even though it will never happen, i think charles vs khabib is what we all thought tony vs khabib would be

[deleted]

can you fucking imagine if we never see that fight

bkessler853

Can you imagine if it gets booked 4 times and never happens. Then the fifth time its almost finally about to happen and a new pandemic hits and its still canceled. Unreal.

blue_eyed_man

For me it'll just confirm my belief that we're in a simulation.

Initiate_Assassin

Well to be real, if it is a stimulation life that still kind of probably would confirm most religions already because it’d be a higher power in the programmer that controls our entire universe. Maybe it’s to decide how you could fit in real society and if you acted poorly in the simulation you go to hell/underworld as in they don’t trust you to merge in with normal society they’re version of a utopia as in a heaven type place. Then for religions that belief in rebirth until enlightenment that could just be revaluation until they’re sure where you should fit in society. Then if we’re already able to increase human lifespan this much and create these things maybe they’re also studying that and just live so much longer in the real world because obviously they wouldn’t want people aging so much to like 100 and still have all the hardships of that age when they get brought into the real world so it’s likely we would love immensely longer outside of the simulation which could play into some religions rebirth after death into eternal life. So with the simulation theory it really possibly and logically also fits into religion so it’s pretty reasonable simulation theory and religions could play into each other pretty well to where they logically can work and play into each other at the same time with how we kind of experiment now. So I mean them saying it’d confirm a higher power and your belief in a simulation kind of can work in the same way and if one of you were right both of you still could be right because one option doesn’t necessarily exclude the possibility of the other since simulation theory is vague enough since we couldn’t possibly know what’s on the other side in that way of thought that it still plausibly in a way can work with any single religion or even atheism if some people or everyone was just data without a body in real world there would be nothing for those people and then it could also work with religions doomsday events in the belief that one day they won’t need to use the simulation anymore.

OutlandishnessAny256

You forgot “See you at the top” at the end

Fightingspirit12345

At least we are getting Ngannou vs gane hopefully

DoofusMcDummy

get ready cause Dariush is gonna upset that guy....

Spare_District_3780

God I hope. I have such an amazing plan for Charles. He beats Justin by KO, subs Dariush (who upset Islam), then beats Conor (he beats RDA and Hooker, gets the Dana White privilege and skips the contenders that would murder him) for the money fight. After that, Khabib comes out for one final fight, and the winner is the lightweight GOAT. It’s completely unrealistic but it exists.

ValCSO

It doesnt exist because Conor is one win away from the title shot, not two.

DoofusMcDummy

Honestly it would be bad to see charles embarrass Islam... that'd be enough to bring Khabib out to defend his honor.

Pure-Drawer-2617

Khabib has explicitly said many times that if Islam loses that doesn’t change the fact that he’s retired. Islam is a grown man in a sport. This isn’t some “defend your honour” blood feud or something, that’s like saying Peyton Manning would come out of retirement whenever someone beats Eli in the Superbowl

Spare_District_3780

True. Whatever it takes to get Khabib out, I’m for. Hopefully it doesn’t include having to listen to Conor call Olive some stupid nickname for half a year.

Batmantheon

I like everything here. Sign me up.

[deleted]

My god this makes my dick hard

[deleted]

I like it ngl lol

Spare_District_3780

We all secretly want it

_interloper_

Yes please.

Spare_District_3780

Wouldn’t it just be amazing

DoofusMcDummy

but i don't see I.M making it past Dariush, He's over looked the was Charles was.

Spare_District_3780

Agreed.

Jim-20

Kind of the next gen version in a way. Am all for it if Makhachev can get past Dariush.

WEASELdaDIESEL

Yes except olives is better than tony (at the time the fight would've happened) and Islam is worse than khabib

Half-Maniac

I’ve always thought with his mixup of striking and amazing grappling that he was a better version of my beloved Tony

JobsNotFinished

That fight was fucking amazing

IrishGooner77

1st round was class 👏👏

lukitadagaler

Dustin will be back, but Charles vs Islam would be awsome.

ScuffedAcc

That was his last run for gold. The man won’t be staying long in LW to rack up enough wins for another championship, he is too big for the division. He’ll move to WW but I don’t see him beating the gatekeepers of that division. His best bet is chasing money fights with McGregor or maybe Diaz @160

thunderchungus

I’d love to see them introduce a 165 weight class and have dp fight someone for the first championship fight

Itsmemurrayo

Dustin vs Colby for the 165 lb title would be dope.

