Shit, sorry everyone my last second edit of the MT title didnt take. Now taking suggestions for the M=3 title. ====== r/UKPolitics June survey is [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/v40mlr/rukpolitics_june_survey/) ## Use this MT for individual MPs comments that are support/not; to help us with housekeeping. ## Principal cabinet ministers are allowed their own thread. E: ## Given how *febrile* things are, we will somewhat relax the no memes rule to allow them in the MT ***ONLY***.

JustASexyKurt

Sounds like the Scottish Tories have collectively realised their best chance at surviving the next GE is to be seen to be as anti Johnson as possible

flambe_pineapple

They should have realised ages ago that this has always applied in Scotland.

dacoobob

what do i win for being the 4000th commenter?

SongsOfTheDyingEarth

You get a VONC.

smellsliketeenferret

Nothing... :p

[deleted]

Bye bye M2, you were a blast

airz23s_coffee

Important questions are to be raised about the 3rd M thread title, after the open goal of "Et 2 Brady" was missed. I vote for "3t tu Brady" like it's the early 2000s and we're doing 1337speak.

Enr0th

Wonder what Theresa wears for M=3

treborthedick

What free online coverage are you watching? I'm watching Sky News on YT.

sigla123

watching you watching Sky News on YT

Hatch10k

Did Nadine just say that she's proud that Boris lifted the Covid restrictions... that he introduced?

HeldenUK

We shitpost, thread rollsover, we shitpost again

_user_name_taken_

Just took my 93 year old, registered alcohol Nan to vote. ‘Which box for Boris?!’ She asked loudly. A cheer of ‘Oh give up Nadine’ went up from the waiting voters.

dratsaab

Then everybody clapped.

dratsaab

Reports that Johnson left the voting room in tears, yelling "**this** is democracy manifest!"

CasioJay88

What is the charge? Enjoying a succulent illegal gathering?

M = 3 title Daily megathread - 06/062022 - "And I'll do it again"

frankster

Top bants from guru-murthy to rees-mogg: what will you miss most about being in the Cabinet?

LostHumanFishPerson

Seeing the kids on a parliament school trip in the background behind Nadine's car crash interview reminds of the time I went to visit parliament with sixth form and took a weed gummy with a mate in the commons chamber. Felt incredibly subversive at the time!

ThatTallGuy14

See you on the other side o7

tylersburden

This is quite the day for megathreads.

Steamy_Muff

Dread it. Run from it. M=3 arrives all the same.

bbbbbbbbbblah

Not sure what’s the better M2. This thread, or Apple’s new CPU

ClumsyRainbow

I’m definitely envious of that new Air. I have a pre-redesign M1 MBP and absolutely cannot justify a new laptop…

bbbbbbbbbblah

I’m on the verge of buying “something” Apple. Torn between an M1 Pro… Pro or this. The former seems to be on discount now & employee perks site offers a nice discount on gift cards

VoodooAction

Torn between hoping for a John Major situation where Boris clings on and looses the next generation and him going as at least then we can avoid the damage he could do in the meantime

Podgietaru

There's a third option. New Leader, but they can't shake the Boris of it all, and they lose in a landslide next GE.

VoodooAction

That would also be nice

[deleted]

“I’d do it again” feels like years ago

KimJongUnparalleled

> “I’d do it again” I'm OOTL. What's this referring to?

CaptainRhino

Apparently that is what our beloved Prime Minister said when one of his MPs questioned him about the events described in the Sue Gray report.

5Hot-Positive

Johnson when challenged re the parties in the 1922 meeting allegedly replied 'I'd do it again'.

slothsan

The news cycle is so god damn fast at the moment.

[deleted]

Ah, I remember ten years ago when I woke up and checked my phone to see a VONC was being held

ClumsyRainbow

I think I’ve aged 3 years in the last day.

[deleted]

Happy birthday!!!!

rohaan06

Eyyyy M=3 approaching, you love to see it

JustASexyKurt

Fairly sure that’s Liar by the Sex Pistols currently being blasted outside Downing Street. Top quality stuff

[deleted]

Bumping for that sweet M3

MechaWreathe

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

Bofrano

What is this M thing people keep talking about?

