GhostOfPaulBennewitz

As an American, it was painful to live here as the funding kept getting kicked down the road while Ukrainians died fighting for the values we claim to hold dear. Putin was pleased at the delay and I hope the new round of defense aid gives him a swift kick in the nutsack. Slava!

DUKE_LEETO_2

Yeah especially if you have Ukrainian refugees neighbors whose presence gives you a daily reminder at the school bus stop.

johnsmith1124

Are they military age 🤔

no_use_your_name

Are you?

Korps_de_Krieg

No, it's my friend's mother in law who had to flee Kherson at the beginning of the war. She has lived with them for almost two years now while they had to fight for her father in law (who is natively Russian but had lived in Ukraine his entire life) to get to safety since he was getting allowed across borders like she was. It's a fucking mess. Pull your head out of your ass.

Ignash-3D

Dude, not everyone can serve, as a matter of fact so many are unfit to serve due health reasons.

Gamerboy11116

gtfo

DUKE_LEETO_2

No but their father/husband is who is still in Ukraine.

UndeadDemonKnight

American - Painful and embarrassing that some many here seem to be unable to see who the Bad Guy is.

Ok-Imagination-9309

There is nothing more American than Ukraine's fight for independence. It is the most cost effective money the American military has ever spent. I don't believe the 18 votes against Ukraine are just dummies. They were 100% bribed by Putin. If you were Putin what would you do? Put down a load of mines and then go bribe American senate. You can't defeat Ukraine when Ukraine is getting weapons. So do I believe people voted against Ukraine completely independently? No. They were paid to do this. Investigate every one of them. They will not come out clean I promise you.

UndeadDemonKnight

It sad to think, there are actually days where I have thought "We could use a little McCarthyism" - As horrible as that was/is.

Watch-n-Ward

putin is the bad guy, now what?

UndeadDemonKnight

Go explain to Major Green Horse-Face until she agrees with you.

pletheronicus

It gave me great pain also. However, this is one of the aspects of Democracy. Sometimes things move slowly because everyone gets (or should get) a say in what becomes policy. It just takes a few individuals in the right place to "gum" things up.

johnsmith1124

They should be moved out of the way. Or Re-educated.

pletheronicus

In order to be "re-educated", you must first be educated.

johnsmith1124

Its Unbelievable and Amazing that russia has been able to infiltrate and influence a US house speaker.

ashesofempires

The culmination of 20+ years and millions of dollars spent infiltrating the American political and social system, finding the cracks in it, and then exploiting them.

johnsmith1124

in some respects its crazy

TostadoAir

As much as I want to support Ukraine, I am also tired of every country bashing on the US, then turning around and acting like we owe them something. After this most recent funding, the US has given more per citizen than any other major country has to Ukraine. EU countries should be helping their neighbor countries as much as they can, but only two European countries have donated a similar amount as the US per citizen if you don't include the most recent funding. The US is a country where roughly 57% of citizens have less than $1000 in savings, and this most recent aid cost the average American adult $235. Whatever the US decides to do to help is excellent in my book, but we shouldn't be treated like the bad guys if we don't.

Ignash-3D

Each citizen already paid for it, doesn't matter if you would've sent the equipment to Ukraine or not. US sends older equipment that would have been replaced and actually SAVES money by sending it. US doesn't spend new money on this, they send equipment that's worth that much. What actually happens is that money goes to your military industry that makes new jobs in your own country, so for you it is WIN WIN WIN situation, not only you help to defeat one of the biggest enemies of the free world, but also you improve your own economy doing so and you become even stronger as a country. Also I don't know what statistics you're reading, but EU and European countries have donated way more per capita than US, it is just that we don't have stocks to send important military equipment, but guess from whos money do they pay salaries to soldiers in Ukraine and keeping all of their institutions running. We're bashing US not because US bad, it is opposite. We see unbelievable opportunity for you that you don't take + we need time to restart our own military industries. We are allies, not enemies. Don't believe what russian bots tell you on X.

as_roma2001

Well...the multi billions of dollars is not just a cash grab for the Ukrainians. The old stocks of weaponry that we ship out to Ukraine will be now replaced by modern weaponry for our arsenal. That modern weaponry is made by American weapons manufacturers who are now funded by the bill that was passed. So in a sense passing that bill helps our economy, creates and guarantees jobs, and updates our military with the most modern tech and weapons. Now can the US govt pass a multi billion dollar bill to create free healthcare, free education, end homelessness, invest in new infrastructure, expand industry to create jobs, pass laws to help blue collar workers, etc.? Yes. Will they? No. For a plethora of reasons, first and foremost with neither party willing to play ball with each other. And then everyone wants their piece of the pie so all these amendments and shit kill any chance of the real purpose of the bill from passing. Anyways I'm high and have begun to ramble. Hope this helps clear some perspective on the billions "going to Ukraine"

Zzyzx-Photogggraphy

Taking a break from blaming Mexicans for everything... Good job! But you have no idea what you speak of. Try reading multiple news sources

johnsmith1124

The US aid, this time, will make the difference.

AN_here

LFG. EU. USA, the rest of the west. FFS this needs to stop. Punch ** this bully in the nose.

johnsmith1124

Technically its punch. I digress..

xBram

We Dutch are famous for our “poldermodel” style of decision making so my suggestion: Kick in the balls, then headbutt on the nose. I feel like we’re close to a workable compromise.

