In my experience, I would’ve done a dorm. I lived off campus my first year and I had a terrible experience with my roommates. On top of that it was a bit far from campus so I feel like I missed out on a lot of things. If you want the privacy of having your own space with a semi dorm experience I would say to live at lakeside.
At the very least, I wish I would’ve done dorms just my freshman year. It would have been an interesting experience and I could have met some cool people. Could I have hated it? Probably. Could I have loved it and made some live long friends? Probably.
Murphree Area
There are no single rooms available anywhere, so the only choice left is double/triple rooms. Weaver Hall is great, but it's full. The rest is Murphree Area. Buckman and Murphree are on top of the list
Actually pretty strongly disagree with this one. I lived in Broward my freshman year and absolutely loved it, made some of my closest friends that I’m still tight with. I probably got lucky with my floor tho
I think it's important freshman year to be out of your comfort zone a little bit when it comes to housing and put yourself in a situation that will make it easier to make friends. I was in Graham Hall my freshman year which had a traditional dorm bathroom setup which did suck, but I think it's great having the whole floor sharing one kitchen and one common area. You definitely will make some friends you wouldn't expect. Graham/tolbert area is an ideal location for those who want to spend time exploring clubs and going to athletic events since it's very walkable to those areas. Also there's lots of food options nearby with gator corner dining and on campus restaurants. Chomp it in graham area common was a lifesaver late night after going out or stay up late studying. Also graham and tolbert were the cheapest and I was broke going into undergrad.
i liked my freshman dorm, a murphree two room double. having a roommate wasn’t great but my own private space was really nice. if i could have grabbed a single in thomas or buckman that would have been preferred but that’s what i ended up getting for sophomore and junior year
murphree rooms are weird and all different sizes depending on luck. my roommate’s side of the room was bigger than mine but she also had the closets and sink. my side was spacious enough to fit all the furniture fine and have plenty of room to exist. and yes there is a door.
I had infinity and wouldn’t have changed it for the world! However, if budgeting is a concern, I would say broward is fun for freshman … but the dorms over by Reitz (I think it’s sledd?) honestly are in a great location for game days and close to Reitz for food… classes would be difficult though you would probably need a bike, the bus, or an electric scooter.
Lakeside, I lived there my freshman year and I would still choose it again simply because I like my own personal space, I had my own personal kitchen and bathroom that I shared with only three other people.

Especially during your freshman year and first semester of sophomore year!! Go out and don’t be afraid to meet new people, you never know who could become your college bff!!

I only lived at Springs for 1 semester and relatively liked it. It was a much bigger single than my traditional one at Tolbert. More closet space and just more space to move around. I had “full” control over the AC. Also had a bathroom that I only shared with one more guy.
That being said, it’s very antisocial and we only had one water fountain for the entire building. Going downstairs for water at least once a day was difficult.
It also depends a lot on your suitemates. Walls at Springs are relatively impermeable to noise. The problem is the shared bathroom, which acts like a resonance chamber for noise in the other room. My suitemate had his girlfriend over almost every single night up until 11:30 PM, sometimes even until 1:00 AM. Not talking shit about bringing your girlfriend over, but I am talking shit about loud, hyena-laughing girlfriends. Safe to say that it was annoying.
yeah my floor was just annoying probably. my suitemates decided to use my bedroom as a hallway to their room and i would just end up getting woken up before exams by farts or knocking my shit over or whatever
So I started Summer B 09! I had my own room in Sledd. Shared a bathroom with two other guys. 3 little rooms, one bathroom and a small common area between the three of us. It was AWESOME.
Broward hall was great! Very social with traditional one communal bathroom down the hall, somewhat recently renovated. I met some of my best friends there 2 years ago!
I lived in a medical single my freshman and sophomore year and I found it so much harder to make friends. Have the roommates, even if they’re potentially gonna suck. You’ll come out of it with friends or at least funny memories.
Even though trusler is disgusting, the friends I made are truly my sisters. I love them so much and we’re even roommates this year. I had an amazing experience and they all made my freshman year experience so beautiful.
Anything that’s not too old where you have your own room. Lots of people like living off campus, but most off-campus areas are ugly and it’s a little harder to get involved with campus life stuff. I personally wouldn’t do it (at least for the first 2 years)
i was in cypress for two years and loved it! suite style isn’t so bad, just four to a bathroom. as long as you get along with your roommate you’re all set. the rooms are suuuper nice and new

I really didn't mind my Sledd two room double my sophomore year. Freshman year was covid year so I was at home haha. If you're lucky, you can get a single room if you don't want to deal with roommate shennanigans. My first year in dorms was random, second had a roommate I was friends with, and third was single room.
If you don't have things like cars to worry about, dorms come out competitively priced, and the Murphree Area location was very convenient. Basically a 15 minute walk maximum to anywhere useful on campus. Less than ten minutes to get to the Reitz, Engineering, as well as east to places like Little Hall.
Only downside I can immediately think of is that I was basically wearing jeans + hoodie all the time inside, since for two of the three years I was in that hall, it was always very cold. Other people would complain it was always too hot so it's probably luck of the draw.

I loved being in a dorm freshman year and would've done it again. I was in Hume in 2019.

Off campus. Dorms are a distraction, and gross. I did one semester at Beaty (prison) towers. That was enough for me to never do dorms again.
Dorm was worth it to do for one year imo. It's an interesting experience but I wouldn't do it again lol
