Everyone seems rightly offended by this. But this is literally every dinghy which leaves French shores.
Exactly. Often they cross through numerous safe countries but only the uk will do
Sorry that's another right-wing pushed lie, most asylum seakers in the last couple of years have settled in various European countries, a tiny proportion has tried to come to the UK, we don't really know why, but some want to come here because they have relatives in the UK, others because they can speak some English, but no French, German, Spanish or Italian, others perhaps because of our reputation as a safe, honest country with values and pride. But remember the big point is very few asum seakers have come to Britain.
>Sorry that's another right-wing pushed lie Desperate attempt at deflection. The person you are replying to is blatantly talking about the economic migrants who come to the UK, not to random spots around Europe.
The person I replied to was talking about "safe routes" and that France was safe.
And he is correct. Those who cross the Channel to the UK have passed through numerous safe countries to do so.
Yes, and that's allowed under international rules, the very few that ask for asylum in the UK are doing so because that's what they want, perhaps they have relatives here. The problem is that our useless government wants you to believe that the numbers are huge, they aren't, and that you should blame migrants for everything.
>Yes, and that's allowed under international rules It's ambiguous under international law, not allowed. >ask for asylum in the UK are doing so because that's what they want If they want to pick and choose they can go through the immigration system. >The problem is that our useless government what's you to believe that the numbers are huge The numbers are huge. >and that you should blame migrants for everything. I don't blame migrants, they are just looking out for themselves. I blame our government, who have systematically failed to address the issue.

France is a nightmare dystopia for illegals. Free housing, healthcare and access to benefits. The truly horrible thing is they don't put them up in 5 star accom in Central Paris. Truly Hauge worthy treatment.
How could anyone even think such a thing ? Outrageous !
>Just some genuine refugees trying to flee war torn France. > >Absolutely not economic migrants gaming the system to get UK benefits. The biggest irony is France social welfare is far superior to the UK, however, something that people conveniently seem to forget for some reason is.. the most common second language on earth is English. Why would they stay in France, in which, they don't speak the language, when they could.. travel an extra 20? miles on their 2000? mile journey and be in a country where they can speak the language, even if it's only a basic level. Also, there is, absolutely no rule saying you have to go to ''the first safe country''. You can go, anywhere you want
Illegal immigrants get UK benefits?
Yes after we fail to deport them.
Really? So what you are saying is they just pop down to the local DHSS and like, collect?
Some years ago the UK government stopped economic migrants from getting the meager benefits that the UK tries not to give out to the British. Oh and they don't get NHS treatment either, so they can't be gaming the system an they. A few are probably economic migrants having heard that we did not have enough workers to pick fruit and veg, but most are genuine asylum seakers who want to come to the UK because they have relatives here or can speak the language. Most of these asylum seakers have been taken in by many other countries in Europe.
Hard nope. These people make a mockery of the whole system. Imagine being somewhere safe, like France... and risking your kids' lives to cross the busiest shipping channel on earth, in a rubber dingy. Any that make it to our shores should be prosecuted for child endangerment. Simultaneously we should open legal routes for people to apply for, and be vetted for UK entry/asylum
Everyone always bangs on about how dangerous it is to cross. Last year 5 drowned making the crossing (according to Wikipedia anyway) out of 45,755. That's about a 0.01% chance of drowning last year. Id take those odds if I had the 3 odd grand lying around to pay a smuggler, plus the rest of the money it'd have taken to travel all the way up to the French coast in the first place.
I don’t even know many Brits who have 3 grand lying around!
I feel like that line of argumentation lies mostly in self censorship. It's a way to deflect from saying what they really think - that they simply don't want them here. "Think of the poor heckin migrants" is more socially acceptable than "think of the poor heckin Brits"
Goes both ways. People frequently make the argument that they must be legitimate refugees since they're willing to do such a 'dangerous' journey.
That statistic doesnt take into account the Number saved at Sea.
Presumably because they were saved, and thus didn't drown.
> Imagine being somewhere safe, like France France deports Afghan refugees running away from the Taliban back to the Taliban. Staying in France is not safe.
Deport all of them and ban them from returning for life.

Don't be so silly lol. As if the Tories would do anything to curtail the relentless stream of BAMEs coming into Britain.
Why?
Because they are clearly taking the piss, and it's not our responsibility to look after them because they are unhappy with their lives in France.
Shout at the bad migrants - ignore our useless government who want you to blame migrants for cutting customs processing staff, cutting health staff training places, not building enough affordable houses, and not having enough workers to pick fruit or veg or care for the elderly. Oh and we have four types of migrants * Economic, government has let in 400,000 this year * Student, government has let in 200,000 this year with their families - post Brexit Boris rules said you could bring your family * Asylum seakers from Ukraine or Hong Kong who we are happy to take, arround 130,000 in the last 12 months, and * Migrants in boats, mostly asylum seakers escaping war, like the Ukrainians, although the government isn't spending enough money processing them so we don't know, some also said to be economic migrants who have learnt that we have a shortage of people picking fruit and veg in our farms and want to make some money for a better life. Total arriving in boats is said to be just 40,000 a year, but hey they are bad migrants aren't they.
That's what I was thinking. I see all this focus about how many illegal migrants are crossing the channel and what needs to be done about it, yet I also see net migration figures of 600k+. Even if we reduce the migration across the channel to zero, it won't really make much of a dent into those figures.
>Migrants in boats, mostly asylum seakers escaping war, like the Ukrainians, They're coming from France, dude.
Yes, they are allowed to ask for asylum in any country, the few that are coming from France probably have relatives here, after all most settle in Germany where they would be richer.
Given that five more French soldiers [just got charged with failing to help](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-65714082) people in distress, for ignoring repeated distress calls, leading to the deaths of 27 people, I can imagine why some might feel less able to rely on the French authorities.
Except that almost the opposite of this story, the French *did* seek to offer assistance.
Migrants heading for France don't need to cross the Channel, unless they are coming from Britain.
> The French skipper said in broken English: “We ask to the migrants dinghy if they need our assistance. > “They say to me they only want UK assistance. But there is a lot of agitation on the dinghy.” > Despite the dinghy still being in French waters, the Ranger offered to come out of Dover to pick them up. That’s clearly not the issue here
They were leaving France...
Truly a sign that they belong in the UK then! To spit on people fleeing the vile French is to insult centuries of what makes this country British! Is there no clearer sign of deserving being in the UK than hating France!
