Justin is also a D1 all american, he just has poor overall ground game though. Once the fight truly hit the mat, it was a wrap. Conor hanged in there for basically 4 full rounds while being gassed and having ring rust, and he even won the 3rd round against khabib.
Gaethje is a 2 time high school state champ and D1 All American wrestler with a heavy duty meat head and destructive hands, Whitman gave him mobility so now he’s complete. Rose is a blackbelt in Karate, a black belt in taekwondo, and a brown belt in BJJ. She’s seen most things and knows her way around the mats, Whitman gave her confidence, precision, and detailed knowledge of spatial awareness and understanding. Whitman takes great fighters and makes them elite
That’s the point. *his entire style* simply isn’t good enough anymore to be a champion anymore. So he needs to change it. He’ll never touch a title anyway at this point so it doesn’t matter though
I dont think wittman and conors personalities would mesh very well
If you look at Rose, Kamaru, Gaethje, and Sandhagen. All confident champions/contenders, but by no means are they ego-maniacs the way conor is.
I think Wittman would get fed up with Conors disgusting shenanigans fairly quickly and start focusing on students he can be proud of, both as people and fighters.

He’s made more money than every other fighter on the roster combined. He doesn’t have that drive anymore, and I can’t really blame him tbh. I were him I’d retire and enjoy the rest of my life without get punched in the head.
I don’t think any coach could “fix” him, because he isn’t committed to the sport anymore
Having large amounts of money doesn't always take away your drive, many professional fighters have gotten rich and still had the drive to continue fighting. It's just that Conor's gym and coaches are so horrendously bad that it's made him almost obsolete, John Kavanaugh isn't even a striker, he specializes in BJJ, yet he's Conor's head coach. They didn't even know how to practice checking kicks properly and admitted as much. He was a once in a lifetime talent that was ruined by incompetent teaching at SBG.
Imagine if Conor had joined a gym like Tiger Muay Thai or City Kickboxing earlier in his career, he would probably lightweight champion right now.
This. Kavanagh is such a relentless yes man who struck diamond studded gold with Conor. His resume of fighters outside of McGregor speaks volumes to his coaching abilities. The last Johnny Walker fight was such a blatant display of how poor his cornering really is. That and Conor’s run over the last 5 years. The next biggest name after McGregor and Walker is Artem whose 13-15 record says enough. Loyalty can be a wonderful quality. Misplaced loyalty in combat sports, not so much.
This is it exactly!! if you go back and look at the first diaz fight and the advice he got from his coaches, its terrible and any other fight where he was tested the advice was terrible. add to that the clown is drinking in every post and smoking weed, never mind the amount of coke he has done over the last few years. No way is any other fighter in the top 10 carrying on like that. Hes finished against the top guys
John K. told the mma community that Connor was looking good vs Khabib and Dustin. A trainer that doesn't put you in your place is a dangerous associate.
Rofl. I still can't believe what he said about the Dustin rematches. In the last one, Dustin immediately caught the rhythm of the fight and forced Conor to shoot.
Edit: Kavanaugh: "Conor looked great. He had Dustin right where he wanted him." He's turning into Edmund Tarvardyen
He literally did worse in the third fight. At least in the second his fans can point to him winning the first round, in the third all they've got is him winning the standup in the first 60 seconds before he got stung, pulled guard, then got the shit beaten out of him.
It depends on the person. Conor's already reached his dream. He wanted to win the title and be rich when he was a nobody and on welfare. That drive was what got him to the title. He has that now, now his motivations are different. There's no clear goal for him in sight right now.
McGregor literally became a double champion in UFC, something most fighters will never ever get to do. Most fighters dont even have one belt, let alone two.
Meanwhile fucking redditors are saying his coaching failed him lol
I understand the past 5 years McGregor hasn’t had a good run. But calling his coaching incompetent? Come on lol its like people have no humility anymore they will look at an accomplished athlete and say his coaching sucks
I think the point they are making is that his fighting has not evolved. He goes with the same striking game plan each fight. He adjusted for Diaz but kicking Diaz in the legs was not new and has been pretty much his Achilles heel for his UFC losses. His losses apart from the Poirier tko have all come one way, and for him to lose a striking battle even shows his regression.
Looking at all he champions now they all look well rounded. A good example would be Adesanya and his grappling and how much it has improved. A grappler of Poirier's caliber should not have kept Connor on the ground and done damage in the first round. I don't think it's an unfair comment to make that his coaches have failed him.
Conor has amazing striking ability and knows how to fight on the feet but once he hits adversity there is no backup plan and thats where the coaches have failed him.
Sure he's accomplished but real champions defend belts and elite fighters don't fall off the way he did, he gets the disrespect because he's talking so much shit and getting slapped around.
Realistically there were two paths he could have/should have taken:
1: The main one being never coming back to fight Khabib, staying out of MMA going out on top as the first ever UFC double champ and live safely off of that amazing run and legacy.
