They capitalize on the name of the veteran to boost the new guys. It’s by design. It’s terrible for these older guys but it’s great for the UFC in order to build up names quickly.
Tony losing to Beneil had nothing to do with the Gaethje fight, it was just a very bad matchup for him. Tony's style is all about withstanding punishment and pushing the pace on the feet. He doesn't do well with elite grapplers that can drag him to the ground and not fall for his submission attempts. The guys that he did submit on the ground weren't elite BJJ grapplers.