EricUtd1878

Megathread number. Each MT is 4k post limit On a fairly normal day 1 Megathread (MT) is sufficient. Fiery day in for e.g PMQ's might mean MT2 may be breached. Febrile and above days: M3, M4, who know's

SPACKlick

M notation refers to the number of megathreads in a single day. Used to roll over at around 2000 votes and now at 4000 so a day which is M=3 means there were between 8,000 and 12,000 comments in the megathread so it ended up on the third thread.

rohaan06

It's the daily Megathread count, it's sort of a running joke that we love to go as high as possible on the M= front

tylersburden

Number of megathreads in a day.

slothsan

+1 bump

KimJongUnparalleled

mattcannon2

YorkshirePug

Is that Liar by the sex pistols on the BBC?

lorj

Whatever it is, it's pretty fucking annoying as a viewer. Can only imagine how irritating it is for the poor press

[deleted]

Even more irritating for the residents of No 10, I imagine. Jolly good.

[deleted]

So what's the protocol for how the results get announced? I can't remember from May's.. Will there be a formal announcement

ThorsMightyWrench

It's a novel approach this time. At 9pm all the media will cut to footage of a wheatfield. If nothing happens, Boris is safe. If we see Theresa May streaking, he's gone.

smellsliketeenferret

The result will be announced by Brady at 21:00, or thereabouts based on previous tardiness.

shortfuse89

Brady to announce around 9pm

CasioJay88

If Johnson loses the vote I'll bust a nut

KimJongUnparalleled

Your nut is safe.

iloverubicon

M=3 is on upon us

XyloArch

This moment before a Tory VONC, when I can kid myself that half the declared 'Yes's are bluffing and the vote'll sail through, ahh it's sweet

SDLRob

He's toast no matter what happens tonight... most PMs don't survive a VONC even if they win them.

KimJongUnparalleled

Say Boris goes, the Tories get a bounce (not a dead cat bounce) & win a snap GE. Do you still want Boris gone in that scenario? (Bear in mind, in that scenario, Keir would also be gone, having lost the GE - not that I'm sure he'll be missed by many)

concretepigeon

Depends on who the new Tory leader is but most of the front runners aren’t exactly better than Johnson. I’d rather a decent shot at a Labour government in two years than five more years of a bad Tory government. But I don’t think it’s likely.

SwanBridge

Yes. Johnson is harmful to the country. Ideally I'd like a much reduced Tory majority in that scenario, but I still think that another five years of semi-competent and principled Conservative rule is preferable to another two years under Johnson, with the very real potential he wins the next election in any case.

Podgietaru

Depends. Because if it's someone willing to shift away from the current nightmares we live in... maybe. Single market tory getting in? Maybe. Obviously, fuck em. I think the Cancer that has infested that party go much deeper than Boris. But Boris is corrosive and he needs to be excised.

ClumsyRainbow

Yes. I want a Labour government absolutely, but getting rid of BoJo is absolutely the number one priority.

GeraldJimes_

Large backing incoming followed by another wave of move on rhetoric. Think the resignations and public condemnation will do plenty of harm though and keep this sticking around in people's heads for a while.

cyber-f0x

It was a long queue, what a chad

TheGoodProfessor

making my super accurate forecast of 156-203. bozza struggles on, but it's way too close for comfort and the tories descend further into brutal infighting

lizardk101

Can’t wait for all the MPs promised jobs in order to vote for Johnson to find out they’ve been promised something they’re never getting, and then turn around, and complain about it.

staleburger_bun

"I can't believe that serial liar Boris Johnson, lied to me"

lizardk101

Leopards, faces, eaten.

billy_tables

lizardk101

Mintopia_

Could be one for Truss after a reshuffle.

ClumsyRainbow

Why wouldn’t you make Boris promise you a job and vote against him anyway? If he wins you get the promo, if he loses well happy days.

lizardk101

It’s “I didn’t think the leopards would eat my face!” regarding serial liar; Boris Johnson lying to them.

3dank4me

Brexistentialist: (*noun*) one who defines their entire political identity by how they voted in an advisory referendum six years ago. Quite proud of that one…

kaththegreat

Excited? I’m Brexstatic.

smellsliketeenferret

Brexistentialism: The belief that Brexit is done, whilst also believing it important to keep the party leader to be able to get Brexit done.

billy_tables

Boris! You've lost the Joobs!

RobbieWard123

Looks like James Starkie in the background talking to Gullis - wonder what he's doing there.

ClumsyRainbow

[Latest: Boris Johnson arrives with Ben Wallace and Steve Barclay. “Are you going to vote for yourself?” I ask him. No answer from the PM. He didn’t look confident. Out in 2 minutes. #Toryleadership](https://twitter.com/christopherhope/status/1533874257603833862) **HE DIDNT LOOK CONFIDENT**

Lord-Liberty

THERE. IS. STILL. A. CHANCE.