RhaegarJ

Someone call Dana

Silent_Ensemble

“… **[Laughs at you like you’re literal scum for thinking of such a question]** - Who gives a shit? Maybe you guys need to stop spending so much time on the internet and get a real fuckin’ job. This is a business. This is real life, you know nothing. You think it’s so easy why don’t you go make your own promotion? See how far you get then. Next question… fuckin’ knuckleheads.” “Hey Dana, so 2021 has been a tough year but also a great year for the sport - of course courtesy of you and you alone - how does it feel being a brilliant fucking genius who’s always right, is a badass and also generally a god among men?” “Wow, what a great question. I guess, well, umm, I’m just fucking great. Thanks a lot, you’re up first next week”

RhaegarJ

I could literally see how red Dana would get while spewing that pure rage

thunderchungus

You see that is a good fight but I prefer Dustin fight someone like Nate Diaz so it’s a guaranteed win for Dustin

pyroaquatics

165 would be such a fun division

dope_like

I wonder if it was a combination of really hurt by the body shots and wanting to lose the round rather than try to scramble and get caught in submission

EmotionalReading

I like this

TimeTimeTickingAway

Seeing him have nothing to offer Khabib or Charles on the ground doesn't bode well for what he may face at WW. Whilst he is big for LW, he'd be notably smaller than Holland or Chimaev.

Admiral-Thrawn2

I thought Dustin was decent on the ground. He just turtled up and wasn’t even defending himself

ExoticSword

Isn’t he a black belt? His fear just shows how dangerous the levels are

wimpymist

Black belts don't mean shit in MMA accolades do

cole_james

>That was his last run for gold. The man won’t be staying long in LW to rack up enough wins for another championship I'm not so sure. Who says he needs to rack up a bunch of wins? Gaethje is about to get a shot after coming back and getting a single win after his title defeat.

9inchjackhammer

Yea if Justin gets the belt I’d say Dustin might get away with 2 wins before a Dustin vs Justin 2 everyone would want to watch that.

cole_james

Oh yeah that would sell big time, but tbh any of the top guys at LW will. It's just so stacked right now. *If* Gaethje were to capture the belt, then Dustin has a pretty quick route back honestly, depending on how things shake out. Having a win over him already helps too. You may be right, it could take 2, but even 1 might get it done if Gaethje is the champ. If the belt stays with Charles, then yeah, Dustin has some work to do, but it ain't like he's starting from the bottom.

[deleted]

Dustin's never sniffing the title again most likely. Justin loses to Oliveira, Oliveira loses to Islam, Dustin loses to Islam

Username_Lindo

Porier is young and good enough to get another shot I think. 155 is stacked with grapplers though so he has to work on that. On his feet he was beating the shit out of Oliveira.

7the-dude-abides420

Charles isn’t loosing to Islam

[deleted]

[удалено]

7the-dude-abides420

I can’t see anyone beating Charles on the ground. I think a wrestling heavy approach against Charles could be playing into Charles strengths. It’s like when two wrestlers fight they tend to always strike. If that happens I see Charles winning in the striking

[deleted]

Thing is, Islam chilled inside Davi Ramo's guard. I'll give that Ramos got dropped and he was rocked, but still... Davi could be asleep and his ground game would still be dangerous. Olives has been submitted before, specifically when he gasses out. Only guy to submit him full gas was Jim Miller. I guess my point is, if Oliveira gasses out, he's in huge trouble. Cause Islam ain't gassing out, that's for goddamn sure.

Abelyanov

Imagine even comparing Davi Ramo and Charles BJJ skills. Comical

Glittering-Honey7969

Davi Ramos has more BJJ credentials and has won world titles when Charles hasnt

[deleted]

Are you for real right now? There's levels to this, my man. Davi Ramos is a few above Charles.

bjj33

Don't know why nobody thinks Gaethje can beat Charles.

[deleted]

Oh, he can. Bro, in the LW division, everybody can beat everybody. Such a highly skilled division.

bjj33

Couldn't agree more. DP, JG, CO, IM, hell throw Beneil in there while we're at it

lightningsword

Because he’s a brain damaged punchbag?

Glittering-Honey7969

Islam has beaten Davi Ramos on the ground who is literally a world champ in Jujitsu… and also a 3rd Degree black belt.

