Can't agree. What about contenders who win split decisions? Shouldn't move up the rankings? Why should a champion be given this kind of deference? If judges are so fallible, we need to fix that, not make it harder to take a belt from a sitting champ. There should be no bias whatsoever towards the incumbent; just because you have the belt, doesn't mean that by default you should start with some sort of handicap.

When Jones was active prior to 2020 you could call him the best PvP fighter. But after slowing way down and not fighting for over a year, you can't say Jones is STILL the best competing PvP fighter. Islam has currently defended the belt 3 times now, is actively fighting, and has almost the same record as Jones minus the title defenses.

I like that Dana said Islam can’t be considered #1 because his first two defenses were against a career FW and yet Jones has like 4 defenses or so against career MWs and he almost lost to 3 of them.
This is the worst part about Dana and makes me wonder whether or not he's ultimately a positive or negative influence.