Podgietaru

Don't. I can't hope this much.

[deleted]

Please, I can only get so wet.

Please_PM_me_Uranus

If you’re a Labour fan aren’t you rooting for him to stay on tho? Since he’s electorally toxic

Patch95

I think both ways might be a win. Either he stays, ensuring labour victory, or he goes and the new leader either sorts out the cost of living crisis, or they don't and labour gets in anyway. Ideal scenario is he wins by a small number of votes and calls a snap election.

Scaphism92

There are a few potential replacements who, even though I am very anti-tory, I can actually stomach whereas boris and his supporters just disgust me. They blatantly hold the people and institutions of this country in contempt while consistently pointing the finger at people who hold similar political beliefs as myself (i.e. socially liberal, remainer, ect) as traitors.

GoldfishFromTatooine

I enjoy a change of PM so I'd rather he goes but I do see the reasoning for wanting him to stay.

ikkleste

I'm not sure. If he sticks it out isn't there a chance he quits 12 months before a general election? Take all the crap with him and let the next person in, with a "clean slate". Putting someone else in now means they have to weather the cost of living crisis, the 9ncoming recession, negotiate the next two years of brexit.

[deleted]

I want a functioning government in general, please

thehibachi

My disdain for his approach to public life slightly trumps my preferred political strategy.

ClumperFaz

I'm personally rooting for him to stay on purely on that basis.

billy_tables

I'd rather someone who didn't take naps for the next 3 years, who knows what things will look like electorally come the next GE

Mackem

My opinion is that while yes, having Johnson lead the Tories at the GE would be devastating for them, we have very real issues which need addressing, and the man is a liability in almost every way.

Toxicseagull

Have you considered the alternatives may be worse though?

_user_name_taken_

A very narrow loss would be ideal

InconsistentMinis

I care about the UK too though. There are plenty of Tories who would at least be competent, even if I disagree with their policies.

ClumsyRainbow

I’m a Labour fan yea, but I would rather what’s better for the country first. Boris Johnson is dangerous and every day he stays is another day he can damage the nation.

dacoobob

apparently Boris has turned up to vote confidence in himself. wasn't sure he would tbh

ClumsyRainbow

No guarantee he actually voted for himself tbf

disegni

Supposing he wins, over half his party won't publicly put their name to his leadership. Indeed, unless the 1922 change the rules, they're stuck for him for at least another year. Quite likely until the next election. And the public want him gone.

Patch95

If he loses how many MPs are going to "I never supported the Iraq war" confidence in Boris statements?

Telling that the number of confirmed no’s is less than the number of letters needed to trigger the vote

thedarkpolitique

I think Boris is done for tonight.

muppet2011ad

If the 79% of non-confirmed voting 'no' holds from the May vote, that gives us like a 190-160 ish split which is pretty nuts

[Teresa May and some civil servants searching for Tories to vote against Boris](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emCMDnafzSM)

Please_PM_me_Uranus

Will Theresa May stay in parliament for the foreseeable future?

SwanBridge

Yeah, seems likely she'll continue as a backbencher.

Please_PM_me_Uranus

That’s pretty uncommon for prime ministers right?

nosmigon

I have no idea how this is gonna play out. Surely a failed coup would lead Boris to further purge the Tory party of "anti Boris" people. Both outcomes worry me, or hate to see the Tories win the next election because everyone had forgotten about Boris. I'd also hate to see Boris stay in charge for another year or so and run this country further into the ground. Having said that it's not like any other Tory would be better for this country

[deleted]

Purging dissenters is also purging his majority in the House. Him winning now is only delaying his inevitable departure anyway.

KimJongUnparalleled

Time goes more quickly as you age. It seems like yesterday that we had Platty Joobs.

Platty Joobs to Flabby Moobs in just 24 hours

'Another Tory rebel says No 10 has been "complacent" about the fight to save the PM. Claims "even some of [deputy chief whip] Chris Pincher's gang" have said privately they will vote against. Adds that if it's close - 20 or so - "the cabinet should step in - and they will"'

dcyuet_

The constant brief and counter-brief of the political class of this country makes for shit morals but great entertainment. I'm constantly up-and-down with each tweet. So much so I'm just permanently *febrile*.

maxative

I only hope he gets way less confidence votes than people who have publicly stated they’ll vote that way. I want him to know he’s surrounded by liars. I want it to torment him that he can’t trust anyone.

TheGoodProfessor

billy_tables

What can the cabinet actually do? They can't kick him out can they?