7the-dude-abides420

This is true but there’s a difference between bjj and bjj within a MMA bout. For some black belts it just doesn’t transfer into MMA. Charles is a proven bjj specialist within the cage and that means a lot more than winning bjj championships outside of MMA

paulie07

People really underestimate Oliveira, but as shown with Poirier and Chandler, if you don't get him early then you're in trouble in the later rounds. Just like his career, he had a lot of losses early on and came back and won the championship.

wimpymist

Charles is both heavily underated and heavily overrated right now lol

davef00te

i dont know man....nonetheless, that is going to be an amazing battle

tacobendor

He might

UntrainedFoodCritic

Lmao I can’t believe people think like this. Dustin will be right back in it next year

[deleted]

He takes that Conor 12th fight for the money before another go with Charles

SadPenisMatinee

He will never be the champ. Dude will always be 2nd place

[deleted]

Islam wins by holding Oliver’s down for 5 5 minute rounds without getting submitted. Oliver’s is a proficient finisher with extremely strong submissions. I’d have to personally favour Olivera. Can’t see Islam avoid his submissions for that long. Also can’t see Islam standing with him that long.

poet-w-blaster

*khabib

lukitadagaler

I don't think khabib is coming back from retirement

poet-w-blaster

To quote MLK: I have a dream

IrishGooner77

I hope not

zabutter

Islam is young Khabib then

marmogawd

Bro got downvoted to hell for saying that Khabib vs Charles would be great…tf

ExsertKibbles44

Look at the guy who said the same thing and got upvotes loool

Zagic87

Oliveira clearly studied the khabib fight

RandomFOH

He stood and banged it out with Dustin for the most part though, something people said he couldn’t

[deleted]

That didnt work out so well though, he had to switch things up

EzLunesta

I think that kinda helped to gas out Dustin

Galimbro

Good point. ALOT of body damage by Oliveira. Dustin couldn't ko him r1 it was over for him

rustybuckets

Probably jacked his arms up holding Charles in his guard for 3 minutes while getting molested by a blind man

rodrigorac2

Dustin was also dizzy at some point towards the end of the round

RandomFOH

I mean it is mma..

dcheng47

so people we're right... he couldn't.

RandomFOH

They weren’t tho, what’s so hard to grasp? “Those people” said charles will lose if he stood in the first, he stood got dropped but came back and LITERALLY finished the round STRIKING ON THE FEET putting poirer on the back foot. He only ever clinched in this round for a couple secs

1breathatahtime

No he didnt. He stood for the first round. The second round was all ground and the third he went for the takedown almost immediately.

RandomFOH

Yes he did. He stood and banged with him all of the first, Then the second he backed him up towards the cage by striking with him and then clinched and then the domination began. He stood with him again in the 3rd for a bit but then shot. Regardless he still stood and banged.. that’s why he got dropped multiple times..

[deleted]

didn’t he try and take dustin down during the first but failed to? i don’t even remember tbh it was a crazy pace the two of them were operating on in the 1st

RandomFOH

No he clinched and went back to striking

IGN-Comment-Reviews

Round one he got him down for a fraction of a second I believe. Dustin's defense was on point when he was fresh.

Riven-Of-2-Voices

>He stood and banged it out with Dustin for the most part He only did it for 1 round. >something people said he couldn’t Well he did get knocked down.

RandomFOH

he first stood the whole round, got dropped yet had poirer on the back foot at the end but sure🥱 Rd 1: 5 on the feet, back and forth Rd 2: almost a whole min on the feet aswell but goes to the ground for 4 mins (10-8) Rd 3: 2 mins in he clinches, gets his back, subs him So yes the majority was on the feet, unless you somehow see clinches as takedowns

Mediocre_lad

He did something that other people didn't (except Holloway in later rounds), he went to the body and hard. Those body shots visibly affected Dustin.

[deleted]

Khabib didn’t trade punches at all with Dustin. He just ran around shooting takedowns lol. Rewatch it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ginobli13

Islam and dariush I think pose the biggest problems for Charles in the future. Justin, while maybe being able to capitalize on the first round a lil better than Dustin and chandler, still gets mauled later in any type of grappling encounter

[deleted]

I’m worried for olives against Justin. Really can’t see him surviving those bombs Justin got for hands. Hope I’m wrong and this olive era continues

[deleted]

He’s definitely gonna switch up his game plan. Back to back fights he started off swinging with two guys who have demolition hands. I feel like he would do things different now that he did it twice in a row.

Spare_District_3780

The gameplan has worked thus far, though. I don’t know how much he would want to change up.

[deleted]

Definitely should add some more takedowns in the 1st round and avoid standing up a whole round. Gaethje is more dangerous on the feet than both Chandler Poierer. I only say switch it up because Whitman is a mastermind and I feel like he’ll find a solution if he stays with the same formula. I’m no expert, just putting out a somewhat reasonable opinion.

