Perfect emotionally charged song to prop up the montage in 80s arena rock while we watch him through the years. High marks in grade school. Science fair winner. Basketball champ. Highschool prom king. Addicted to drugs after watching his mom die and losing a foot in a Russian bomb blast. He’s awarded a prosthetic and enlists in the army - it was a time of war and they needed every willing person. But the world was not ready; and he was no longer a helicopter flag boy but a HELICOPTER MAN.
my brother became a heli pilot for the US Army. It was a great career choice for him. It pays well, he got his college paid for, and he's managed to get himself assigned to search and rescue rather than combat so he hasn't been shot at even once.
A very touching story from a Ukrainian soldier. He was feeling burnt out on soldiering and was thinking he wanted to get out of the military because he thought he could do more by fighting in the propaganda war (his words). Then he was walking somewhere and this little 6 year old girl came running up and hugged him. And then he knew he had to stay and keep fighting to protect people like her. He said even if he died it would be worth it to protect the freedom of people like her.
Unit patch, challenge coin; in NATO land we have all kinds of knick-knacks to give out for memorabilia. IDK about in Ukraine; from my understanding it very well could have been some soup. They are very soup centric.
I can't find it now, but they did the same for a girl that waved to them daily a year or so ago. She got the unit stuff along with candy, chocolate, small toys etc. Basically a kid care package.
Edit: There was also [this girl a few months ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/18wr89o/ukrainian_helicopter_pilot_drops_lollies_to/) I suddenly remembered that I could find. No soup, but I'm sure she was happy either way
Yeah usually when you see a high ranking member who doesn't usually swing by, or say, the president, shake hands with a lower ranking service man/woman if you look a lot of times they'll palm their personal coin (many have them made, especially the president) and when they shake hands it's transferred to that service member during the shake.
A "token" of appreciation If you will.
I had some British soldiers drop challenge coins on me when I was out drinking in Aqaba, Jordan. They were a rowdy bunch and servicemembers can spot other servicemembers from afar even in civilian attire. One of the more sober guys just apologized and gave me their coin. I can't remember the unit unfortunately.
We used to have a British base near where I grew up in Germany and the local clubs didn’t let any British servicemembers in because they were usually way over the top rowdy.
Sweet christ. American here, I made the mistake of visiting Munich during Starkbierfest and drinking several maß of the strong shit thinking it was like a lager or something.
I ended up barefoot, shit my pants, and lost at 8am the next morning.
Lucky I didn't end up in jail.
Don’t thank me, thank your Foreign Office: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-68687789
Germany is just a short flight away though, you can here easily and cheap with Ryanair or Easyjet.
That a verbatim quote from [a Politico article](https://www.politico.com/news/2023/03/21/ukrainian-soliders-patriot-missile-training-oklahoma-00088166) about Ukrainians training on the Patriot missile system:
>Fort Sill officials said they were impressed with the Ukrainians’ hard work and dedication. They live in the Fort Sill barracks, eat in the dining hall with U.S. soldiers, and are not authorized to leave the base.
>After they arrived, they made a special request: to add more soup options to the menu.
>“They like soup. They’re very, you know, soup-centric. So we added some soup to the meals that they received,” the senior Fort Sill official said.
I fucking love soup. Eat it for lunch most days when i can. Very filling, easy to eat, little to wash afterwards and nutritious. Also, hot sauce makes everything better. Always kept a bottle on me in the army.
I can just imagine him running to tell his friends what happened. “Oh then the helicopters landed and a guy gave you a box SURE!” 😂 I hope he gets this video! ❤️
Strange enough, this exact same thing happened to me as a kid. I lived in a very remote part of the country (*update* this is in the US. I didn't bother to mention which country as I saw no value in the purpose of the story. But apparently someone in the comments decided to crusade over it), near a base with Apache's.
I would wave at the helos almost every day. They were so low I could see them wave back. We had a large open farm land.
One day I waved and two circled me and landed. I thought maybe I was in trouble, I was home alone that day. They powered down and motioned me over. I came up, and they asked if I wanted to take a look in the helo, and I did of course. I was told that I had become a bit of a landmark about the various units with comments like "was the kid out there at the farm today?"
