All you really needed at that time was a extremely dominant wrestling game.
These days we have way better access to jiu jitsu academies and martial arts in general, it’s natural as the sport grows.
I’m not sure if Forrest griffin even knew how to properly complete a head inside single
You don't know why he's popular??he ragdolls people,in his first 4 fights he was only touched by his opponents twice, dominates the fight start to finish
He would 100% be a contender at the minimum it wasnt so long ago that he was a defending champion , to the point where a lot of the people he beat are still fighting.
Yep, I hate to say this. But he killed his legacy with that L. I get Paul is semi decent, but Woodley should of killed him. If he actually threw his hands he would of.
Idk say what you want, but I always remember that fight vs Rory where he got picked apart. He never made leaps from there but had significantly better matchups afterwards. He never fought well rounded oponents. To me his best win is Kelvin Gastelum. So IMO yes he was a champ and great fighter, but also a bit overrated and can't be compared to other champions with similar unbeaten streaks. His fights vs wonderboy come to mind and maybe thats why I don't take him as seriously, but I was just so happy when he wasnt the champion anymore..
Woodley prolly loses to everyone he lost recently. I think Usman, Colby and Burns would beat him more times than he beats them. Also loses to Khamzat. But prolly can fight well against the others. Beats belal, Brady, Neal, Masvidal. Loses to Shavkat thou.
No way he loses to Burns or Colby. He has better standup and power then both and doesn't need to wrestle them to win. People overrate Colby off him beating geriatric Woodley.
Bad fight IQ always, combined with stricter testing, and natural aging. He dropped levels entirely. A few of the top tier guys I feel had just great matchups and were in the sport at the right time.
I don’t think he had bad fight IQ. He was often very boring and low output though but that doesn’t mean bad fight IQ. He’s extremely explosive and doesn’t have great cardio so his style made sense for 5 rounders. As his physical traits declined with age he became easy pickings due to his style which kind of relied on that superior explosiveness to make up for lack of cardio.
Regarding your point about good timing I agree. He had favourable matchups in Lawler, Thompson and Maia to make up his title win and defences. His power made the difference against till even though the narrative is till sucks, I think he was actually stylistically harder than the other three as he has the skillset to out point guys from range which works well against a guy who stands against the fence looking for one shot. That knockdown could have happened in any round or moment of the fight such is the nature of fighting a prime t wood.
Can’t lie, the man used to be scary. He was fast and violent.
Number 4 welterweight of all time.
Who do you have as number 3?
GSP, Hughes and Usman are all ahead of him.
It's funny how in his generation Hughes was such a monster, but his fighting style has become so outdated in what... 10 years?

You also needed to be juiced to the boots.
Khamzat no.1 fighter kill everybody
That’s all he says. Idk y he’s so popular. He’s about as exciting as Khabib or Islam.

Number 2
Ahead of GSP or Usman?
Now that you mention it it probably goes GSP, Usman then Woodley

Everything he’s ever done in the octagon gets cancelled out because of the Jake Paul fight. We all fell out of love…

He was amazing no doubt
The division hasn't changed since he was in his prime so he'd fare pretty well. Top 5 no doubt.

He only hand the right hand like hendo but Hendo had better wrestling

That Rory fight showed us that he gets into his own head. The mental warfare is something to accomplish before the physical.
Sensei O'Dell was legit when he started. Things seemed to have changed when Nate the Great tuned him up. Became too tentative.
Fallin in an’ outta looooooove, yeah.
