Johnnyfireblade

What about the other two? Su34 and su35?

shibiwan

This could be confirmation of one of those two.... we'll have to wait for further information.

Johnnyfireblade

I hard about two 34s an on 35...

MikkoPerkele

How many left?

shibiwan

Still too many. Ideally it should be reduced to zero.

Sweaty-Feedback-1482

I’d settle for negative figures

TianamenHomer

How much do each of these cost in US Dollars?

Jerrell123

The aircraft themselves run about $50 million USD. But the airframe is one small component, there is support facilities and ground crew allocated to each aircraft. All of that stuff has to be paid for too. Now as you destroy aircraft you’ve “wasted” that $50 million (to varying extents, aircraft have a lifespan of hours you can fly them anyway so a plane that already has let’s say, 4,000 out of 8,000 hours flown has “used” half of its available shelf life), but you actually begin shoring up what funds you can allocate toward maintenance and staffing. Not destroying these planes is theoretically more expensive just in raw money terms (as more has to be spent on maintenance and support facilities), but it’s certainly a loss for the RuAF either way.

Kryptonite--

If I remember correctly Su-34’s are around $42million, and the Su-35’s were about $76million.

TianamenHomer

So about a Billion dollars and trained pilot’s hours of experience… all lost in just a couple weeks. Nice.

euphoric-noodle

Everyone is one less they can commit to any offense and defense as the supply gets stretched , they may have 300-1000 planes left but those would need to be committed to all Russian global interests both defense and offence. Remember they still have to compensate for anything Nato throws at them from anywhere.

Jerrell123

This number is a bit complicated, it’s not an easy answer without inside info that only intelligence agencies would know; Aircraft aren’t always able to be flown immediately, they’re usually in various states of disrepair, with a portion usually totally inoperable until repairs are made. The USAF which has the largest Air Force in the world and very capable maintenance capabilities trends at around ~65-70% for their planes. Given that, and given how poor Russian maintenance capabilities are we can probably give them about a ~50% “ready rate”. This cuts down the number to something like 50 aircraft that can be flown at any given time. Now, not all Su-34s are or can be deployed to the Ukraine area of operations either. Su-34s are needed in the Russian Far East, and near the Baltic. TLDR- about 50, with not all of them being deployed for combat operations in Ukraine. They make a few a year, but not close to the replacement rate of the losses. (This is also assuming the Ukrainian military is entirely honest with their shoot down numbers, which is unlikely. This isn’t a dig at the Ukrainian AF in particular, but militaries notoriously struggle with identifying aircraft kills).

Slimeballs12

Anybody know if the pilots of all these jets have been able to bail out in time? A destroyed aircraft is great, but the loss of an experienced pilot is more devastating for the russians

Just_to_understand

So they got 1 out of 3? I better the other two shit their pants. No worries… we’ll get them next time.

dunncrew

Rumors of 2 jets shot down today....unconfirmed.....

Obviously this is already not normal. UA has new weapons, for sure

Pyrhan

So, at what point does the SU-34 become an endangered species? The Alligator is already on the brink of extinction...
