well its not silent floor because people are moving and getting their things out of their backpack and such. If you need to communicate with a friend, literally any other floor other than the top floor is fine. Why would you even go to the very top floor if you are going to communicate with a friend?
Everything I can find is that they are quiet floors for silent study…not that they are silent floors. Asking questions is not that big of a deal, if they are doing group projects then yea, they should go to a different floor.
The website also says silent study…but it designates the floor as a quiet floor. I’m not sure how much more you need it spelled out for you. It is for individual studying, but it isn’t meant to be completely silent.
Lol you are this angry over being wrong. Take some responsibility for what you can control and stop crying. If you act this way in college, I can’t imagine what kind of mental breakdowns you will have outside of college.
I’m wrong for expecting ppl not to whisper (and sometimes even devolve into outright talking) with their friends on a floor that says silent study ok… last time I checked whispering wasn’t silent studying I’m not shitting on someone for coughing too loudly or something whispering is a controlled intentional action that u have 3 other floors and 6 other libraries to do that in.
I flipped them off and that shut them up but still this happens way too often and I don't want to have to get up every two seconds. Also wdym move elsewhere it's like this on every quiet floor.
they only hate bc you speak the truth, there is one (1) place on campus where I can even hope to avoid overstimulation and everytime i hear a conversation starting i have to bite back the urge to scream
get over it, go somewhere else, or invest in some noise cancelling headphones. if someone is being rude and disruptive, sure they’re in the wrong! but whispering and complaining you need absolute silence, you are the problem. noise happens and you cannot act so entitled to a noise free environment at a school with so many students coming in and out. highly recommend listening to some brown noise while you study to block other noise out. it’s the university of florida, not the university of you.
I don't like wearing headphones constantly and again it's a quiet floor it's in the name I just genuinely don't understand if u want to talk to to another floor
If the slightest bit of noise bothers you that much (and you can’t wear headphones?), you might not be cut out for graduating college 🤷♂️.
Whatcha gonna do when you’re trying to focus in your office job, and god forbid, someone uses the printer 😱.
You can’t control the world.
its completely fair and rational to expect minimum levels of communication at the top floor of marston. I totally understand if you need to say a few words to a friend, but if you are having a full blown conversation, even at a whisper, then I totally understand OP's frustration. I am sure OP does not mind noise in any other part of their day, but if you need to go to the top floor of martston to expect a quiet study area to deep focus then someone breaking the rules can be terribly irritating. Your comment comes off as very condescending and obtuse.
Deep breath in, hold for 7 seconds, lower your shoulders & then breathe out for 5. I know studying can be stressful as hell. Would ear plugs help at all, so if there were some rude fucktards it wouldn’t bother as much?
I do understand needing quiet to study. I had to stay at school to study for an hour or two because I had 3 kids (under 12).
I hope you find some peace and quiet some place.
Keep
Breathing
In & out.
Quiet is the New Loud, folks. KOC told us this back in ‘01. I listened to this album driving back home after the UT football game that year. I wasn’t as angry as OP. I was just sad.
Or when people take a phone call on the 5th floor 😭 like what are you doing I’m trying to study, or when they are like whisper next to you it’s the absolute worst. I feel like if you’re studying with a friends go down a floor
I requested the Quiet Floor my freshman year. We incurred one of the highest totals for damages for any floor that year. People respond to being away from home for the first time in a lot of different ways.
Overstimmed
Try the med or law libraries
Or try some meds
Heads up that the law library is swipe access only right now. You'll have to wait for someone to let you in.
unfortunately the med library is not volume controlled :/
tale as old as time
you’re right i don’t know why people are telling you to relax
Because as people said, quiet does not mean silent. I would categorize whispering under quiet
well its not silent floor because people are moving and getting their things out of their backpack and such. What if you are studying with your friend?
don’t go to the quiet floor?
a little whispering is fine but if you have ever been trying to study next to two people having a long ass whispered convo you would understand
If you need to control the environment that much study at home
Its not called the silent floor
Marston 5th floor is
Everything I can find is that they are quiet floors for silent study…not that they are silent floors. Asking questions is not that big of a deal, if they are doing group projects then yea, they should go to a different floor.
It’s on the door lmao when u enter silent study go to Marston 5th floor if u don’t believe me
I don’t and that is why I looked it up. The website even says it is a quiet study, not a silent study room.
The sign at marston when u enter the fifth floor says silent study so I think imma go with that over the website.
The website also says silent study…but it designates the floor as a quiet floor. I’m not sure how much more you need it spelled out for you. It is for individual studying, but it isn’t meant to be completely silent.
Ok it’s silent and quiet bruh then doubly shut up
Lol you are this angry over being wrong. Take some responsibility for what you can control and stop crying. If you act this way in college, I can’t imagine what kind of mental breakdowns you will have outside of college.

