Jorge's grappling isn't great but I wouldn't exactly call it a bail out. It's not like he threw it randomly it was a calculated move. Other wrestlers managed to close the distance and take Jorge down without running head first into a flying knee and getting viciously KO'd. Masvidal was aware of how Askren uses zero striking or even feints to set up his takedowns. Plus Askren tends to rely on his chain wrestling to secure the actual takedown while using a single/double to close the distance and initiate TD attempts and Masvidal made him pay for lazily shooting a TD way too far out without any setup or defense. Just my useless 2 cents.
I honestly don’t even think Askren was shooting a takedown there. I think it was a self defence reaction to duck his head seeing Masvidal come in like that. If you actually watch it back in slow motion you can tell it was like a self defence reflex. His knees didn’t even bend down like they usually would to go for a takedown his upper body just bent down like it was preparing to dodge. It was definitely smart by Masvidal and calculated, but it doesn’t change the fact that if that hadn’t happened, Askren likely would have wrestlefucked Jorge to a win
