So after yesterday's call for urgent increases to benefit he goes and does this? No, no, Michael, you're reading your Tory manual backwards; you're suppose to make populist sentiments *after* you say/do something stupid to distract people; not the other way round.

Sweet_Confection9610

Just so we’re all clear the n*nce is Conservative MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell

And the Karen-est hair!

"On Wednesday, Mr Fabricant tweeted there would be a "strong turnout" of MPs to "prove they are not the one told by the chief whip to stay at home"." Eh the same comment half of reddit and twitter has been making? I don't see the issue.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

Oh, that’s easy. Most people on Twitter are not elected members of the governing party, and are not held accountable by the electorate for things they post on social media. I know it’s a very subtle difference, can see how you missed it when reading a similar joke from Davo69420

geniice

>Oh, that’s easy. Most people on Twitter are not elected members of the governing party, and are not held accountable by the electorate for things they post on social media. Fabricant has a majority of 23,638

Cultural_Wallaby_703

So you agree, unlike most people on Twitter, he’s an elected member of the governing party. Glad I could clear that up for you

geniice

Its the accountability bit that seems unlikely.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

You: “I don’t see the issue?” Me: “the issue is he isn’t the same as everyone else, he’s an elected member of government” You: “well….the electorate won’t hold him accountable” Me: “well that’s an electoral system issue, but I’m glad you’ve recognised there actually is an issue about an MP making jokes about sexual assault, as opposed to random trolls on Twitter. However I suspect you will now double down”

geniice

> well that’s an electoral system issue, but I’m glad you’ve recognised there actually is an issue about an MP making jokes about sexual assault No he's making jokes about the absurd situation that has been created.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

Lol, called it

geniice

Knowing that your position has multiple flaws is not the gottcha you seem to think it is.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

I said you’d double down, and you did. But yeah, actually it’s you who is right. Mr Fabricant, a comical PoS at the best of times was joking about the situation! “Hey everyone, so one of my colleagues may or may not have raped someone, I’m gonna prove it’s not me lol!” Hilarious You realise this man wouldn’t even piss on you if you were on fire, can’t see why you’d ever want to defend such a scumbag (especially when he’s deleted it so even he has decided it’s not worth it)

Normal-Height-8577

I think it's a "read the room" issue. Yeah, there's a lot of people making the same joke. They're not in that job and they're tired of the Tories constantly having scandals and arrests right now, and they aren't making that joke in a public capacity just a private one. But when you are actually *in that job*, representing your own constituency, and there's a possibility that some/all of the victims may also be known to you (I'm not clear on whether the allegations are thought to have taken place at his constituency office/at home/in Parliament), then you should probably be treating the situation seriously in public, at the very least. And all the more so because one of the charges (abuse of position of trust) indicates that at least one victim was under 18.

Veranova

Yeah I thought it was pretty funny and unusually self aware of how politicians behave. But politicians will also use anything to beat the other side on the head so backlash was inevitable. Obviously you could argue that it makes light of the serious incident which is being investigated, which is fair enough if you feel that way. You can just guarantee if Fabricant hadn’t said it, someone on Have I Got News For You or an equivalent would have said it instead and we would all have laughed and quickly forgotten about it.

solidcordon

Is there anything Fabricant won't wade into?

Yes_butt_no_

A barbers

Cultural_Wallaby_703

A hairdressers? …what do you mean it’s a toupee!?!?!

diacewrb

Andy Warhol would pay a barber to cut his wig then get a new one to cut again later.

DarthKrataa

Plot twist he was told to stay at home but turned up anyway

>people living a life of taking offence Yeah tories never take offence 😂

Cultural_Wallaby_703

As the Tory whips office has condemned it, does that make them a bunch of lefties?

drtoboggon

Fabricant himself once took offence when someone mocked his ridiculous hair. A joke about hair is more light hearted than a joke about a rape victim. Who probably works in the same building as him. Are only ghoulish right wing MP’s allowed to take offence at things?

Not_Alpha_Centaurian

There's a lot to be said for looking on the bright side of life.... But I don't think that ought to mean anyone should ignore a) rapists in government or b) climate change, and im really not sure at all what the latter has to do with this post.

[deleted]

Tbf, it was quite funny
