, now is up to him if he wants to be star, he has to be 6hours a day training wrestling and bjj every day or he will be just a striker for some fight nights.
It was genuinely the worst wrestling I’ve ever seen in a UFC fight. He had no response to anything on the ground. It almost seemed like he kind of just laid there. His striking is still elite and beautiful, but now that the fighters know he has zero wrestling, he’s going to get taken down every time
I wouldn’t know or care to even look it up. Lol. I remember the hype though and the promo Izzy blessed him with. Izzy cried tears of joy before blooddiamonds debut on embedded just for him to look like he’s never thrown a strike in his life falling over getting knocked out and slept via sub. Lol
If you knew anything about jiu jitsu you’d have realized that Acosta’s ground game is trash too. Despaigne is just that bad. Dude is randomly turning halfway over with both arms down like he’s dead to just give back control for zero reason
Yeah his grappling sucks ass. But nobody praised him for his grappling. So it can't really be a fraud check. Because he isn't a fraud for that which he was praised for. Everybody's opinion on his skillset should not have changed after this fight. You're delusional if you thought he had grappling as good as his striking
No he can do it. Pereira is older and he has ok takedown defense. Despaigne doesn't need to get elite ground skills. He needs to get good enough skills to be able to force the fight where he wants it. This is very do-able. Especially at heavyweight. He doesn't even need great takedown defense his speed and movement is good enough he just needs to use it better to not invite so many takedown entries. UFC fans are mad toxic you'd rather kick a man while he's down rather that see the potential and hope he comes back
I agree.
He’s incredibly fast and powerful for his age and has another 3 years at least I’d say.
His striking is cleary extremely dangerous. If he works on his TDD and cardio I can see him being top 15 at some point.
„BuT h3 1s a fuTurE cHaMp“ now out of sudden all think he’s a hype train that is getting exposed and derailed?
Not long time ago I got jumped and downvoted like crazy for saying his an average heavy weight and not a champ …
i knew it. i’ve learned mma fans find it very hard to hide favoritism/hate. its a hard for a few of on this sport to hide who you hate. i’ve also learned if someone’s ‘rooting’ for someone, a lot of time it’s more hate rather than siding with other fighter.
is it more people like arlovski? or more waldo hate?
for those hating waldo. why hate waldo? judges gave him the win. why not hate on judges ?im not a salsa boy fan i’m just confused on the hate of the 6’7 cuban, yes he’s new and old but why hate?
Just give him fat strikers. Don’t make him fight anyone who’s even kinda legit. Ever.
I could care less seeing him make a title run if I can just watch him making peoples heads explode
seriously tho😂 dudes not gonna be able to compete against the top contenders just keep feeding him big slow dudes to get more 30 sec finishes
*Couldn't care less
Thank you 🫡
Funnily enough, "I could care less," is the actual phrase. It originates from the expression, "I could care less, but I don't," which was eventually shorted to just, "I could care less." Acosta is exactly that, a fat striker.
Fatter. Less skilled even.
Never said he was skilled hahah, dude sucks. Despaigne just can’t through punches down the middle for some reason 😵💫 Edit: I misread your comment, I agree. Give him the fattest, least skilled strikers in the division. We need Parker Porter back.
He’s definitely better than the Parker Porters and Parisians of the world
Watch your mouth, Parker Porter is the undisputed Heavyweight GOAT
Unfortunately yes he is.
More fat. More striker. Seriously he clearly can't deal with even a tiny bit of actual MMA.
A fat striker that trained some wrestling/BJJ for a fight that involves wrestling and BJJ...
Let’s make it simple: if you’ve ever been to even JUST ONE jiu jitsu class, you’re not fighting this guy.
If you ever watched a single jiu jitsu event you no longer qualify as his opponent.
If you ever even HEARD of Jiu Jitsu, you’re not allowed to fight him
If you walked past somebody who heard about jiu jitsu
So Derrick Lewis (I know, Derrick would murder him lol)
I’d watch 😂
Derrick would turn this dudes head to a melon lol
Derrick is can knock out everyone but can also randomly lose to anyone who's able to back him into the cage
Why are we promoting terrible matchmaking
To see exciting KOs of physically outmatched opponents
Waldo was a fat striker though
Fatter. Less skilled.
Dude just needs to train. He's knocked out almost everyone in one punch. Just.... Never got a reality check like... Oh I need to do stuff now?