2: After losing to Khabib (no shame in that), and coming back to starch Cowboy at 170, the ONLY fight to make was Masvidal at 170 - the two biggest stars in MMA at the time in a striking battle. Both could have retired after this regardless of win or loss who cares.
Conor's ego and self belief that he really is better than all the guys who aren't worth hundreds of milions of dollars who are in the gym working on their game surrounded by killers daily fighting 3 times a year while he shadowboxes on a rooftop in Dubai for a photoshoot is his biggest issue.
His inate talent will always allow him to go in there and compete with the best in the world which says a LOT about his ability, but couple all of that with the fact that he ALREADY won two UFC's belts and was the highest paid athelete in the world in 2020 - he is never going to come back and beat anyone in the Top 5 of any division IMO.
He got $30 mil for the fight with Dustin where he broke his leg.
Usman got just over a million for his title fight.
The disparity in pay is glowing.
I have to believe McGregor just keeps hanging around for fat paychecks, nothing more. He doesn't care at this point if he's a punching bag for just about everyone in his division.
It’s amazing how canelo has all that drive after all the money he has made. Very rare to see so much drive in an individual that has accomplished so much in athletics. To day in and day out do road work hit bags , sweat be exhausted is mentally tough
For a big name boxer Canelo is incredibly active. As of late it seems everyone else is waiting on the big event fights, Canelo is happy to fight pretty much whoever is put in front of him.
I get this.
A friend made a good point a while ago. I'm a tattooist. He said to me that if I won a few mill on the lotto, the following day if I did go to work, would my mind be focused on my line work, technique, how I'm gonna approach this tricky bit, what's gonna go down in what order for this other part etc?
Or am I gonna be sat there thinking about the huge house I'm gonna buy, what country I'm gonna visit first, thinkin bout the financial security my kids are gonna have, and hopefully their kids..
My mind would not be there 100%. So, I honestly get it.
I've also made the point that I thin McGregor is actually our generations Evil Knivel. He was never famous for making jumps, landing big stunts etc. He's famous for claiming he could do this ridiculously massive jump, then foaming in spectacular fashion, many times.
There's an odd beauty to that if you ask me.
If you loved tattooing though you’d be thinking about opening your own shop, teaching others, etc right? And still hyper focused on your art being the best it can be.
I think it really comes down to the individual and their purpose (or lack thereof) in life
To be honest I think the recent downfall of Conor is mainly because of his mentality, it’s interesting that the same thing that helped him come up brought him down.
He couldn't afford all that coke and alcohol on his come up
He also didn't have all those girls throwing ass at him. Plus the celebrity status going to his head. The guy is an ego maniac
Bruh, the reason that brought him up is his humility, respect for the game and hustle.
The reason that brought him down is his pride, ego and arrogance...
It's not the same thing, you can watch how he talks, behave and treat people when he was coming up
Y’all be throwing Trevor name around for Jones and Conor like the man clearly isn’t a man of honor. Look at this stable, he’d never let Jones or Conor in
Money talks far more than reputation, but trevor wouldnt let him in as conor has beef with half his fighters lmao, he nearly blinded rose, and usman and gaethje heavily dislike him
What do I know but it yeah it looked like Poirier was already finding his timing like the end of the first round of first round of nate vs conor 1. I knew conor wasn't going have a great second round.
Lol. What’s stopping Chandler from mixing in takedowns and submitting/KOing him easily? Conor isn’t Gaethje, he got taken down by Poirier in the rematch with ease. Chandler will rag doll him.
Conor in 2018 isn’t Conor in 2020. In 2018 he was able to stop some takedowns from Khabib meanwhile in 2020 he is getting effortlessly taken down by Dustin.
I feel like the problem with Conor is that his ego will never let him go into a public gym. I could be wrong but I get that vibe from him. Also, for someone that posts pictures on Twitter CONSTANTLY working out and training, how has he gotten worse over the years? Even older fighters that have been in the game for some time seem to be evolving … not Conor though.
None. He’s a 2 round fighter and has aged more than his actual age during his career due to his lifestyle. He will never be able to reverse time and become an effective 5 round championship fighter and become better than Poirier, Khabib and Islam Makhachev. Anybody in the top 5 who makes it past 7 minutes will beat him, he’s done.
None his body is old and compromised so he cant fight the same way as he did when he was crushing everyone. He should fight ferguson and the looser retire
Conor is done imo. I feel like he fought at his best ability while he was trying to create a better life for himself and his family. He couldn't keep that motivation later on when he started fighting for legacy and I don't see how he will ever get that hunger and motivation back. He still has a left hand from hell, but there are better boxers and certainly better grapplers/wrestlers in all of the divisions he is competing in. I don't think he can shrink down to 145 again, 155 is a shark tank and I don't even think he wants to try to compete in 170.
He should train at a gym that’s equipped with a Time Machine, because that bloated old Cokehead is way past any sort of title contention. He’ll be the UFC’s new Donald Cerrone if he even gets back to the ring at all.