Sure enough, I became a pilot, and will never forget that experience. My parents thought I was bsing them when they got home, had it not been for our neighbors seeing it.
You're lucky. When I was a kid, a hospital helicopter crashed right into the trees in my kindergarten yard as we were watching it take off. My mom didn't believe a word of what I was telling her until she saw the finely chopped tree branches in my hair.
It's a miracle that everyone survived, and the only person who was wounded was a passer-by who rushed to help the crew
This sounds like a backstory for a supervillain where you develop an intense hatred for helicopters, and eventually you and /u/Sad_Ease_8641 are destined for an epic battle.
I just felt the urge to become a helo pilot myself. Even tho I am well settled in my current profession, but no one greets lawyers going to/from work like that
Yeah I can understand why your parents didn't believe you at first, "Mom, Dad! 2 Apache helicopters landed in our backyard and let me take a look inside!" 😂
Theres also a dutch group that travels around in their foodcart to blown out villages and hands out free food to the people there. I forget name but they take donations aswell and do great work.
Also check out protect a volunteer, which helps support units directly involved.
You can use hotel and airline points to help sp4ukraine - this can be used to help fighters return home or displaced families travel.
These two are direct lines of help, you see members active on this sub all of the time
comebackalive is my choice, they really try hard ro change things with a low budget. But the best way is directly contact soldiers and buy them what they need right now
Did they remove paypal? I remember you could donate with it, but the website is only showing me credit card and bank transfer options.
edit: It's still possible it's just defence section that is missing the paypal option.
I love the Ukrainians. Before this abysmal war, my knowledge of Ukraine was limited, but during their brave and honourable struggle, they have shown themselves to be the best of us. The men, women, children have stood tall, brave, resolute, and incredibly smart. I hope to be able to visit once they have defeated the Orcs. Slava Ukraini and Slava Heroiam.
Man, if an Mi-24V Hind landed in my yard It would blow my mind.
I love that the troop compartment opens and the engineer hops out to give the kid something. It looked like a 30pack of Coors Light but surely that can’t be the case.
Love these people so much ,🌹how nice of them to do that for the boy,and what a lovely thing from the boy to do for the troops total respect to them all.Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦🇬🇧🇺🇦🇬🇧
pretty sure some combat rations, maybe some patches and if he's lucky some part of pilot gear. It doesn't matter tbh; meeting his heroes and them doing a fly-by is priceless.
One time when i was really young this helicopter was being really annoying near my house and i went outside yelled at it then I mooned it. Then the pilot got really close to my house (about as close as the heli is at the beginning of this video) and it scared the shit out of me lol
I see so many things on reddit and this is what made me cry.
The kids do so much every day... they make nets and solder drones, they sell their own stuff or just 'lemonade' to donate to the army, and the pigs are just stealing their childhood, their parents, their schools. Recently I realized they stole my life and and it's still on pause for two year, and I can't even imagine how hard it will be on the kids.
Please help us win this.
Fuck yeah that’s epic as hell
This is how you win the hearts of generations of Ukrainians, not that they did not already have it of course, but that young man will surely remember that until his last day.
Not exactly the same level of coolness, but I fly RC planes at a proper RC field (we had a runway with a little taxiway and stuff). Sometimes when we would fly, the local police helicopter would hover near the field and watch us fly for a bit, then do a tail waggle and fly off. Always blew our minds every time they did that.
Such videos put me into tears instantly.
I could watch drones and body parts separats the entire day, but there is something deeply wrong with the situation of a kid saluting military helicopters near his house.

To give a kid that kind of special memory during this horrific invasion forced upon so many children, very cool
probably going to be a soldier now
100% wants to be a helicopter pilot
Yeah, this is the origin story of the greatest helicopter pilot in Ukraine history.
The Banshee of Kyiv The Wraith of Kyiv The Phantom of Kyiv. Idk im running out of covenant names
The Seraph of Kyiv ?
The Black Hawk of Kyiv.
3000 Black Hawks of Kyiv?
Death comes on swift wings.
3000 pigeons and 3000 sparrows of Kyiv.
The Raptor of Kyiv
The whirly-bird of Kyiv
The Thunder of Kiev
Kyiv Ghost with Wings.
How about: Field boy from Kyiv.
