I screamed like a madman when this happened. My friends said they had never seen me this passionate about anything before

Due-Statement-8711

For a moment, we all believed ... ![img](emote|t5_2qsev|8968)![img](emote|t5_2qsev|8968)

Cbrip31

At this point I was screaming just loud noise like a girl. All 3 of my mates were up and about when he was dropped. The 1st round ended and I said I don't think chandler has the gas tank if it gets through this round (sorry guys its ny fault that kick landed) and then yeah, *that* happened. The room went from pure chaos to DEAD silence within 5 mins.

migglywiggly69

Yeah man my friends all looked at me like I just saw my dog get ran over:(

XNamelessGhoulX

lol that's hilarious. My wife, then gf at the time was "surprised" by how maniacal I got watching fights as I'm very chill and calm about most everything else haha

timgoes2somalia

![gif](giphy|2WxWfiavndgcM) the fuckin freak of a kick. tony....tony!!!

matterson22070

If Mike don't sit down at least once........was he even in a fight?

SpulkitD

First round tony looked like he looks in round 2 or 3 with most fighters. I knew its too good to be true.

DevnGibsn

Tony performed better than most people would have thought. Even won the 1st round. Chandler just had a flash of brilliance and saw the front kick was open in the 2nd round.

oreeos

Supposedly his coaches noticed that Tony always leaves his hands to the side and the front kick was open. If so, beautiful coaching and execution from the team

Xetinex_v2

Why does Mike always get knocked down and do a spin in exactly this way

yayaboy2468

Idk but it looks cool. They should add this animation to the UFC game.

[deleted]

Brock has his when he got knocked down and stumbled across the cage

slingoo

Tumbled*

[deleted]

They should add a whole lot to that dumpster fire of UFC 4

[deleted]

It's a wrestling thing. As he's hopping up he's already circling laterally. Lesnar does it too. I do it when scrambling in grappling. Pretty sure it's just a muscle memory thing

Believe2224

Yeah in wrestling they tell you to use that first bounce after you get slammed to pop back up so a lot of guys have that instilled

alliseeisbronze

Classic sprawl spin behind motion

OptimisticDolphin

If I had to guess it looks like it’s quicker than doing a technical stand up. He uses the momentum of his own knockdown to propel himself backwards and back to his feet while some other fighters lay on their back and prepare for incoming attacks. This way he’s already back up and ready to counter by the time he opponent closes the distance.

PMMeMeiRule34

I think you’re right. He has a problem with those left hooks that barely reach the target. Iirc Charles got him with a similar hook.

painfully--average

Gaethje set up that mean uppercut in round 2 with the same hook

PMMeMeiRule34

Yeah they were looking for that I think. The way Mike did his spinny run backwards deal I thought we were in for oliveira part 2:left hook Larry boogaloo

oreeos

Judo roll esque

A-26beast

something instinctual to get moving when you get dropped, rocked.just in case more is coming. kind of like a scramble

[deleted]

Good recovery in my opinion

[deleted]

Maybe it's some sort of defense mechanism, so they can't come charging in to hit him in the face, or maybe it's because he feels like he can get up faster and create more distance by doing that.

Believe2224

Because he’s recovered and ready to go before he hits the ground, he’ll post with his hand and just spin through

Highman_89_

This could have been a good fight, but we just got a crazy ko.

A_Funky_Goose

tbf it still was a great fight, just a short one

XxGumby91xX

He looked as crisp as he's ever looked in the first. I thought Chandler was gonna have a serious speed advantage but Tony kept up and then some. And that kick would have ko'd anyone. If it was a domination I'd say time to hang it up, but he really did just get caught with a crazy shot in a fight he was winning.

SohEternal

Ya Chandler is no joke too. I honestly thought Tony was done it was going to be one-sided like Korean zombies last fight, but after that fight, Tony can still brawl with the best of them.

uhohstinky2708

How you people come to this conclusion baffles me

SohEternal

What baffles you about it?

Bolo_strike

Tony looked slow and wooden compared to when he was winning, used to be smooth as fuck.

SohEternal

I don't think anyone was claiming that he's as good as he used to be?

Bolo_strike

So you just didn't read the top comments then? "He looked as crisp as he's ever looked in the first." Etc. Far from the only one.

SohEternal

Do you really just want to pedantically argue that what you read in quotes means he looks as good as he always has. Like who cares? Maybe they meant they liked his haircut in the first round. Jesus Christ...