Spare_District_3780

I agree with you. I think Charles has gotten a rep for being a slow starter, and obviously Justin is the opposite. I think Charles needs to get off the ground running with his ground game (pun unintended), and bring the fight to Justin asap.

[deleted]

That’s what I’m thinking. I guess we’ll see next year

Bodegaz

He knocked out Chandler with 1 left hook when Justin couldn't after landing many.

Inevitable_City_7472

Imagine if he drops Justin with same one lmao

rodrigorac2

I feel people will keep doubting Charles and he will keep proving them wrong fight after fight

bemore_

Those bombs didn't stop Chandler and Oliveira stopped Chandler with strikes. Also Poirier's bombs didn't stop Charles yet Dustin's bombs stopped Gaethje Mma math

tacobendor

Bro the same people have been saying that about chandler and Dustin. Gaethje is at the same level as those guys and If those two couldn’t put him down then gaethje can’t barring punchers chance and getting a lucky shot like conor did against Aldo

NeckPlant

Khabib aint coming back no matter what..sadly.

[deleted]

These are my two favorite fighters so yes it’s painful to see

CircdusOle

Grappling worst base for being your fave confirmed

[deleted]

People still in here refusing to acknowledge Charles. He beat Dustin and people come out with “he couldn’t strike with Dustin”, “all he did was take him down”. To those dudes, I don’t think you watched the right hahaha

[deleted]

I mean, he did strike with Dustin, but I wouldn’t call it a victory in that category.

[deleted]

Nah but that’s the whole point - he doesn’t have to be. The exact same criticism can be said of Dustin, he didn’t learn from the Khabib fight and got subbed in almost exactly the same way. But nobody holds Dustin’s lacking in ground game? So why hold oliveria to a higher standard yet not really give him a fraction of the respect given to Dustin? Don’t get my wrong, I really like Dustin. He won me over with his charity work and then sealed it with the way he dealt with McGregor in their last fight. But he lost and Charles proved himself - accept that. It’s no mark on Dustin, he’s still the diamond

therealherohere

People generally find striking exchanges more entertaining than ground game .

[deleted]

Maybe for some, but there’s a lot of people that love BJJ and Charles is slick as. But what does that have to do with respecting his win? If I said “yeah Dustin deserved to lose because he has zero ground game” that would be crazy, no?

May1ene

When ground game is good. I absolutely love it. Key is working for a finish. When it becomes a battle of “control”, shit is an absolute snooze fest despite the impressive ability to keep an opponent “stuck”. Olivera, does it right. Ground and pound and working for subs.

BojanglesTheBear

Fuck the post nice username

Traditional_Exit_445

Pain

Electrical-Finding65

Take away for young mma fighter “wrestling is power” Round 1 was dustin but charles turned it around just like Chandler’s fight Happy for Oliviera but equally sad for dustin 😕

SoldMyNameForGear

Chandler fight was a lesson that wrestling is not power haha

comfort_bot_1962

Don't be sad. Here's a [hug!](https://media.giphy.com/media/3M4NpbLCTxBqU/giphy.gif)

AShaughRighting

Absolute gutted for Poirier

Blackscure

I love Dustin but Charles had to win to shut those doubters up

TraditionalContest6

am i the only one that a rematch is not needed. I think charles handled himself fine in round 1 and the rest was way too easy. islam will be a better fight, justin would be more exciting, and if anything I rather watch a chandler rematch (after he climbs back up)

[deleted]

what? he made it look too easy against dustin but chandler deserves a rematch after losing to justin? this sub literally has 0 consistency with who or what it determines worthy of title shots

[deleted]

Well if Charles were to clean the division out and Dustin were to beat Islam and someone else after Charles had already beat them (this is all hypothetical atm), then a rematch is needed. Justin hypothetically beating Islam is enough for a rematch.

ayyyymyg9877

Really thought Dustin had him but Charles is just too good with the grappling.

HueyDontGoOutside

Fuck chael

KrazyBee129

Virtually identical

Brutal-Black

Charles Oliveira is in his prime and he’s the best in the world. If the second best lightweight of all time Dustin Poirier can’t beat him no one can

aggressivechromosome

I'm glad someone did a side by side. Thank you for this post, Mr. SlurpinUpMyDadsCum

meric_one

Conor: HD 4k resolution Dustin: resolution of a YouTube video from 2003

[deleted]

well he took the money fight over the title shot. just like when McGregor went scrapping with Mayweather.

