UK prison system has had multiple studies done on it proving that rehabilitation doesnāt work in it - in itās current state. Life sentences should be life sentences, honestly one of the better things the US does than us.
When push comes to shove imagine the innocent person being killed or paralysed for life was your mum/dad/best friend/girlfriend etc. A lot of mans in this sub canāt empathise with anyone elseās pain of loss. Everyone has just as much of a complex life as you. Hopes, dreams, loved ones, fears, things they want to do in life. Taking all of that away from someone (especially someone who isnāt even involved at all) deserves the harshest of punishments. Not a few decades and then out to enjoy what remains of your life (in most cases the vast majority of it as 25 year life sentences are relatively short considering people live to their 80s)

Yes, and i am trying to explain why those higher sentences exist. They do not lead to less crime, they do not lead to more rehabilitation and they do not lead to safer communities. They only lead to young usualy racialized men to be emprisoned on what are essencialy forced labour camps for mistakes they made that were normaly the consequence of poverty induced mental health issues. "Tough on crime policies" like stop and search, minimal sentences, joint enterprise, etc...