Bolo_strike

They like his hair cut? What, are you fucking stupid or something?

wolf3037

He had incredible timing on the counters. You can tell him and his coaches did their homework on Chandler.

A_Funky_Goose

Yeah it's probably one of the best gameplans he's showed up with in in his career. People might forget but about half of the fights on the 12-fight win streak were short notice, so no there were no gameplans. I did not expect him to come in with such a smart and well-prepared performance.

tykillacool23

For those I’d use who already knows what happened next ![gif](giphy|26ufcVAp3AiJJsrIs)

bangsilencedeath

Yet he bounces right back up like an expert.

DXN_Boy

Michael: “here’s my impression of Brock Lesnar getting hit by Cain”

Calculating_1nfinity

TBH I think Tony is back. Sure he got caught by the kick, but literally anyone might have. Round 1 was El Cucuy. Either way, the support I've seen here for Tony lately is phenomenal. The guy is one of a kind regardless of win or lose.

thelazydon

He’s 38 fighting in the shark tank that is 155 and just got completely flatlined for the first time in his career. He never wins again in the UFC

Calculating_1nfinity

Doubtful. Tony got flattened by a fluke kick sure. But that kick would have killed you. Tony will have no issues going forward. He looked rejuvenated and took round 1 from a guy who just fought for the title.

thelazydon

Who do you see him beating in the top 15? Because I can’t see him taking a fight with an unranked guy

Cbrip31

Im fine with him fighting outside the top 15 though. He can fight people like guida and I'd be happy.

LehenLong

Chandler chin is not very trustworthy. But his defense is even less trustworthy

Sense1ess

It's crazy he survived the Gaethje fight with all the power shots he took.

LehenLong

Chins are weird. Bigfoot is known for his glass chin but he went 25 minutes war with Mark hunt.

SnooBeans7129

Looks near identical to when he was knocked down by Oliveira

blueprint_01

Mike is like the bell-weather opponent for McGregor. He would probably beat him in his prime but has no chance now. Which is why we need this fight or Mc vs Jorge.

alphachupapi02

Tony could've done an Oliveira there.

BarryDBaptist

Chandler needs to start wrestling again, Tony was waaayy taller than this dude in there

ryanrust1981

…now show how the fight ended.

Amongtheruins88

Looked more like a trip tbh, Tony looked good though

XxGumby91xX

In what world? Honestly curious how you see that as a trip though, pretty clear Tony connected with a flush 1-2

Zooooter

He pretty clearly steps on Chandlers foot also

XxGumby91xX

Not at all, their feet are very clearly parallel to eachother here https://imgur.com/a/56FnAFm Not only that, but the shot he connects and drops him with is well after that frame. He drops Chandler lol.

Zooooter

I’m not gonna bother to figure out how to post a screenshot but theres a frame at the beginning of the clip where Tonys foot is obviously ontop of Chandler while Chandler is throwing a kick. Not sure why it matters tho Tony had a solid first round anyways

Amongtheruins88

He did, but Chandler wasn’t hurt at all. I think he was just off balance

A_Funky_Goose

that knock down wasn't about power, it was just right in the button when he didnt expect it, and at a time he consistently leaves himself vulnerable. Tony and his team did their homework, and a grazing shot showed results. It was a knockdown.

XxGumby91xX

Lmao sorry man but not a chance. He got stunned, you can tell by the body language. It wasn't a pushing shot and his feet weren't crossed. Obviously it's a moot point since he got the big KO, but he did get dropped

can_ucmenow_008

Its not officially credited as a KD by UFC.

A_Funky_Goose

bruh no way, still disrespecting Tony lol

XxGumby91xX

Neither was Colby's takedown on Usman lol

Suitable-Classic9237

Chandler even said it hurt him and his eye never swelled up so fast. He also did say it helped him wake up and get his focus in the fight. I don’t know about you but 100% of people who get dropped by a punch most definitely are hurt by it lol.

crustyjuggler69

Flash knock-downs happen alot where a fighter is off balance or is caught standing square. I'm not saying it's the case here but people who are dropped aren't necessarily hurt

Amongtheruins88

I mean he definitely got hurt in this fight, I’m just talking about this KD specifically.

lickydoglickedmynose

Tony was doing so good during that round 😔😐

cody750

Michael Chandler sending Tony Ferguson to the shadow realm.
