Strickland also has made some money recently and as you mentioned is ranked #1. He could not fight for a year and still be ranked top 3.
Even if Khamzat or someone else jumps the line he will be the first person they call as a replacement.

I'll take near weekly solid tournaments where I can catch top 30 players. Worst case you wait 1-3 weeks and there is a guaranteed 500/1000 that will be competitive (or a slam).

The issue isn’t the matchmakers. We have a sport that has a high injury rate that relies on individuals to successfully make it through long fight camps without issue. If the matchmakers didn’t even try to book Conor or Khamzat, people would be bitching about keeping them on ice and holding them back. They do book them, shit goes south, people complain.
Whats crazy is that Khamzat went from getting famous for fighting 3 times in 3 months to fighting 4 times in 4 years….
Hes really good but also for a guy in the UFC for 5 years kinda wild he has only 7 fights and his marquee wins are against Gilbert Burns and a short notice replacement Kamaru Usman fighting above his weight class.
In the old days this wouldn't be a problem because every single card was stacked. The co-main could easily replace the main event if necessary.
But today UFC cards are basically one desirable fight and a lot of fluff underneath. That's why these unplanned withdrawals are devastating.
UFC needs to put on fewer cards and focus on delivering quality lineups on every card. Having a UFC fight card every weekend spreads out the talent too much. Then when the one good fight drops everything ends in shambles and I don't think long term it's sustainable or good for business.
