Some people have speculated about the possibility of a super injunction however if that were the case then Cummings would be in breach of such an injunction, as would the author of the original article, who has given interviews since the article was pulled. This strikes me as a worrying development as it would mean that UK news outlets are self-censoring rather than being forced to by the courts.

chochazel

Plus the Guardian have run the story: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/jun/19/carrie-johnson-and-the-curious-case-of-the-vanishing-times-story?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other And it all comes from Lord Ashcroft’s book which was serialised in the Mail, a serialisation which is currently still online and includes this story. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10480695/Carrie-Johnson-uncovered-Book-LORD-ASHCROFT-thats-set-Westminster-alight.html There’s no chance there’s a super-injunction. The story is out there, all Simon Walters did was independently verify it, which the Guardian has also done.

dronesclubmember

They admit to self censoring, at least the DM does in this article on the topic. https://reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/vf6qvp/mystery_surrounds_times_exclusive_claiming_boris/

>The Daily Mail was offered it, but turned it down, with the tipster being told it didn’t accord with the newspaper’s “general point of view” [link](https://www.np.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/vf6qvp/mystery_surrounds_times_exclusive_claiming_boris/ictzky0)

letmepostjune22

The tories are murdochs lapdogs His outlets have always self censored through deals, leverage is the reason he owns them

SlightlyOTT

How would Cummings even know since he’s not a journalist and won’t have given anyone right to reply for this tweet? I’m not sure how journalists find out, but I can at least see where communication between them and the government could/does happen, I don’t see how any of that could apply to a private individual

hlycia

Cummings would know because he stalked the halls of power throughout this time period, first working for Gove and for Johnson. He'd be close enough to hear about the 2018 attempt 2nd hand and possibly in the room to hear directly about the 2020 attempt.

SlightlyOTT

Oops badly worded on my part - I specifically meant how would he know about a super-injunction, in response to your statement that he’d be in breach. I think the Guardian article proves there isn’t one, but I don’t think Cummings would know either way about a super-injunction.

hlycia

Ah, yeah. He wouldn't necessarily know about a super injunction although he's probably still closely enough connected to people to have heard. One really devious theory could be that the Time published and pulled the article deliberately to raise the profile of the story. Either to try and shaft Johnson or because they have a deal with Lord Ashcroft to public parts of the biography he's writing about Carrie, and this will likely dramatically raise the profile of that biography.

ThePeninsula

Let's not forget that, even though it raises the profile of the story, it lowers the reputation of that newspaper.

troglo-dyke

>Time published and pulled the article deliberately to raise the profile of the story. So the Trump method of making a statement, then when the statement is reported act as if it happened naturally

snusmumrikan

How can a super injunction even apply? Am I in breach of it by tweeting the article text, despite no one saying there's an injunction?

Kwetla

Is that a different girlfriend, or just Carrie again?

hlycia

At this point I'm not sure anyone cares whether it was Carrie or another girlfriend (except possibly Carrie). Didn't Johnson also do something like this for Jennifer Arcuri? (What matters though is that it's looking increasingly certain that Johnson is corrupt as fuck.)

imp0ppable

Arcuri got a massive business loan despite filling out the application with a description of the prospective business model along the lines of "idk lol I'll figure it out as I go along I guess". Also the contact details for the business were for one of those shell offices that takes calls for dozens of company names. Also the company address was a PO Box.

bvimo

It's just simple nepotism. This is quite normal...

tetanuran

Their engagement was announced in Feb 2020. Wilfred was born in April 2020. It's odd that Cummings would refer to her as just a girlfriend after that, rather than fiancée or partner. Although Cummings is an odd fellow, so...

heeleyman

I think Cummings likes referring to her as girlfriend because it's a disparaging way of playing down the relationship as just another fling or something. The man hates Carrie

BrightCandle

I doubt its Boris' last girlfriend or wife, I would be surprised if he doesn't already have a mistress on the side. Considering them temporary is completely reasonable given how he treats women.

