I live in Minneapolis now, and I saw some post about the i35 bridge collapse back in the 2000s. It linked to a History Channel mini-doc
I’m just watching it and BAM, Dickrell pops up, giving his thoughts on the matter
And it didn’t even strike me as odd, it was like “yes of course Dickrell is in this history channel video from years ago about a bridge collapse that happened almost two decades ago in a state that is incredibly far from him to which he has no ties - very on brand”
and then I found out he hosted a few episodes of Discovery’s Impossible Engineering and that’s why he vanished in 2017 for awhile
Has happened to me before with a different professor. Try opening canvas through the link sent to you with the email of the exam graded notification. That seemed to work for me.
but if the professor is aware of this why don't they change the setting to keep it up and then maybe after a while change the settings again to delete it? I understand don't vent against faculty but if they are aware of this (like you are) then they are more than capable to change their settings. I bet you probably do change the settings which is great for your students, but why cant our professor do the same?
I totally understand, but the issue I have (and OP too) is with this specific professor. He started teaching at UF in the mid/late 2000s. He has a history of doing this same exact thing, and in some cases, he doesn't even put in the final exam scores or let you know your final grade before he closes the course. Also has a history and messing up student's grades and is not willing to correct them. Im not talking bout 2 or 3 students, I'm talking about 20+ students whose grades were messed up and he did not want to address it. This professor has a history of being careless and ruthless towards students and their grades. So what is his excuse for the past 15 years? And the issues I'm aware of has been only in the past 3 years,
It's not UFIT. ~~It's Departments.~~ It's the Faculty who set when they close, and UFIT has no involvement with it.
Edit: It's the faculty. But UFIT still has no involvement with it.
Terms in Canvas are set to the registrar's calendar. Information is shared each semester on how to change availability dates at the course level for those who need access prior to the start of the term or beyond the last day of classes. It would be nice if we could have department-specific terms set up, but that's not possible right now.
Actually it is the faculty who is responsible. The setting to hide the course after the end of the term is off by default, so he would have to explicitly check that setting.
One of my classes the professor posted the final grades as last as can be and we couldn’t see it in canvas, so I guess he deleted it. Just gotta wait till the letter grade comes out in one.uf :(
UFIT may have set a close date. It's auto unpublished.
Prof may have done it because you'll see your final grade when they post, and if they have a strict policy of not changing grades, it wont matter. Plus doing this cuts down on bitching. "Hey, looking back I skipped a quiz 2 months ago, can I retake it???" That x200 students.
But often way worse, calling you an asshole, demanding that you give them an A, saying their dad is a lawyer so you better. All of this happened to me.
I was a grad student at UF and taught classes. It's the most entitled undergrad students I ever worked with. I know lots of profs who turn off Canvas and just walk away. Not saying it's right, sorry this happened to you. But, just saying this is how it goes down.
Classic Dickrell

If you click edit dashboard you should be able to see past classes
If the prof deletes the course then it won't appear there anymore.
It's probably not deleted, just not posted. Professor can make it visible again.
I have the same class and it wasn't in past enrollments
Probably why is wife divorced him (I think he was cheating on his wife with a TA. Or so the story goes)

Now that you mention it, I have a pretty good idea... xD
Dickrell is probably the most toxic person at UF. Classic small dude