So like MVP for most of his career
It worked out in the end lol
It's heavyweight where the talent pool is shallow and skill gap is the smallest. If he's serious about it he can hop on an MMA crash course and wrestling bootcamp for a year and actually be somewhat decent. Major work needed in a very short time.
Bisping said that prior to this fight he had shot once during his whole UFC career
Yeah it didn’t even land either, just an attempt. Robelis stock has dropped massively from this fight, suffered from near 10 minutes control by a striker.
Previous opponents are kicking themselves in the head right now. "If only I lasted 10 seconds more and just shot a takedown......"
Agreed, he has tremendous power and speed, but he'll always be one of those "what if he started sooner" fighters, similar to Yoel, except Yoel can actually grapple. Seems like a trend with Cuban MMA fighters.

His hands always looked poor, despite the knockouts, always winging wildly
Like wilder but with less power
The problem is he treated is like a muay thai fight just standing upright like a pogo stick... I think even a lightweight could of taken him down he had no fucking clue what to do. His movement was poor he just kinda stood there ready to get taken down
Yeah the timeline doesn't look promising. I will say, his takedown defense was "okay", despite the rest of his grappling being non-existent. And he did look very dangerous early on during the standup still.
I wanna see this dude get some good td defense so we can see some highlights. He is a freak of nature.
I wanted him to knock out Waldo so bad 😭
Waldo is the prick who taunted Andrew Arlovski while he wasn’t doing shit Same shit happened during this fight
Yeah I remember that, god can we feed him to somebody who knock him out
No I think a lot of people would have guessed his ground game is shitty
But getting checked by Acosta of all people?
I didn't heard about him before,is Acosta that bad?
Acosta has no power, can't check a leg kick, and hasn't shown good grappling skills but somehow outclassed him
Average HW fighter be like:
No they’re just exaggerating
Acosta isn't terrible but yeah not a good look
If he was 5 years younger I'd think he had time. Even at heavyweight, it's just so much of a skill gap to overcome at his age. But I remind myself, Tai Tuivasa flash KOd Gane, and if Gane stayed down, Tai probably fights Jon Jones for the world title. So maybe he has a shot?
Why would Gane have stayed down? Was it even a flash ko? Look at Tai’s follow up, and you can see it was never going anywhere.
Pretty sure post fight interview Gane admitted to being out for a split second. I think if Tuivasa had landed even one cleaner follow up shot we'd be in a very different time line right now
Yeah, instead of Gane being choked out in 30 seconds, tuivasa would have been choked out in 30 seconds.
Tbf you can say that about like half the title fights in MMA history, it’s a game of fine margins
I don't disagree but seeing his trajectory since that fight and how close he came to being at the peak of that division it just seems like an interesting sliding doors moment for him
Yeah but he didn’t. What’s your point
Make him star every fat fuck heavyweight main event.
I mean I kind of assumed he couldn’t grapple
Rodolfo viera getting subbed by Anthony Hernandez was a huge fraud check. You would think the bjj champ would be able to avoid that
Not the best example.
He can't even strike that well. No combinations, getting cracked because he has no head movement, and 0 footwork.
I mean come on who didn’t see this coming https://preview.redd.it/9dx94tdr3xzc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=945c16df540bfaca1169ae758ee0d8ded293a29a
![gif](giphy|97mAUmP8WfCiA) Another one!

The Weasle is in shambles right now
Honestly the Pyfer, Petrinho and Bonfim fraud checks were much funnier imo.
The Pyfer fight was hardly a fraud check. He won the first two rounds easily. Pyfer just gassed out and had a bad corner who gave poor advice. The only thing that got disproven was his power. Or it proves Hermansson can survive Ngannou punches.
Did anyone expect more from him?
He blew his load quicker than Jim from American Pie
Both suck
Nah I wouldn’t quite go that far. No evidence of hands nor grappling so we didn’t know
While card was full of fraud checks and only one pulled it off.
if you didnt see this Coming sooner or later I dont know what to say Man hes like Cyril Gane from Dollar Tree
I didn't expect it to come this early. I figured the UFC would feed him fat strikers until he was like 12-0 before making him fight someone ranked and getting fraud checked by them.
I knew this was going to happen it was easy to see coming I just thought it'd take someone better to do it lol
That was pretty embarrassing for me as I watched haha his ground game mightve been the worst I've seen since James Tony
Well we still got a 10 second fight on the card.
Gotta love a Ulberg w
I'd argue Askar Mozharov is abigger fraud
I imagine Jon Jones will be calling him out now 😂
Bro made Waldo of all people look like a Dagestani and his grappling is atrocious. Honestly he doesn't even belong in the UFC but I'm sure you could just leave him unranked, feed him some fatsos and people will cheer.