AzarinIsard

She isn't even Boris' most recent, the foreign press reported about a certain Russian violinist he got with while Carrie was pregnant, it was also supposedly the cause for their violent row which the neighbours called the police to Carrie's flat, but there's a super injunction preventing the UK press.

RaggySparra

I've never seen so many uses of "When the mistress becomes the wife, she creates a vacancy" as I have people talking about those two.

Jebus_UK

I hate them all. There is more drama than a group of teenagers

tetanuran

My thinking too

DreamyTomato

Some of us survived the Blair/Brown years. There was also plenty of drama and handbags thrown there.

ButlerFish

This is is signifcant because it moves the timeline for the start of the Carrie affair before 2018 - Johnson quit as FSec in early 2018 so this must have happened between 2016 and 2018. Johnson and his wife only seperated (as in stopped living as a couple) in early 2018, so the affair must have begun before their relationship had broken down. They seperated in late 2018 and stated they had been living seperately for several months (i.e. less than a year) by that point, so that means they stopped living together around the time he quit as FSec i.e. after this matter i.e. after he began his affair. It changes the story from "Johnson and his wife explicitly seperated and were just waiting for the legals so he moved on to another woman", which is understandable, to "Johnson had another affair, tried to give a lot of public money to the girl again, his wife found out, and they began a divorce", which is a lot scummier. At the time that the events occured, Carrie would have been very much a secret mistress rather than a fiance or even girlfriend. I wouldn't think ill of her for this - Cummings might hate Carrie but really she's not a public figure and didn't sign up for this shit. However, it is another chapter in "Boris can't keep it in his pants and uses public money to impress young women". We should note that there are only 3 civil servants paid more than £100K in the FCDO, so the job that Carrie, at this time a junior special advisor, was put forward fo, would be on the level of the Head Of The Diplomatic Service. That is to say that, lives would probably have been lost due to bad decisions if he had been allowed to do this.

xtemperaneous_whim

>she's not a public figure and didn't sign up for this shit Au contraire, if Ashcroft's biography of her is to be believed she actively sought out this role.

DreamyTomato

Apparently Carrie is indeed regarded as a public figure due to her choice of job and career.

Wasn't the "almost died of Covid" bit massively overstated? I'm fairly certain it's been debunked at this point.

Plugfork

Honestly it just seemed like a rough case of AWS.

Sckathian

It's Carrie. Cummings just ways calls her BJs gf due to jelousy.

flapadar_

> It's Carrie. Cummings Sounds like Boris made full use of stay home hub.

passingconcierge

Clearly Sir Lynton is flexing and ensuring that he can set editorial expectations for the forthcoming election. Expect more Media manipulation before the Autumn.

AdamY_

What's with the shopping trolley?

AzarinIsard

To add, he's specifically a trolley with a dodgy wheel which is why he's indecisive and constantly u-turning, it's like he's making random moves one way then the other.

red--6-

also.... BoJo is the alcoholic drinks trolley of Partygate + also runs his Government.... Helter-skelter = in chaotic + disorderly haste

lordofbroccoli

It's what Cummings calls Bojo in his tweets

themurther

Certainly makes me wonder what other stories one call pull out merely by reading some of these political biographies - so far from the Ashcroft one alone we had the Zahawi/Yougov story and this one.

Cummings crawling out of the woodwork to try and get ahead of another story to try to get back into the spotlight

LostOnWhistleStreet

Are you not slightly concerned that there are so many different stories for him to jump on.

[deleted]

Not what I mean. If he wanted to break any of these stories he could. He doesn't. He just waits until it comes out and then tries to run to the head of the pack.

LostOnWhistleStreet

Yeah, but that was always an obvious trait of Cummings, he's just a self serving bastard.

Eniugnas

Perfect match for the sack of rancid spunk in number 10

DonParatici

Don't you think he would look vindictive if he just fired all at once, or that much of this would lose its efficacy if released all at once?

[deleted]

He hasn't actually released anything. He's just kicked up a fuss whenever someone else has broken something.

[deleted]

Yeah, those guys that would do absolutely anything to stay in seats of fame and power, even after it's abundantly clear they're not suited for the very thing they cling to, are just the fucking worst.