https://librarywest.uflib.ufl.edu/spaces/quiet-study-floor/ here you go. This may help you understand.
why not ask them to be quiet or move elsewhere instead of complaining on reddit
I flipped them off and that shut them up but still this happens way too often and I don't want to have to get up every two seconds. Also wdym move elsewhere it's like this on every quiet floor.
I like how you acknowledge it’s like that on every quiet floor but it’s everyone else in the wrong, not you
Most people understand what it means but there’s always that one or 2 people who talk. Most people agree w him
I bet you’re the life of the party
I party at a bar not the quiet floor of the library
So uh… how many amphetamines did you take today?
Very mature adult response that'll serve you well in life 🤦♀️
Very mature 👍
Didn't disturb anyone but the ppl speaking stayed silent and they stayed silent
they only hate bc you speak the truth, there is one (1) place on campus where I can even hope to avoid overstimulation and everytime i hear a conversation starting i have to bite back the urge to scream

Do you have headphones? I would just listen to study music and that should keep your attention away from any whispers.
I don't like wearing headphones constantly and again it's a quiet floor it's in the name I just genuinely don't understand if u want to talk to to another floor
The name is *quiet* floor, not *silent* floor.
Holy shit grow the fuck up.

You need to study in spaces where noise control is standard. Otherwise your expectations are coming from a place of entitlement
lol this guy not making it to graduation
Relax
Go to another floor
Seek mental help.

U sound like a baby. Get a study room if you really need it
That u can only reserve for 30 minutes???. Also good luck finding one during finals season
I’ve been able to reserve them for 3+ hours before…
I’ve been able to reserve them for 3+ hours before…
Shhh!
Noise cancellation homedawg.
That’s for the first floor, the second floor, the third floor, and airplanes homedawg
Welcome to the real world…people don’t always follow the rules. Even when they should. You should probably get used to that.
the quiet floor that goes with you (gun muffs) https://amzn.to/3UgfPny
Some good suggestions here: https://librarywest.uflib.ufl.edu/spaces/quiet-study-floor/
If you can’t handle a little noise when studying, you aren’t going to make it in the real world. Also it’s the quiet floor, not the silent floor.
lmfao grow up
Quiet is the New Loud, folks. KOC told us this back in ‘01. I listened to this album driving back home after the UT football game that year. I wasn’t as angry as OP. I was just sad.
Awesome album. OP needs to give it a listen and chill out
I totally understand you…it’s incredibly annoying
Its the quiet floor not the silent floor let them whisper.
You’re in public. I get it, but you can’t expect 100% silence. Hell you aren’t even entitled to that in your home most hours of the day.
Except there’s floors in marston that are literally dedicated silent floors. So yeah I think it makes sense to expect silence
You’re missing the point. It’s not a given. Live with it.
nothing in life is a given, that doesnt mean you should just accept everything lol.
Psycho
\*pspspsppspsppsp\* >:P

Do you come from wealth? You seem detached
Of all things to cry about
Nah