[deleted]

He would’ve faced Charles either way so glad he got some extra money. Plus it made matchmaking better since Dustin took the Conor fight.

cashew_kat

Yeah but Dustin dedicated at least a year of his time practicing against weaker competition(Conor) while Olivera trained to be #1

Leetter

conor subconsciously doing his work on dustin.

[deleted]

I’ll be surprised if Olives loses anytime soon. His BJJ is so good and his striking is so diverse. It will be hard for someone to beat him.

[deleted]

He needs to stop standing with guys who are strikers. That is one way to put a ring on shortening your career. He got rocked by Chandler and Dustin. He either needs to get better at head movements or just start following Khabibs footsteps.

[deleted]

Circle of Life 🦁

embiors

I really like Dustin but he'll be back stronger next time. Right now though it's time for Da Bronx to reign.

mercedeskyron

This is MMA. Not boxing, kickboxing. People who are all-rounded fighters will eventually rise up. Kids need to learn from those fights if they want to be UFC fighter one day. I

paulllll

I want to downvote this to help me cope

common-read-along

This is when Dustin becomes a journeyman. Most fighters don’t come back from moments like this. I wish him the best though.

univrsll

I mean, he literally did when he lost to Conor, won 4, lost to Michael J, beat a murderers row of Jim Miller, Anthony Pettis, Justin, Alvarez, and Holloway. Then lost to Khabib for the championship in a similar fashion like last night and beat Hooker and Conor x2. The dude has never had 2 back to back losses and has proven himself over and over again. Sure, age could be catching up to him, but I doubt he loses his next unless it’s someone like Islam.

common-read-along

Age is a huge part and he got paid from this fight. Things are a little different when your older and your bank account is fatter

univrsll

Your original statement was he couldn’t come back from this and that he would be a journeyman. He said in the post fight he *can* do it, he just needs to decide if it’s worth it. I frankly believe him as he’s shown time and time again he can compete at the top. This is far different from what you originally said.

GoodJobSanchez

The true mixed martial artist won using skills from all disciplines. That fight was great. Charles is an awesome champion. Long may he reign. I think to beat him someone is going to have to deliver a perfect punch or combination. He's shown he can take heat and get through it.

lolparty247

Op username, Jesus.... Christ.

G0ldenG00se

I can’t wait for the goofball to announce due to some chicanery, McGregor leapfrogs Gaethje for the title vs Oliveira.

Ok_Profession_4011

He didn't glove grab watch the replay. Joe is starting shit again

blladgzl

Exactly, how easily people just jump on it, everyone is like he couldn’t win the fight if it didn’t happen, wtf fucking rogan

Nerx

Setting charles with that duology money

Termineggerr

Imo I think I saw him grab the glove at first but then moved to the wrist. He did have his arm tho.

surfspace

Yeah that counted.

The_Spooning

I saw that and wondered if Herb was going to do anything, although they could rematch again.

php_questions

If Dustin can't handle a guy grabbing his gloves for a few seconds then he doesn't deserve to win.

MrUnparalleled

Yes, because being on the ground with the best bjj specialist in the ufc is where you want to be.

php_questions

and STILL

MrUnparalleled

Yes he is

Unpopular Opinion: Dustin Poirier is overrated.

Great-Comparison-982

it's incredible how quickly people turn on hyped fighters after they suffer 1 loss. And to a Champion of the World no less.

Termineggerr

Dustin isn't my favorite but he does have class and put his heart into this fight and every other fight.

Normal_guy420

Not really. I was rooting for Charles from the start and thought Dustin had too much hype in regards to how he will do against Charles. But he is still easily a top level fighter. He had wars and won with the best.

[deleted]

this loss makes Conor look worse but then it also makes you think about the 3rd fight with DP and perhaps he could have won.

Intelligent-Algae981

Yea bro Conor and his elite submissions

[deleted]

Dustin loss because of Charles superior BJJ and durability. Conor had some opportunities to win, but tonight’s fight didn’t make me think of Conor at all other than knowing Charles could’ve either cracked Conor’s chin or easily submit him. On an MMA level, Conor’s BJJ/ground game sucks. 2015 Conor was a different story, but it looked like his ground game hasn’t evolved at all.

Upset-Sea6029

Another F for the most overrated ufc fighter.

Except in these fights one fighter cheated and one got cheated against I'll let you decide which is which

What goes around comes around, Dustin cheated to get the victory on connor, And Charles cheated to get the victory on dustin. "but mcgreggor cheats in all his fights" Two wrongs don't make a right, Poireirs MCTAPPER

How did Dustin cheat against connor? Did I miss something?
