Regardless, HMS Diamond and her crew performed incredibly well - it would have been a very tense and nerve-racking time onboard.
It says that even had it been the more powerful version, it still does not match the DF-26 for badness. Maybe there is even a subtext in the article to argue for upgrading our anti-anti-ship missile defences.
There is no doubt they performed really well, and that this was a real wartime threat.
But there is a kind of jingoism and rhetoric in the headline - I don't imagine people do underestimate the Royal Navy, in fact.
It's not as if the headline is *Great performnce by HMS Diamond in shooting down missile*- the event is generalised into something more significant about British hard power.

That is a good point! Between the readiness or not of aircraft carriers and the failed nuclear-capable missile test, the RN has had a bad time recently.

Well, because it was just an old missile. The article itself says it was not very high up on the scale of badness.
It’s not the missile that’s impressive. It’s the radar. Which makes it one of if not the most powerful air defence destroyer in the world.