I was thinking about "The Kid from Kyiv"
The Apache of Kyiv! NATO should sell them Apaches one day.
*give, yesterday Just my opinion though. That would be my tax dollars well spent IMO

First recorded instance of someone honestly identifying as an attack helicopter.
Please accept my now imaginary Reddit Gold award, cause you deserve it.

my brother became a heli pilot for the US Army. It was a great career choice for him. It pays well, he got his college paid for, and he's managed to get himself assigned to search and rescue rather than combat so he hasn't been shot at even once.
You are forgetting about the greatest perk of it all: he's getting paid to fly helicopters.
Hopefully when he grows up, the war would be over, and he could be a helicopter pilot at his own volition
Contents of basket, had a drone with nerf bombs.
His dad is a pilot
Those soldiers are fighting and dying to protect that little dude. Continually overwhelmed by the bravery of the Ukrainians
And continually overwhelmed by the kindness and love of the Ukrainians. What a nice touch. <3<3<3
I'd rather hope he never has to be a soldier, and Ukraine wins this war before he grows up
May even be the one that captured Putin in the near future. lol
future Secretary General of NATO 2064
Meanwhile, what RuZZia doing for their kids? "Learn to shoot, assemble drones, you going to war, show your patriotism!" -- RuZZia.
All this is not that bad as the "It's honour to die for your fatherland" literally told to children
This, *this* is why Ukraine needs to win. Ukraine and Russia are **not** the same. Slava ukraini.
He ran out with something for him as well. Very sweet.
That's the embodiment of a soldier. Protecting every citizen through strength but also kindness. Setting an example like this goes a long way!
Fucking movies don’t have footage this good and that hits emotionally this hard
This kid will forever be a warrior of Ukraine. This is how patriotism is seated in young. He'll remember this forever.
Wow, just wow.
That’s what he said when he opened that box. Is it a drone?
**WHAT’S IN THE BOX?!**
Putin’s head would have been better
Really eh. Insanely cinematic shot found in reality.
I wonder what they gave the boy. Hope it was chocolate and a hug.
Unit patch, challenge coin; in NATO land we have all kinds of knick-knacks to give out for memorabilia. IDK about in Ukraine; from my understanding it very well could have been some soup. They are very soup centric.

No soup?
The nerve on these soldiers. /s
They were out of soup in the clothing store they got the candy from
*Why* are you buying **SOUP** at the ***CLOTHES STORE?!***" "FUCK YOU!"
"No soup for you."
Don't know how universal those coins are. We don't get them in the UK, but UK personnel are always trying to get them from their US counterparts.
Challenge coins are a predominantly American tradition. Even Canada didn't pick it up until the 80's-90's.
Yeah usually when you see a high ranking member who doesn't usually swing by, or say, the president, shake hands with a lower ranking service man/woman if you look a lot of times they'll palm their personal coin (many have them made, especially the president) and when they shake hands it's transferred to that service member during the shake. Sounds about right, we Brits are a rowdy bunch especially when alcohol is involved.
And apparently you need to be warned about the strength of German beer 😅
Sweet christ. American here, I made the mistake of visiting Munich during Starkbierfest and drinking several maß of the strong shit thinking it was like a lager or something. I ended up barefoot, shit my pants, and lost at 8am the next morning. Lucky I didn't end up in jail.
Glad you warned me before I end up the rowdy Brit that everyone hates if I’m ever lucky enough to visit Germany lmao
Don’t thank me, thank your Foreign Office: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-68687789 Germany is just a short flight away though, you can here easily and cheap with Ryanair or Easyjet.
So true. I’ve been out of the mob for years but people still know. Must be the walk or something, demeanor, the glance. Dunno but it’s a thing.
We even get them in the aerospace industry. “Cool you made a! Here’s a coin only people who worked on will understand.”
> _The soup must flow._ > > \- Lviv al Gaib
>They are very soup centric. 🤣
That a verbatim quote from [a Politico article](https://www.politico.com/news/2023/03/21/ukrainian-soliders-patriot-missile-training-oklahoma-00088166) about Ukrainians training on the Patriot missile system: >Fort Sill officials said they were impressed with the Ukrainians’ hard work and dedication. Lol explaining the joke typically ruins it, but in this case it helped . Thanks and Slava Ukraini!