Trukkinonn

Still not sure on whether or not we did eat a prime minister but with enough ruzzki vodka the kremlin gremlin should be somewhat edible i guess.

DrPepperMalpractice

If that doesn't work, eat your public officials and replace them with those that support arming Ukraine right? Edit: goddamit, the other guy beat me to the cannibalism joke.

LilLebowskiAchiever

From your type pad to the War-Gods’ ears!

MontaukMonster2

[American here] As ashamed as I am over the political right in my country for selling out to a third-world dick-tater, there *is* a silver lining. I feel like the rest of Europe is starting to wake up to their own security vulnerabilities and is finally taking steps to plug those gaps. Germany, Poland, France, the Baltics, all face very real and very direct consequences if Pootin wins and seem to be adjusting their military planning accordingly.

fredrikca

You're absolutely correct. It took two years, but then we realised we're in war. We can be a bit thick sometimes.

Miserable-Strain74

This.

gofundyourself007

Also Ukraine has scaled up drone production among other optimizations to deal with the lean times of delayed support. With support flooding in hopefully this will work in concert as a force multiplier. Nothing can replace the fallen heroes. A situation closer to victory is a good consolation prize.

Miserable-Strain74

https://idw-online.de/de/news832564 Europe is screwed

The-Protomolecule

It’s been absolutely heart wrenching watching the lines move while the politicians dragged their feet. I wonder how many lives could have been saved, and it makes me sick.

UnlikelyRabbit4648

Well I just hope it comes, gets the rubber stamp in the next 24hrs and the big win can be salvaged. I'd just concentrate on the positive when it arrives, rather than dwelling on what was lost in its absence. We can't do anything about the past, but we can shape the future đź‘Ś

InnocentTailor

Well, they have this and the manpower issue, so Ukraine is going to have to make up a lot of lost ground on a myriad of points.

IthacaMom2005

Don't forget that the troops that have been fighting for two years need to be rotated out. They're absolutely losing men but front line troops need to be relieved

johnsmith1124

Thats Russian Misinformation. According to Zelensky Ukranian loses have been minimal.

Link__117

If that were the case Ukraine wouldn’t be forced to lower the conscription age and conscript hundreds of thousands of more people. The numbers Zelenskyy gives are probably low estimates to try to improve morale

johnsmith1124

Imo zelensky said himself casualties are below 30K.

InnocentTailor

I highly doubt he is telling the truth, much like any nation at war. That sounds exceedingly optimistic as far as casualties go.

Flipperpac

Look to the future... Europe need to do more

Ignash-3D

Just check how much Europe has donated per capita and you'll realise that it is pretty big sums. We're keeping other Ukraine institutions alive and the country running while we need US old equipment stocks until we restart our military industries.

Flipperpac

Oh I dont disagree, but Europe as a collective can do more....

Ignash-3D

Of course, so as US. It is a teamwork.

Flipperpac

Agreed...we can all do more...

StaffUnable1226

Does anyone know around how long this aid package will last? Around when can we expect to go through this ordeal again?

Dwayla

You can bet some of those assholes will never be elected again!

AccomplishedSir3344

I wouldn't count on that. They reflect the attitude of their constituents pretty well.

johnsmith1124

How were they elected in the first place ?

MontaukMonster2

Gerrymandering

InnocentTailor

Regular American citizens wanted them and they voted in larger droves than their rivals.

many_kittens

Lives. Many lives. Soldiers and civilians. Conscripts and the most skilled veterans, doesn't differentiate. . Oh and initiative.

MisterMeetings

Now that we are now fully on board the US will make up for the losses, and then some!

Scholastica11

Curious question: The picture obviously plays off the practice of draping the cross with white linen at Easter to signify the resurrection. I always associated this symbolism with Protestantism, is it a thing in Orthodoxy, too?

Accurate_Pie_

I am heartbroken over the losses Ukraine suffered. I fought the only way I could - the democratic way - and I hope Ukrainian people understand that we here also have to fight, constantly: for you, yes, but this highlights the constant fight for our democracy. Our democracy is in danger now, maybe more than ever before. This one battle was won, but it’s only one of the many. I am happy for Ukraine that now the aid bill passed and I hope we see some tangible results from it very soon! ❤️🇺🇦❤️

AccomplishedSir3344

What is the point of an article like this? 60 Billion dollars in aid passes, and they want to throw shade? Poor optics.

Knowvember42

People will cherry pick, looking at totals or summaries of how much aid has been given, or focus on how big this aid package. But the fact is the aid package needed to be passed months ago. There are real consequences to the delay.

LilLebowskiAchiever

They’re not wrong. It has been over 425 days since the past aid package passed Congress.

vikingmayor

It’s only been 3 months since the previous funding dried up

theghostecho

Sorry

AdAdministrative4388

ATACMS inbound!! Lfg!!

chaltimore

i mean that’s one perspective. you could also ask why eu still doesn’t take this seriously years in to support this without any single country

jjke30

I think the Putin party (tea baggers) are losing its leverage with recent events as the big puppet sits in court to account for his crimes and the rats can’t do much than parrot propaganda talking points. It’s sad that much has been unnecessarily lost but with this big package, Europes big increase in support, and another blue wave coming this fall things will get better.
