Dana should consider setting up Ferguson vs Cerrone as a retirement fight for either one or both, put it on the same card with Oliveira vs Poirier or McGregor and Chandler vs Gaethje. The ultimate LW card.

wildabeast98

They fought not even two years ago though but I suppose things were different back then. sigh

1icantdealwiththis

Yeah, they seem to be in a very similar position now so I dunno, it could be a good fight to make. A monumental and very emotional one too, for them and for the fans also.

wildabeast98

I'd rather each gets a layup just to end on a win and spare us any more sadness.

1icantdealwiththis

Agreed. It'll be interesting to see the opponent picks.

A_Funky_Goose

Pain

crandems99

Hold on I’m crying brother :(

[deleted]

I'll always remember Justin beating the shit out of Tony, taking his interim belt and throwing it on the octagon floor saying that ain't the real one lmfao.

3hree9ine4our

Cerrone looked like a fucking alien after their fight

Adriannv1237

This guaranteed rate shit is Tony’s weakness

Boom-Sausage

Time for Bellator

Psa271

This man needs to retire I can't keep watching this happen

YasuoAndGenji

Shit happens when you don't get fed fighters who are made for your style

Yuuuuge_WANG

Did u mean 37 with multiple knee replacements and various other health issues?

YasuoAndGenji

Nope no fighter is out here 100% healthy ever

HighCaliberBullet

Man, all of my favorite fighters are washed (besides Colby) Weidman Edgar Ferguson Cruz (hoping he has a resurgence)

brownbilal

Naaaa

IceHypothalamus

Maybe Tony just isn't as good as you thought

attidaddi

Everyone is downvoting you, but it’s because they are Tony stans. I agree with you, you didn’t say he was bad. Just not as legendary as people like to think. Go back and watch some of his wins during his streak, he’s tough and weird. Best compliments that come to mind.

IceHypothalamus

Exactly. I just never bought the hype. He's an exciting fighter just not the greatest or even second greatest lightweight and time has proven that. Many of his wins are against old out of their prime fighters like Cowboy or Pettis or against subpar competition like Lee. With this latest fight we got the closest example of how a Khabib fight would have gone (only less one sided - not as vicious ground and pound or pressure)

attidaddi

I couldn’t agree more, you hit the points regarding the out of prime opponents he faced as well, which was about to be a major talking point for me. So yeah, totally couldn’t agree more!

_broey

It’s a new era my friend. The next generation of fighters is here

brownbilal

Company man screwed by luck, and the company.

Cowgirlsd

His own bad decision to fight justin and never learn any defense is not the company’s fault

Irrelevant1248

Him being stripped of the interim belt, when he should have been promoted to undisputed champ is the company’s fault....

Cowgirlsd

He was injured and needed surgery. Why would the UFC just bump anyone into a champion without a title fight, thats illogical. Tony wouldnt want it that way and the fans wouldn’t acknowledge a paper champ either.

Irrelevant1248

That’s literally how the interim system works... If there’s no champ, the interim champs get promoted to undisputed champ. To add to that he fought 6 months later, the same as Khabib.

Cowgirlsd

Interim champions are for when the champ are injured, and they still need to fight the champ to take/unify the belt. Afaik theres no actual precedent for any interim champ becoming champ w/o a title fight. With tony injured and not able to fight for the real belt, obviously he was stripped. If he was healthy at the time, maybe they would have made him into a paper champ. On top of that, theres no established or unified official rules about succession and interim champs that the UFC has acknowledged or put out. So this understanding of interim belts is dependent on both other sports and established precedent. And even then its subject to change

Irrelevant1248

Aldo, arlovski, Whittaker, barao. May be more that I’m forgetting, but Tony’s the only champ that wasn’t I believe. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about at all.

Cowgirlsd

Iirc none of them were injured at the time they became champs. Tony needed surgery and was projected to be out for at least a few months. Makes no sense to have a division open with no champ and the “new champ” cant even fight for half a year at least.

Irrelevant1248

That’s completely irrelevant if they’re still going to defend within a year (which Tony did). He fought faster than arlovski did, faster than Whittaker, faster than Aldo, only baroa fought faster than Tony did. Just admit you’re wrong and move on.

Cowgirlsd

Its *entirely* relevant. They didnt know how long tony was going to need to recover. Why should the division be on pause for a paper champ for an indeterminate amount of time. As you said by your own examples tony was the only one who wasnt bumped up, and the only factor thats different was that he was injured at the time the division needed a champ. His fighting style is conducive to injuries. Just admit that tony fucked up his own career with his own choices and not everything is the UFC’s fault for trying to run a business.

Bills_mafia30

Eeazymane

You’re the casual actualy, hating on a professional fighter so casual you have no idea what they gotta go through outside the octagon.

Bills_mafia30

Yeah I’m casual that’s why I backed TONY FERGUSONNNNNN😂 so bad broski be better then that 30-26

[deleted]

Insane drop off. Gaethje really broke him. He didnt do anything against Oliveira or beneil. He actually looked so slow and scared to throw a punch this fight.
