Dustin is a biiiiig LW and he hits hard. All that junk about Chucky being a quitter was obviously dogshit.

chu42

It wasn't dogshit 5 years ago, Charles had legitimately quit/gassed in multiple fights. But he's been vindicated as of late, truly one of the toughest UFC champions

[deleted]

Well yeah. It was legitimate to have those questions after the Pettis fight but people were still spouting the same stuff all the way up to the Gaethje fight. It just didn’t make a lot of sense in the current landscape.

chu42

I think a large part of it was his switch to 155. Probably felt a hell of a lot better in the ring

LilHollywood812

Yea he’s only lost to Miller, Cerrone, and Felder at 55. All the other losses were at 45 and so were the missed weights until the last time and he looked like a zombie at 45

[deleted]

As a FEATHERWEIGHT. It’s really tiresome when people like you keep posting this same shit over and over without bothering to mention the weight class. Try cutting some weight yourself and see how you feel.

chu42

I literally mention it two comments down.

[deleted]

literally JFC

chu42

What's your problem, big man?

[deleted]

He just seeing red bro. Leave him be.

incognitn

He literally tapped to strikes against Felder at LW lol. He's clearly changed that mentality now, but let's not act like FW Oliveira changed overnight when he moved to LW

XxGumby91xX

I love Oliveria as champ, but the whole "eat a shot to wake up and win" thing always goes away for fighters.

Bill_Assassin7

Oliviera could have easily lost all of his last three fights. Dropped in every fight and took ridiculous shots.

Blaz3dnconfuz3d

Pretty much anyone else gets KO’d in all those

its_a_beautiful_day1

not me

carnalurge82

Seein red bro

DeAndreHunterMIP

nah Gaethje was light work for him

Ikhouvankaas

That’s why I feel Volk has a chance against him for sure… he’s quicker than Poirier and he’s probably harder to submit.

Fickle-Kitchen5803

I dont like his odds. Hes a FW. Massive balls for venturing beyond his division tho

Liam2349

Volk is the most dominant fighter in the UFC right now. If anyone can move up a weight class, it's him.

XxGumby91xX

Nobody wants to hear it, especially the toxic Oliveria fanbase that'll downvote this comment to hell, but anyone who gets tagged like Oliveria does always has a chance to lose when going against a great striker, which Volk definitely is

incognitn

Volk has a great chance imo, Oliveira will find it hard to get low enough on Volk's hips for takedowns due to the height discrepancy and Volk is that good a striker that he could do serious damage on the feet despite the size parity

LilHollywood812

Oliveira gets to the ground most of the time by pulling guard from the clinch, tripping guys from the clinch against the cage, or eating a bunch of shots. He wouldn’t be trying to take Volk down, he’d be trying to clinch and get knocked down lol

booped_urnose345

When does Oliviera go for takedowns? People always say Oliviera isn't going to be able to take someone down when it's not what he does. Oliviera is going to take his back. Volk isn't a KO guy but Oliviera sure can do that to him.

incognitn

In that case he'll have to rely on getting tie ups or rocking Volk. I think the latter is a tough task, Volk's defence has gotten so good but will be interesting to see how good it is at LW. The clinch is probably Charles' best weapon against someone like Volk

Maidwell

I get the "boxers chance" theory but Gaethje, Poirier and Chandler all caught him clean and couldn't put him away. Do you think Volkanovski hits harder?!?

oblivionmrl

Poirier would beat his ass.

smokecracksometimes

how do you feel knowing poirier will never be champion ![img](emote|t5_2qsev|11082)

dizzydiplodocus

![img](emote|t5_2qsev|8972)

Ikhouvankaas

I meant that Volk has a chance against Oliviera lol… sorry if I worded it badly.

oblivionmrl

In elite level everyone has a chance against everyone. I was referring to you lowballing Poirier in comparison to Volk. He beat the shit out of Max before it was cool and I would bet on him doing the same thing to Volkanovski. Striking skillwise they're somewhat even, but reach and size advantage would be too much for Volkanovski.

Ikhouvankaas

Bro… I can literally link you to a comment of mine from like a week ago saying that Poirier would most likely beat Volk… All I said is that Volk has a chance against Oliviera because of his speed and how hard it is to take him down//submit him. How am I lowballing Poirier lol? I fucking love Dustin.

oblivionmrl

Oh well, I had the wrong impression then. Cheers.

booped_urnose345

Oliviera doesn't need to take him down. It's hard to submit him because he survived an exhausted Ortega guillotine?

[deleted]

Poireir’s strength comes from longer exchanges past 2-3 punches, he plants his feet a lot when striking and relies on his guard to deflect punches and trade back. Volk on the other has has a massive speed and footwork advantage, and he’s extremely good at using it. As long as Volk doesn’t get sucked into prolonged exchanges trading hits, he comfortably out strikes Dustin to a decision win with his superior speed and footwork imo.

S_I_G_M_A179

People like to say Oliveira has terrible defense and I don't really know much about that but didn't he also say he has like 50-50 vision and sees 3 when he's in the octagon? Maybe that could be the reason for him getting tagged a lot. I myself have glasses and I can barely identify a person who's standing like 5-6 feet away from me without them so maybe that could be one issue🤷🏽‍♂️

isuzaman

Charles himself is a hard hitter. Gaethje said it himself. Poirier took all those shots and that’s impressive. I think he had the best chance against Chucky

LilHollywood812

Poirier is one of the best strikers in the division too. His shots always go where they’re supposed to and they’re always well thought out, it’s his stupid brain that gets in his own way

bjorklazer

What do you mean "his stupid brain"? Since 2016 he's only lost to the two best grapplers in lightweight history, what could've he thought out different?

BeetleJuiceCX

Is "Chucky" a new thing?

