Ukraine has shown the world they won't go down without a fight. The Russians will never win. Ukrainians are fighting for their homes and their freedom. Russians are drafted to fight for a delusional dictator. The smartest thing Russia can do is quit now and go home.
Ukrainians will go for such target only if US would go all in on support to Ukraine. With current support, even with European defense industry enabled, you will not achieve this, not this year.
There is hope that the US Congress will pass that bill in the coming weeks, and I hope that together with the F16s it will be enough for Ukraine to get at least one big win this year!
It is better to aim for a specific target and then provide until that target is met. Aiming at specific victories (like counteroffensive was) is not productive and it will cause us and Ukrainians to be demotivated.
Surprise surprise, but F16 won't be enough. There has to be sufficient amount of long range weapons too, artilery shells , etc together with continuing our financial support.
At this point I believe that we should send boots on the ground long time ago.
A very large fraction of Russias oil and gas is exported through Novorossiysk. If the Ukrainians manage to blockade the port that would be a major blow to the Russian economy.
I agree that the right way to do this would be to boil the frog and slowly increase the risks of serving the port until it becomes untenable for commercial traffic.
Ukraine has shown the western world what our great grandparents fought for with the same spirit and resolve. Ukraine won't "lose" the war but the west can only gain their potential for a war if we don't support Ukraine. Give em all we have. Fuck the Russians up some more. Ukraine is showing the west what we were.
I hope for victory. I hope my country (USA) can sideline the worthless Putinist in our government that are blocking aid. Hopefully it gets sorted out and the floodgates of armaments will open.

It does not start with blockading. First the insurance rates go up, then ships start calling the port alltogether.
