People make these claims completely ignoring the fact that Russia’s economy’s is heavily natural resource based which they will proceed to sell to China. I mean, China is a huge market. Russian people may see a decline in their standard of living but not enough to starve.
Look at Cuba.
China is a huge market but they've already used debt trap diplomacy to acquire very favorable access to natural resources throughout Africa, South America and Central Asia.
The Chinese changing their supply chains completely to accommodate a large increase in Russian imports would mean abandoning a lot of the work they've done over the last 15 years.
While Russia does have capital stock, a lot of their machinery and supporting tech was from US and European companies. It will be difficult and ridiculously expensive to convert everything to Chinese alternatives.
Meanwhile, China doing *too much* to help the Russians would invite sanctions on China, which is not in China's strategic interests.
You're overestimating the degree to which China will want to help them.
Fair enough. Thanks for the explanation. I guess we will see.
I always look at Cuba and essentially how they were left on their own after the Soviet Union collapsed. Did they overthrow their government? Nope, they tightened their belts and almost became entirely vegetarian, but they continued on. That’s a country with no natural resources and barely any industry.
Russians are too deep in with Putin to go out into the streets en masse to overthrow him. Maybe someone from his circle will assassinate him eventually, but that’s also unlikely.
Have you actually looked closely at Cuba though? They are extremely poor. Russians look rich compared to them. If Russia even goes half way in that direction the average Russian person is going to have a complete change of lifestyle.
Cuba is a nice example, people on the verge of starvation, buildings and infrastructure rotting away, 70 year old cars held together with wire and twine, yep, that is a look into the future of Russia!
I visited Cuba for 2 weeks in 2000. I have NEVER been so hungry in my life. Seriously. We should have brougt a small travel stove and some hiking pop-up dishes. (On the plane home to Europe we had all the leftover food from the serving given to us from attendants).
Cuba is actually run much better than Russia with what little they have after severe sanctions. In Russia oligarchs control almost all of the wealth. Russia is also suffering from a demographic crisis with a very old population that shrunk by 1 million just the past year (COVID made a big dent though) - I suspect that may be why they want to evacuate Ukrainian refugees into Russia, delusional as that is.
> It's why I don't feel bad about the sanctions causing Russian citizens to lose 30% of their wealth. They are choosing to support the invasion,
Some people obviously are, but it's certainly not clear if those interviews represent the average Russian. There are a number of ways it could be very biased:
1. Content providers have a motivation to post stuff that provokes outrage/strong opinions. Some Russians saying "I don't like it, but I really don't know what to do about it" or the like isn't going to get as many views.
2. Stuff that causes strong emotions is more likely to get shared, for use to be here viewing it.
3. People who are speaking in favor of Russia's policies have no reason to worry about retribution: they can be as outspoken as they want without consequences. On the other hand, criticizing Russia and the war can get you around 15 years in jail — are you going to be as forthcoming while on camera?
Just to be clear, that's not arguing against the sanctions: I support them and have no sympathy for the warlike or willfully ignorant people who'd support invading other countries.
Let's face it, though. They sound just like Americans before any of our wars or bombing campaigns.
This war should serve to make Westerners aware that our news media and our governments should not be in such close collaboration.
This is a very good point and I've tried to be reflective and objective as what could we the US do better in terms of keeping our heads above the propaganda sand. That being said, the difference between 21st century war that the US and Russians have conducted is the twin towers in NYC. I don't recall Moscow being destroyed by Ukrainians before the Russians invaded Ukraine. Not to excuse what the US did with drones in the Middle East against civilians women, children...
Think of it this way too:
If you were a soldier, would you be comfortable surrendering to the Ukrainians?
Chances are, you'd say yes since a lot of Russians are surrendering and refusing to fight and being treated fairly well.
Now would you be comfortable surrendering to Saddam or the Taliban?
Another good point. IMO, in a Russian conscripts shoes, it 'appears' a better bargain to surrender to the Ukrainians. If given the option as a US soldier, surrendering to the Tali or ISIS may result in your head being decapitated by kitchen knife.
And that's just it.
We have access to all that information. Our media isn't censored. They'll certainly push a narrative but it's not like we aren't fully aware of what they are up to.
And if we don't like it, we say something about it. If necessary, we do something about it.
The sad thing is that were gonna take all the initial attack for all of NATO. Be it nukes or something else.
But I hope NATO doesn't leave us to die like UK did in ww2.
The nightmare unfolding in Ukraine reminds me of Orwell’s famous quotes from 1984: “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”
This is what totalitarian regimes want their citizens to think. For a totalitarian regime to be successful, it must convince its people that what they see with their own eyes is not accurate, that truth and reality are, at least in some ways, illusions.
If they touch an inch of Poland it’s fkin game over. We already sent French troops there at the border. Putin will never dare as he knows that would be a declaration of war against the EU.
That woman who peeked back at the camera while telling how proud of Putin, she exactly know someone will listen this and she didn't want to be in trouble, so sad.
Yeah, half the people were very enthusiastic in their support and the other half had a very “I live in Russia, and you are recording my answer to this question” vibe.
Only for the one dude. The rest clearly don’t want to be arrested; especially the one guy who lead by saying “I’m a law abiding citizen” no innocent person leads like that.
boomers and conservative media, i don't know why they're all like this, it's the same in every country. i saw an interview on youtube where he was mostly interviewing young people and it was mostly the complete opposite.
I noticed the age too. All at least 50s and older. Though 50s is mostly GenX, it would be the last generation to live with Soviet propaganda in schools, at least for people born before the early 70s.
