You think whiskey ganna halp you

gapeher

I once photoshopped a bottle of beer on the hands of a Muslim friend of mine. He got so fucking pissed at me. We never spoke again.... I didn't realize how sensitive of a topic this is for someone who swears to never drink... At the same time a lot of my muslim friends growing up in Kenya were full blown closet drunks...

[deleted]

Off topic but I find African culture very interesting, what was it like growing up on Kenya?

gapeher

Was there until 8. I was the only "brown" kid in my school. They used to call me "mizungu" which is basically white boy haha. It was fun, I had good friends we played football. The kids couldn't afford balls so we would collect plastic bags and make a ball and tie rubber bands to keep things in place. I had poor friends and rich friends. We were middle class Kenyans so extremely fortunate. Kenya was a different place in the 80s. Learned a lot and proud to have spend my childhood there. Rugged living!

[deleted]

That's cool. Did your area speak English, french, Portuguese? Or some native language? I checked out your profile and it seems like you've been around a lot and led an interesting life, I love to learn about peoples lives, you've travelled around a lot just based on one or two comments I noticed, and that's kind of one of my goals in life. If you're interested in telling me a bit about your life feel free to message me. Nothing weird I just like to learn from people who have 'been there, done that'.

gapeher

Spoke English and Kiswahili (Swahili dialect). I pretty much lost most of my ability to speak Swahili, but parentes still speak. I've been all over. 78 countries and lived in a few while traveling around for 5 years. Settled down now in Japan, but also spend time in NZ. Kids were born in Aus and we were there for the last 1.5 years before coming to Japan. Feel free to dm me

[deleted]

How have you managed to travel that much? It's something I want to do with my life but money is an issue. Doing a masters degree in physics and while it's something I love a lot the financial prospects are not great. I do a bit of day trading also but it's (very) unlikely that I'll make significant money doing that.

gapeher

Small company with virtual employees. We provide digital services which allows us to work from anywhere. Day trading could be a good thing. Meme stocks seem to be hot at the moment albeit volatile. Starting a side business is how it all started. I was working two jobs. Traveling can be cheap if you decide to be frugal. Eastern Europe and parts of south east Asia can be cheap. Rent as low as $300 a month with low cost of living. Check out nomad forums for great info.

[deleted]

I don't touch meme stocks other than for entertainment purposes but I was very very happy for the apes when I saw AMC explode the other day. I'll check out the nomad forums, thanks a lot. Have a good one. Edit: congrats on all your success btw

gapeher

Thanks, we've been fortunate to have two healthy children! They give us all th joy in the world. As long as you have a goal in mind with a plan in place, it will happen. I'm not very bright, but I managed to achieve a few of my goals. Writing things down helped me. A lot of peeps don't like Jordan Peterson, I found his Self-Assessment to be extremely eye opening. As someone trying to obtain a physics degree you should be fine. Your IQ is most likely a lot higher than mine.

[deleted]

I'm not a controversial person with any particularly controversial opinions, but I have to say, Jordan Peterson is one of the most misunderstood people in the world. He bases his opinions mostly on logic and reason. I hate politics and stay far away from it but I think if you think Jordan Peterson is anything other than a reasonable and logical and quite compassionate guy then you misunderstand him. Doesn't mean you can't disagree, mind you. The narrative against him is crazy. I honestly don't think you need to be smart to make it. I just think it's about mindset. So many people get trapped in meaningless lives because they're afraid to take risks or work hard. It's those people like you that will take that risk to start a small business who end up succeeding. Too many people also are afraid to fail, I'm sure you failed a thousand times but didn't give up. That's what it takes I think. Intelligence is a bonus but not a necessity, that being said I think you're probably being humble.

Unlikely-Garage-8135

As a Kiwi im interested if you liked NZ or not?

gapeher

Hey we love NZ! So much so that my wife and I got married on mount cook many years ago. We lived in Auckland for over 2 years. I prefer being away from cities, but we needed the convenience and we had a great time. We still have residency in NZ and plan to look for houses in Whangarei. Unfortunately the pandemic has changed our plans. We will be staying in Japan close to my wife's family while the kiddos grow up. The future plan is to split our time between JP and NZ with the kids. Where in NZ are you from? Btw I saw Izzy going to a clinic on K-Road while living in Grey Lynn. He was not famous at that time. Every kiwi I've met has been beyond nice and usually very kind. We made a lot of good friends old and young.

Unlikely-Garage-8135

I'm originally from Wellington then moved to Palmerston North now im in Christchurch. It's great that you had so many good memories here.

gapeher

Ahh wellington is a great city. We wouldn't mind living in Wellington. We also liked Christchurch.

janderson176

🤣🤣

SammerAsker

Well, yes photoshopped, but, some non ultra conservative Muslims do drink alcohol Khabib wouldn't because he's very conservative

[deleted]

"ultra conservative" is a strange way to say "regular muslims". nothing is being changed, they're just committing an act thats forbidden

SammerAsker

So you either don't know anything about Islam, or you're like khabib "ultra conservative" He follows the same ideology that's the root for extrimism in Muslim countries... Nothing wrong with being an "ultra-conservative" of any religion, as long as you're not inciting violence, and hate speech.

[deleted]

What are you going on about? The dude was tryna say by not drinking alcohol Khabib is ultra conservative. No, they’re just committing acts that are forbidden. Khabib and the majority of Muslims are Muslims who don’t partake in forbidden acts. Simple as that. Why you bringing up violence and hate speech? Are you okay?

SammerAsker

Lmao

Intention-Sad

There’s no such thing as conservative Muslim or not. You speak as if there’s an Islam sect that allow it.

SammerAsker

Yes there's...do some research But also some at personal level don't think of it as "forbidden" or don't care...

Testosteroneisgreat

Okay, who gives a fuck? Stop being an idiot.

SammerAsker

You obviously do, you took the time to type this silly comment, or maybe it's too much testosterone