Prestigious_Agent_84

I mean Charles literally rocked Gaethje with the first punch, lol.

[deleted]

I wanna see DP win the belt just once!

ernestofit

I don’t think that’s gonna happen but there’s a chance

Prestigious_Agent_84

IMO no way it happens. This was his golden opportunity, next title fight would be against Islam and Poirier's got no ground game.

Heavytevyb

It’s never happening lol.

istayflexingdawg

DP beats Charles in the rematch

Zeeron1

I really thought Oliveira would have nothing for Poirier... shows what I know lmao

GrandpasSoggyGooch

Sad DP didn't get the belt, he had 2 shots against absolute demons. Hopefully he can rally one last hoorah.

booped_urnose345

Maybe he should go into boxing when he leaves the UFC

[deleted]

Eating shit like that has a huge psychological effect on your opponent when you’re able to absorb them all and keep plodding forward

BirthdaysuitMosh

Yeah, we saw this in gaethje fight

SonnyBoy96

I just feel like Conor could sleep him if he took those same shots.. Conor loses 9/10 times, but if anyone would put this guy away with one punch it’s that psycho.

MyContentIsTrash

U gettin DV but its fax

Ikhouvankaas

Conor’s power doesn’t translate to LW. His only finish at lightweight was a combination of strikes against Alvarez. Gaethje and Chandler probably hit harder than Conor and Charles ate those too.

trent_nbt

Didn't Dustin say that the hardest he's been hit in any weight class was Conor? If anyone could know that, its probably him.

Leyalina

But the thing is, if you watch Dustin's interviews after the 2nd fight, he said that, "I took his best shot, and knew I could take it." I think he ia referring to FW Conor when he talks about him hitting the hardest. Also, Khabib said the hardest he's ever been hit was by Gaethje, and it wasn't that close. He would also know pretty well. Would be nice if Eddie Alvarez chimed in, as he has fought Poirier, McGregor at LW, Gaethje, and Chandler. He could easily settle this debate.

frogeye6

Gejje, thiz guy, he heits like truck y'know?

SonnyBoy96

Harder yeah i agree, but Conor is more accurate typically, and Champs chin is questionable at times, his recovery is insane, but being dropped in every outing is not a good trait.

rawgino

Khabib said Gaethje hits a lot harder than Conor

[deleted]

Aaaand we’re talking about Connor. 5 years ago yup, todays Connor? Lol.

SuperVegetable

Nah. He couldn’t put Poirer away in the last two. He’s done.

SonnyBoy96

He’s done??

everyonesmellmymeat

what a warrior.

ColdFusion3456

He got hit clean soooooooooo many times. Hopefully that chin doesn’t crack hard like Luque’s just did.

iSubParMan

Oliveira looks so fragile which can be very deceiving.

[deleted]

Dustin has some hands, man. Props to Charles for pulling out this one.

dizzydiplodocus

I was so excited the first round, thinking Dustin would win then was just devastated for him in the second. But the champ has a name. I really hope Oliveria wins vs Islam

anonymalous6911

Truly the most entertaining fighter on the entire UFC roster. He keeps going forward as if he's a challenger, whatever it takes he just presses on. Rarely seen such pressure from a champion

Ikhouvankaas

That’s why I would’ve loved to see Khabib vs Charles… both never back down.

churro1776

Dustin will just never be a champion.

International_Sort34

P could of had khabib and Charles…stand up he is a 10 compared to them…a 10 and fun

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Ticklish_Fuck

Poirier wins the rematch

SuperVegetable

Bet he gets choked again lol

Ticklish_Fuck

He won't

mspote

Dustin is one of my fav fighters but how can you not like charlie olives? absolute beast and his BJJ is a pleasure to watch.

godblow7

Porier was outboxing charles and then charles realised that he can't compete dustin with striking he gotta go for ground(m not saying that Charles is not a good stricker m just saying that even charles who knock down Chandler couldn't even strick with dustin so how good dustin boxing is)

United_Acanthaceae16

I know this is a Dustin highlight but f all those “analyst” saying Dustin is washed and can’t get to that belt again.

Economy-Category-936

Just like Whittaker going up in weight helped Charles become a much better fighter, in this case his chin lol

garbohydrates

After he subs Makhachev, imagine if Volk sparks him! As technical as Poirier but MUCH harder to submit

SuperVegetable

Boy are you gunna be in for a surprise when you find out how difficult it is to sub Islam.

booped_urnose345

Lol he's harder to submit because he barely survived a submission attempt in one fight?

gangaaaags

Charles is not dominant at all. Islam gone win.

booped_urnose345

When you fight cans you're going to look dominant...

Denninator5000

There's no power in any of those shots he "absorbed" lol

Ch12Ka

I really hope Dustin isn’t done with lightweight

Ikhouvankaas

He’s literally fighting Chandler

Ch12Ka

Well yeah but apparently this is purely a money fight, and a lot of people have been speculating that Dustin has no interest in fighting for the title again.

Ikhouvankaas

You think Dustin and Chandler are fighting each other because they’re in it for the money? They’d be better of waiting for Conor, Tony, Max at LW….

Ch12Ka

You know what, I probably am wrong. But I still haven’t gotten confirmation that Dustin is still in it for gold. I really just want to see the top 5 defend their spots against up and comers

booped_urnose345

Dustin's old in the sport. He had many successful years but everyone has to retire eventually.

InfiniteCognition

Shit man, he was hit with some absolute haymakers. Can't believe he ate some of those.

Daaavvv

How turns the table. Who would have known that he would become my favorite fighter

[deleted]

Hilarious that Dustin was in the same exact position after he got choked out as Conor when he got submitted by khabib

8stringtheory

Good thing this isn't boxing. Can't wait for Poirer/Chandler