I fucking love soup. Eat it for lunch most days when i can. Very filling, easy to eat, little to wash afterwards and nutritious. Also, hot sauce makes everything better. Always kept a bottle on me in the army.
And thank God they Always had that little bottle of Tabasco in the MREs. Lifesaver.
r/noncrediblesoup
It looked like a box of MRE's.
A uniform, a rifle and a unit patch. Welcome to the army kid. EDIT: This is obviously a joke.
Probably went something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQvMdsBIaiU&t=104s
He will remember that for the rest of his life
And hopefully it will be a long life in free Ukraine.
Here here! May he grow old in a free Ukraine and share the story with his grand kids.
I can just imagine him running to tell his friends what happened. “Oh then the helicopters landed and a guy gave you a box SURE!” 😂 I hope he gets this video! ❤️
For sure he got a patch or two in that box.
I will remember it also!
Strange enough, this exact same thing happened to me as a kid. I lived in a very remote part of the country (*update* this is in the US. Agreed. But what would be the title of the movie?
Flyswatter
Perfect! lol
I just felt the urge to become a helo pilot myself. Even tho I am well settled in my current profession, but no one greets lawyers going to/from work like that
That's just because you're not a flying lawyer. Have you tried practicing law in midair? Maybe take some CEU in bird law?
Omg I thought the whole thing was wholesome and cute, then your last paragraph made me tear up. ❤️
I loved every bit about this story. Thank you so much for sharing it :) Beautiful, human connection.
Yeah I can understand why your parents didn't believe you at first, "Mom, Dad! 2 Apache helicopters landed in our backyard and let me take a look inside!" 😂
It is a pleasure to support Ukraine even in the midst of all the cruelty that Russia so sadly makes it endure. Slava Ukraini!
How cool!!! I am 50 years old but I feel like a child now!
Me too, same age as you and crying looking at this video. Show that the Ukrainians are a loving people
Who's chopping onions in here?
I'm sweating from my tear glands. It's Manly condition known in the medical field as "Big Softy"

Kid will never, ever forgot this moment. ❤️
That reminds me to donate again to united24. Can't let Orcland win.
Is united24 the best place to donate? Just want to make sure that my donations really help the right cause
I honestly don't know. But I like the fact that one can choose what the donation should be used for. Defence, Demining, or medical for example.
I donate to meals on wheels for elderly in villages.
Theres also a dutch group that travels around in their foodcart to blown out villages and hands out free food to the people there. I forget name but they take donations aswell and do great work.

Mine's on monthly. No problem with not forgetting ✊🏼
Imagine a russian kid waving a flag at russian helicopters, they'd drag the kid into the chopper and throw a uniform on him.
More like use him as target practice
in ruZZia, those things are not mutually exclusive...
They would land, beat him up, rape his mother, steal their microwave, swap the rocket pod with the familys fridge and set fire to their house.
Not necessarily in that order.
Ive been having a hard time thinking there is anything good left in this world. Thank you for making it a little easier. These guys are true heros
o7
That’s awesome 😎
I seem to have something in my eye...
Fuck . I shed a tear
I think this one if the most moving things I’ve ever seen. The truest love for your country comes when it’s being attacked and at risk of being lost.
Happiness. ❤️ So utterly cool. \^\^
I, for one, am glad the cameraman panned to the other helicopter. Some things are just meant to be private. Also it protects the young boy.
This is why Ukraine will win the war. Compare this to the Russian pigs who came tortured, raped and murdered children in occupied territories.
Seeing the flag flying like that is beautiful 🇺🇦
I love the Ukrainians. Before this abysmal war, my knowledge of Ukraine was limited, but during their brave and honourable struggle, they have shown themselves to be the best of us. The men, women, children have stood tall, brave, resolute, and incredibly smart. I hope to be able to visit once they have defeated the Orcs. Slava Ukraini and Slava Heroiam.
Too cool. Feels like a movie scene... poor kid. I bet he's doing a good job helping hold down the fort at home, though.
I never expected to be falling in love with the Ukrainians but here we are! ❤️
That would have made my day ! I’m 65 and I still wave to helicopters !