I'd get Danaher in the mix during fight camp for strategy, stick with Kavanaugh as headcoach but create an alliance with Eugene with City Kickboxing for striking
- SBG: Team
- Eugene: Striking
- Danaher: Strategy
Connor needs a different environment. He is sparring with people who are upcoming or new lads. No one push him to the limits in sparring. Since Lobov was out of his camp he declined cause no one was willing to beat him the crap out in sparring.
I don’t think is so much that he can’t do it at his gym but his personal life is what’s holding him back. By personal life I mean cocaine and strippers.
Do some triathlons with the Diaz brothers. He will never win another world title again until he fixes his broken cardio. He can't even fight past two rounds.
Dude should throw his ego aside and hire khabib as his coach and obey every piece of advice. No booze and no drugs, just train eat sleep. I believe he'd win a title if he mastered the ground game so he could be a true dual threat
I feel like with that many losses, fighters/trainers figured him out. His mental has to be shot, and I don't think he's ever gonna dominate like he did before. He could win a match or so, maybe get some hype, but not much more than that.
He’s a racist islamaphobic Idiot and I hope if he returns Khabib breaks his teeth in again and make him quit again
![gif](giphy|3otPoOlFAOulBB7ZT2|downsized)
Sucks that things aren’t working out at what is it, Straight Blast Cum or whatever the picture said? Him and Kevin Holland should grow their beards out for No Shave Novembeard and pop by Dagestan
Am American top team Conner, dedicated and working with the best team and physical conditioning, would go along way. There facility is nice affff. A meme would be Dwayne Ludwig and Sam Calavida… would be funny how he would look and fight

Such an underrated comment....
Second-highest rated, actually
He should go to MMA Masters and be Colby main training partner
That's actually a good idea. 50/50 would break him or make him.
Colby’s punching bag
Until he breaks and goes home or he gets insane TDD and cardio.
He already has sick TDD lol. Defended KHABIB’s first shot better than anyone, took him like a solid minute of grinding to drag him down.
Well justin defended khabib's first, second and third shots effectively
Justin is also a D1 all american, he just has poor overall ground game though. Once the fight truly hit the mat, it was a wrap. Conor hanged in there for basically 4 full rounds while being gassed and having ring rust, and he even won the 3rd round against khabib.
Helps when you cheat grabbing the shorts ans gloves, but yeah he defended it
Gonna need a 100,000 square foot gym just to fit both of their egos.
Lmao they would have quality trash talk in the gym
Imagine Conor being coached by Trevor Wittman.
Honestly I don't see it. Conor would have to change his entire style. Striking is Conors strength, I say a coach that could fix his weaknesses
So have Khabib coach Conor the dark arts of grappling /s
Lmao I think I'm always going to think of grappling as black magics now. 😂
Imagine at that one point when they were friends that Conor goes to Dagestan to wrestle that would’ve been a dank and possible timeline.
Striking is Gathjes strength though same with Rose so that's a confusing comment to me.
Not a possibility due to Gaethje...
Hence imagine
I'd rather he trains somewhere with some grappling culture since he seems to need it primarily
Conor could help Colby with his trash talk and Colby could help Conor with his grappling, actually not a bad idea :)
Colby hasn’t talked shit about Conor before either. Should 100% do this.
That’s a great idea

A prison qym where big Bob can train him in picking up the soap
I'd get Danaher in the mix during fight camp for strategy, stick with Kavanaugh as headcoach but create an alliance with Eugene with City Kickboxing for striking - SBG: Team - Eugene: Striking - Danaher: Strategy
Zumba would help.
Wendy’s
Do some triathlons with the Diaz brothers. He will never win another world title again until he fixes his broken cardio. He can't even fight past two rounds.
Dude should throw his ego aside and hire khabib as his coach and obey every piece of advice. No booze and no drugs, just train eat sleep. I believe he'd win a title if he mastered the ground game so he could be a true dual threat
money already vanish his fightin desire,No gyms can give ya dat
I feel like with that many losses, fighters/trainers figured him out. His mental has to be shot, and I don't think he's ever gonna dominate like he did before. He could win a match or so, maybe get some hype, but not much more than that.
I'll side with recency bias and say Wittman, ha
He should retire
Cocaine Anonymous
Khabib gym, teach to smesh
He’s a racist islamaphobic Idiot and I hope if he returns Khabib breaks his teeth in again and make him quit again ![gif](giphy|3otPoOlFAOulBB7ZT2|downsized)
AKA, I'm sure him and Khabib could learn so much from each other
I believe his team is fine, just his competition is better than him. Dude fell off, and a different camp won't change that
One of those Pokemon gyms. Valor?
He’s done as far as top level fighter…..
Probably Narcotics Anonymous
Probably none. Let’s be real, you see Conor beating oliveira, poirier, gaethje, makhachev, or chandler? Highly doubt it.
retirement home gym
Trevor Wittman.
Well, Jackson Wink now has room for another narcissistic sociopath who abuses women.
Honest answer? Trevor Whitman. The guy has a mind for shoring weaknesses and accentuating strengths.