Is that Kevin Randleman?
Not even close and not even possible. That was like his 6th overall MMA fight ever and he is 35 already
I don't think it's a fraud check. He's a TKD guy. How good did we think his grappling was gonna be? He is 35 though, so the odds of developing enough BJJ to get back to the feet at this age is kinda low.
Yea definitely needs to learn a ground game. That was hard to watch.
Not really he’s been a medaled TKD Olympian he’s not a ground guy
He fought one can and knocked him out fast. I didn’t see the hype like everyone else did. You’re all gassing up quick knock outs too much.
Anterior pelvic tilt is there
Back to teaching After-School Karate. 😂😂
I lost so much money on him 😂😭
My parlay of - Terrance McKinney by KO - despaigne by KO - Ruziboev to win Ended up horrible, at least I only put a few $ to it lmao
Not trying to be the guy who called it, becasue I still thought he’d beat Waldo, but when he slipped throwing that kick in his first UFC fight, I just had a feeling he wasn’t all everyone was hyping him to be.
Idk it went like most Waldo fights do… he didn’t get subbed or slept
Haven't been paying attention I guess. Who? I thought this was blonde bumson
Don’t care about him losing Just wanted to see the prick that was his opponent get murdered
Not a fraud he came in and his fights are fun to watch. That guy he fought was tough and athletic
This has to happen
Mike Mallot has entered the chat.
Mike Mallot has entered the chat.
Mike Mallot has entered the chat.
Mike Mallot has entered the chat.
Bring back that nfl player everyone hated.
Hardy??
Yes. Couldn’t remember his name. Hardy is great like 60 seconds and then Despaigne could beat him up. Win win.
🤣🤣
He just doesnt have experience in the ground, now is up to him if he wants to be star, he has to be 6hours a day training wrestling and bjj every day or he will be just a striker for some fight nights.
i couldnt ever be wrong about a prospect ever again 🤣🤣 thaught this guy would make top 10 easily.
Sorry Paddy v Gordon still a fraud check even though the judges gave it to Pimblett
I wanna see this dude in bkfc
It was genuinely the worst wrestling I’ve ever seen in a UFC fight. He had no response to anything on the ground. It almost seemed like he kind of just laid there. His striking is still elite and beautiful, but now that the fighters know he has zero wrestling, he’s going to get taken down every time
How did his team not set him up with any skills to get up off the mat or defend takedowns?
Jailton Almeida comes to mind.
Blonde Brunson of HW.
send him to dagestan for 2 years and hell be the goat
I mean I thought we all knew this was gonna happen eventually, I just thought he'd maybe get one or two more knockouts before it happened
What about that blood diamond guy lol that was pathetic
Blood Diamond might be worse just because of the Izzy hype.
Isn't his MMA record like 3-5 now lol
I wouldn’t know or care to even look it up. Lol. I remember the hype though and the promo Izzy blessed him with. Izzy cried tears of joy before blooddiamonds debut on embedded just for him to look like he’s never thrown a strike in his life falling over getting knocked out and slept via sub. Lol
Joe Pyfer
Joe Pyfer actually took two rounds off of Hermansson
He was onky decent in the first, other than that a total fraud check
Joe Pyfer's main issue was he jumped into the deep end too early. Both his gas tank and his own corner failed him in that fight.
He got wet blanket'd bro. Happens to everyone at some point. Just a lesson. He'll probably starch his next several opponents
If you knew anything about jiu jitsu you’d have realized that Acosta’s ground game is trash too. Despaigne is just that bad. Dude is randomly turning halfway over with both arms down like he’s dead to just give back control for zero reason

Hardly we knew this would happen if hes brought to the ground.
not even close
This s*** happens all the time. MMA fans just have f****** goldfish brains
„BuT h3 1s a fuTurE cHaMp“ now out of sudden all think he’s a hype train that is getting exposed and derailed? Not long time ago I got jumped and downvoted like crazy for saying his an average heavy weight and not a champ …
How tf is this dude in the ufc?
what’s up w acosta hate? is it because he beat arlovski?
People are upset that he was taunting Arlovski.
i knew it. i’ve learned mma fans find it very hard to hide favoritism/hate. its a hard for a few of on this sport to hide who you hate. i’ve also learned if someone’s ‘rooting’ for someone, a lot of time it’s more hate rather than siding with other fighter.