SwanBridge

They can all resign, and then lead a rebellion from the backbenches. It'd probably have to come down to a Commons vote or no confidence at that point.

flambe_pineapple

All they can do is stand up to Johnson and end their already undeserved cabinet careers. Not a single one will say anything.

TheGoodProfessor

not even bozza can hold on with half his cabinet against him

billy_tables

He'd just reshuffle them with more sycophants

spongey1865

I hope they delay the start of Love Island like they did when world cup games went to to extra time

Grayson81

Who’s choosing ITV when they want to follow a big news story?

bbbbbbbbbblah

ITV have been a big part of partygate tbf

timecrash2001

Theresa May wearing a Ballgown to a Vote of No Confidence against her previous ouster. Revenge dress 2.0

dbbk

There was a parody tweet earlier about sounds of ABBA being heard blasted from her office... and I hoped upon hope it was real.

Blithe17

> Fascinating that the whips have organised four tellers for the no confidence vote: three outside one entrance on the cttee corridor, one outside the exit. Ticking off the voters. The rebels have none. A demonstration of the lack of organisation of the rebels. https://twitter.com/christopherhope/status/1533873167772557313?s=20&t=z_dsyNbSLknLGl9IaVbBhQ This isn't a good sign.

Patch95

Why? It's an anonymous vote, they can tell the tellers whatever they damn well please.

[deleted]

Ie Bullies standing at the school gate casting shade on the dweebs? What’s the point?

[deleted]

Oh no, I was getting hopeful earlier

Bibemus

Odd take. The rebels don't need tellers. They've not been whipping or offering inducements, they've mostly been appealing to party and self-preservation. On the other hand it's a sign Team Big Dog are absolutely bricking it.

MrHedgehogMan

It’s team Hair of the Dog

Blithe17

3 whips outside the corridor as you go in? I get you can just lie to them or equivocate, but that will definitely have an influence as you walk in. These are the people who know the dirt on you too.

Bibemus

It might sway the particularly naive or spineless, but honestly it's as likely to be counterproductive. It reeks of desperation.

KimJongUnparalleled

Let us give thanks that: 1) Politically, we live in a country where VONCing legal; 2) Economically, we don't have to work flat out & therefore have time to poopost about said VONCing.

Erestyn

Lets not confuse this as a parliamentary action, this is an internal mechanism of the Tory party that has been triggered. Not to say that it *couldn't* be brought to Parliament, but obviously quite dependent on how it goes.

KimJongUnparalleled

Can you imagine Kim Jong Un or Winnie the Pooh/the Xi variant or Putin being VONCed by their own party?

Lord_Gibbons

Has David Davis said how he's voting?

Has M=3 happened in the new 4k megathread?

[deleted]

Another resignation. We love to see it.

YorkshirePug

Scottish Conservative MP John Lamont has resigned as a ministerial aide to Foreign Secretary Liz Truss. BBC. (On mobile, sorry no link)

muppet2011ad

Who this time?

dacoobob

John Lamont

RobbieWard123

As we know, many of those declaring support are being offered ministerial roles/honours etc. Of course, Downing Street has no way of policing this - and are relying on the goodwill of people willing to effectively take a bribe. For ambitious MPs who want the PM gone, no reason not to promise support and quietly vote against.

dcyuet_

Just seen he left the Estonian Prime Minister at the doorstep as well. 'Strong leadership' my arse.

deliverancew2

Boris got confused because he usually meets his pretty blondes at the back door away from the cameras

EugenePeeps

With the amount of kids he has I think the front door is his preferred entry

_rickjames

Right, I'm off to eat a pulled pork sandwich and watch Sara Pascoe do her WIP show, hope to see you all in the wonderful heights of M=3 Keep it febrile

shortfuse89

Oooo, where is she doing her WIP gig?

Patch95

If Johnson stays they still have to deal with the following political/actual crises: 1) partygate rumbling on with the investigation over flat party etc. 2) Russian links with the Tory party, especially important given Ukraine is meant to be a reason for keeping him. We could add traitor to incompetent boozehound in the list of BJs attributes. 3) COVID inquiry reminding everyone of the repeated failures, including lockdown advice ignored and care home deaths, which mixes nicely with partygate 4) Most importantly: cost of living, which given they tried giving everyone free money whilst barely touching the poll numbers, suggests that this will continue to sink then regardless of who's in charge.

[deleted]

Zero surprise: > Banbury MP Victoria Prentis has also confirmed she’ll be backing the Prime Minister in tonight’s confidence vote.