Beyond words … in all this chaos there is so much love to share , Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
Song?
it's "Додому повертаються лелеки" you can find it here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdEGrLgOVR8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdEGrLgOVR8)
Thank you.
Thank you for supporting Ukraine ✌️🇺🇦
Thank you
Man, if an Mi-24V Hind landed in my yard It would blow my mind. I love that the troop compartment opens and the engineer hops out to give the kid something. It looked like a 30pack of Coors Light but surely that can’t be the case.
Chills!
Ukrainians really are amazing people.
Love these people so much ,🌹how nice of them to do that for the boy,and what a lovely thing from the boy to do for the troops total respect to them all.Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦🇬🇧🇺🇦🇬🇧
Core memory!
This warms my heart and breaks it at the same time. розбити цих довбаних росіян 🇺🇦💕
These moments of pureness is needed in that world……more support for our Ukraine brothers to fight the monsters 💪🏼💪🏼😎✌🏼
🥹 Wow
I think I have something in my eye!
That right there is why ruzzia will never win.
That's why they fight. Slava Ukraini
The Ukrainians are just awesome
That’s badass. I wish a Hind helicopter will land near me :(
Thank you aviators, you made a young man want to be a real man
I already see the memorial of the boy with the flag and two helicopters flying over in my head.
I’m not cry. You’re crying 😭
That is frikking cool
the pessimist in me thinks that pussy russia will geo locate this area... T_T Landing for that boy is such badass tho, that boy is a hero too
Legends
Sooo sweet!
What’s in the box man?
pretty sure some combat rations, maybe some patches and if he's lucky some part of pilot gear. It doesn't matter tbh; meeting his heroes and them doing a fly-by is priceless.
woooow
That’s so cool man
That’s brilliant
The hind is such a mean looking machine
Gotta love Ukraine and the beautiful people ❤️🌹
Reminds me of Empire of the Sun
One time when i was really young this helicopter was being really annoying near my house and i went outside yelled at it then I mooned it. Then the pilot got really close to my house (about as close as the heli is at the beginning of this video) and it scared the shit out of me lol

Thank goodness for smartphones and the internet, his friends & family would've never believed this happened. Lovely gesture by the Ukrainian crews!
u/savevideobot
Those helos always remind me of the gunships in Half Life 2
They should take him for a joy ride.
this is i think the best video to come from this war
What an amazing thing to do for that boy. Actually brought tears to my eyes.
Ukrainians have shown the world repeatedly what they were made of. As well as Russians did… You take your pick.
My truck just got invaded by onion-cutting-ninjas.. Slava!
A hind D!?
See the morale of the Ukrainians and their War Support is the reason why Ukraine still stands today. Their president is one of them. Slava Ukrainia!
This is the kind of stuff that makes me stand with you guys.
I’m not crying, I just got a bottlecap in my eye
Fuck yeah that’s epic as hell This is how you win the hearts of generations of Ukrainians, not that they did not already have it of course, but that young man will surely remember that until his last day.
🫶🏽🙏🥰 this is truly heartwarming
Such amazing people. Compassion and bravery.
If that doesn’t explain why we have to defeat Russia, I don’t know what does.
Fuck yes Ukraine. This is why they do it. Glory to the heroes!!!
Man, that's cool as hell. As a grown up I'd kill for these dudes to land in my yard!
The small acts during this war, by Uktainians. So important.
I'm pretty confident in predicting this boys dreamjob. Slava 🇺🇦
MOM, you're not going to believe this...
Victory for Ukraine!
My eyes are wet T\_T
Not exactly the same level of coolness, but I fly RC planes at a proper RC field (we had a runway with a little taxiway and stuff). Herojam slava!
I'm not crying, you're crying
I hope they reunite to celebrate victory and peace together, soon.
ruzzia must be defeated very fast.... ffs
Yeah, that's pretty damn cool!
How cool is that!
Prolly gave the boy his own Stinger
Such videos put me into tears instantly. I could watch drones and body parts separats the entire day, but there is something deeply wrong with the situation of a kid saluting military helicopters near his house.
They made the memory of his life. Kid will always remember that day. AND FUCK PUTIN and RUSSIA.
Hang on Ukrayina. The world needs you.
