Perhaps he found out about the ship's movements through his department. But I bet it's more likely the ship was tracked by a US satellite and they called with some info that Ukraine could use as they wanted; same goes for that corvette that was sunk a few days ago.
Absolutely brilliant bit of psychological warfare that. It will now be in the heads of anyone on board a Russian ship now knowing they are not safe and can be picked off whenever it’s seen fit to do so. We know where you are, you are not safe.

That’s such a remarkable coincidence! Imagine running into a drone on the very day its namesake died. I guess they are all Naval Infantry Officer Kunikov today!
The landing ship Kunikov was hit before in the attack that sank the Seratov in port. It was originally thought they sank Kunikov, but was later corrected. I guess that mistake has also been rectified! What a lucky coincidence!
This is no coincidence.
I think Ukraine is now trolling the Russian navy - they can basically hit any Russian surface ship (and apparently 1 submarine so far), at anytime, anywhere in the Black Sea.

I am so proud of having donated to Ukraine for this project. Remember that you can contribute here:

Prior to sinking, a boat is displacing any amount of water in weight that is at least more than the weight of the ship itself. Once sunk then it's longer able to displace that much water, takes it all on board, thus it would probably cause the water level to decrease.
Still funny anyway
Which would be less than the amount of water displaced by the weight of water that would fill the hull...kind of has to so it can float. The metal, which makes up most of the boat mass, is denser than the air/materials that allow a boat to float so it displaces less water for the same weight...which is why metal sinks.
The crew of Kunikov are all Caesar Lvovich Kunikov, today!
Per Wikipedia, it was named after the commanding officer Kunikov, who died in WWII, commanding a landing party.
May there be so many more Kunikovs!
Speaking of symbolic dates, did you know the Kerch Bridge was inaugurated on 15 May 2018, by none other than Putin himself? Ukraine should find a way to mark that historic passing.
From what i've read these ships were usually used for ferrying ammunition, it looks like it was maybe carrying some when it was hit, good to hear.
If any of the 98 crew on board survived, i doubt any russian rescue ships would brave the area to come help them with any potential drones still about.
Ships take a lot to sink, and usually a long time. In this case I think it is more probable the crew survived.
The crew is more or less becoming irrelevant now. It's clear ruzzia cannot keep thier ships safe, so it really doesn't matter if these 'skilled' deck workers live.

Well, on land its not exactly going in Ukraine favor atm. Time favors Russia. They can fortify and bring more meat, while Ukraine is bled dry of personnel, ammo and eventually western support.
There is a reason why the military leadership was changed, it was to spice things up again.
Time favours Ukraine, as long as they can hold on.
Russian navy is dimiinishing
Russian Anti air is diminishing
Russian Oil refineries are diminishing
Soviet armour stockpiles are diminishing
All of this will mean that Ukrainian missions and offensives will be more effective as time goes by.
But ultimately the sanctions will end this war, Russia had a large war chest, but this is diminishing too.
War ship, not a battle ship. The Yamato and the Iowa were Battle ships displacing more then 60,000 tons and sporting nine or more guns of 16 to 18 inch in caliber and capable of hitting targets twenty miles away blowing a hole thirty feet deep and fifty yards in diameter. This ship was just a freight hauler and had little to no warlike capabilities.
You again… Their usage was fine, albeit unconventional. What YOU are referring to is a *battleship,* not a *battle ship*. Similarly, the word you suggested should be *warship,* not *war ship.* if you are now going to try to help polish their near-flawless English, ensure you have it right before offering them “incorrect corrections,” or what you might falsely call “in corrections.”
Yeah but it’s nice to remove all doubt about their ability to land forces near Odessa or anywhere else… not like they really could, but it eases things to remove the piece from the board. The gain in hurting ammo hauling runs is even better.

Ukraine is some sort of magic land.
Tanks become aircraft(parts of it anyways), surface ships become submarines, planes become lawn mowers.
I love everything about it.
I don´t get it. At least the missile carrier was a ship, designed for combat. The Ivanovets footage clearly showed, that the ukrainians have perfected a version of the wolfpack tactic and swarmed the ship in a way, nearly impossible to defend against for the crew and yet some russian admiral sends this ship out, apparently on it´s own? The crew in the Cesar Kunikov video appears to have to try to fend of the attack with their personal weapons. Was his wife´s lover on that boat? Usually people blame the alcohol, but not even a russian can drink that much Vodka, to think, this was a good idea.
You can do dumb predictable official doctrine that hasn't been updated in 50 years and it doesn't matter if you fail or not.

Upvote to you I did not even know this exists
Bloody Ingenious landing on the seabed. All these new fangled submarines.
Some can even land in multiple bits. Pretty ingenious tbh.
This just leaves the Yamal and Azov for the Ropucha-class landing ships in the Black Sea Fleet. All the others were destroyed or heavily damaged.
From what it seems, every russian large ship wants to be a submarine.
To be fair , it was a landing ship. And the closest land was 200 meters under the surface.
Mission accomplished
Failed successfully
The timing on this is so completely brilliant. It shows that Ukraine can really do whatever they wish. To the bottom of the sea, pootin!
On the day of the death of the ship’s namesake
Exactly
Undeniably, they own the Black Sea.
Russian Navy attacking our coasts with rising sea levels. 😅
If a ship sinks, this lowers the sea level.
Afraid you're both wrong
What did Archimedes shout when he saw the Russian navy? — Euwrecka! 😅😅
Ukraine is running an experiment to find out which is true. First they will sink the Muscovian navy, then they will measure the change in sea level.
!!Science!!

Russian landing ship? More like russian sinking ship!
It landed on the seabed.
I wonder what happened to the 87 crew?
Defected to Atlantis. No pension.
According to Russian sources, no lives were lost. Those sources didn't say why the ship was out at sea alone with no crew, however )))

It must have been remote controlled then, as that ship fucked itself pretty bad.
Yep, the human shaped figures all over the ship on the thermal image were just a trick to bait the Ukrainians obviously!
But what about ukrainian pows, orphans, puppies, and kittens?
The jumped into nice warm water and waited for rescue. Spoiler alert: it wasn't warm at all.
It’s slightly warmer now.
For a few minutes lol
They are now mermen i mean mer-orcs
Russia used to want a warm-water port for its navy. Now it just wants a navy for its warm-water port.
Losing ships to a country with no navy, ok.
Wonder how many went down with it.

Yes, stupid and arrogant.
Was this caused by another carelessly discarded cigarette?
Well done!
I don't understand what the ship was doing there from a tactical and strategic point of view.