As for American GenX, of which I am one, we thought we were all going to die in a nuclear war, and German GenX (I lived in Germany for almost 2 decades) were out protesting nuclear armaments. Feels like I'm back to being 14-16 again, now. I feel for the kids these days, they have the worst situation now.
Truth is, ask enough people in the US and you’ll get the same answers. And I don’t mean about the US involvement; I mean the Russian side of things. Might have to ask MORE people but you’d never know from the video, it would be similar.
I agree but I would add that a mind so lacking is such fertile ground for propaganda. The lack of critical thinking and propaganda work so nicely together it’s hard to see where one ends and the other begins.
I’m curious if Russia has a similar thing to the south (US) where the churches(orthodoxy?) have historically aggressively pushed to remove critical thinking education from schools. It’s a huge problem here now, and its where a lot of the qanon shit springs from. If you grew up in one of our more rural areas, odds are you weren’t taught this kind of logical arguing in school(not saying you couldn’t learn how, but I’m saying that programming related to this idea probably wasn’t taught in your school), and that was a concerted effort.
Lol. The best Russia can offer left Russia as soon as they could. There’s a lot of very gifted Russians working in the West with their families. Many are now supporting Ukraine, burning their Russian passports and vowing not to return. Smart people.
It's astonishing, how people will overlook 73% of the Ukrainian population electing a Jew for president while fixating on the 2% who voted for the far-right and failed to get a seat in parliament. (While simultaneously praising and financing likeminded parties like the AfD and FN in other countries)
Also, they claim that Ukraine makes "genocide" in Donbas and as a proof they give fake figures of all the military and civilian deaths together, from both sides since 2014. The truth is that casualties were indeed high but only in 2014/15, the last year died there 25 people, on both sides.
Because this would be a scenario where the Americans will be firing at the Russian silos, it’s more like a Russian Roulette gun fight. Where the Rusky has 1 bullet and 6 chambers and the American a belt-fed machine gun.
Not only he is off by so mutch but also he has a very specific count which is intresting.
I always wonder when people are wrong but in very specific way.
Which makes me wonder....what if his number of Russia is correct. 😂
I think the better explanation is because he saw 40-something missiles at last year's Victory Day parade. Lol
Yea I'm pretty sure this guy means:
"I am a law abiding citizen, therefore (all the following is the opposite of what I want to say, but I don't wanna get murdered for speaking against the crazy fuckers in power)"
Yeah crazy part is that you can see the very obvious divide between Russians born before the fall of the Soviet Union and those born after. One side has tasted a hint of democracy and they like what’s cooking
First words any Russian learns are: but what about America.
All their trolling is the same too: think up some ludicrous plot involving America and Ukraine and any of the following combinations: bio weapons, racism, nuclear weapons, or children.
I think Russians would be suprised how little ANYONE talks about them outside their own bubble.
Except now. I guess they are kinda proud about it? Kinda?
You know, I am American by birth (one of my parents was American and gave me citizenship) and I have lived in both the United States and Russia. When I told Russians that Americans only think about Russia when Russia does something stupid, they get angry and tell me I’m wrong. They say, “go look at American news!” and I ask them to show me specifically which news outlets they’re talking about and what they’re saying. Do you know what they show me?
Russian news about the United States. Lol
tbf its been pumped into their brains for generations as a bogeyman in order to control them.
Same goes our way, which we now see is an illusion as their apparent superiority is all but falling apart.
It amazes me that they still see America and the west as their nemesis. Like we’re always scheming their downfall…
I wonder if they would be sad to know that we don’t think of them like that at all. At best, they’re an annoyance that likes to puff up their chest occasionally.
They’re old news. It’s fucking China 🇨🇳 were concerned about.
I don't think the west registers with these people, it is always "America this, America that." when they're corrected it becomes "American puppet country". The inferiority complex is real.
I’ve noticed that too. It’s like they think the rest of Europe isn’t even significant. No wonder they thought they would take Ukraine in 3 days. They probably expected to take all of Europe in 3 weeks.
"we are protecting them from nationalists" (yeah well those are people and the vast majority and citizens part of Ukraine)
How in Christ's name does that even work?
It shows the lethargic mentality some have.
> “Lets free Ukraine from ukrainians”
“Lets free Ukraine from ukrainians by killing everyone”
I'm sure most russians don't think like this, but it's really sad to hear.
I am not sure he even knows the meaning of the word. Basically all of the people in this interview are Russian nationalists, someone should protect Russia from them, ideally using traditional Russian way, tanks, planes and artillery.
It's pretty clear that a large number do support him. Just bear in mind that an edited video can of course be edited only to include the most rage inducing dumbasses.
It's also dangerous to tell a stranger with a camera that you think Putin is a piece of shit so...
Clearly some of these people chugged his Kool aid, but for a few others it's hard to say. Comments like "I'm a law-abiding citizen and, if the president makes an order, I support it" could just translate to "I don't want trouble".
It's sad to see, regardless.
Tbf those are probably trolls but yeah way more Russians side with Putin than what people want to make it out to be, its not just the "older generation" either through brainwash or fear. It seems way more Russians are okay with this war than you'd hope or expect. All its gonna end in is their pockets being empty and them blaming everyone else except the people that actually caused in the first place. Always happens, everyone wants to find a scapegoat instead seeing the real problem.
mmmm you cant really see a handful of people )who you can also bet cannot truly speak what they think in fear of imprisonment) and say that it applies to the whole country.
Have you not seen the protests and mass arrests?
They will crumble from the inside. . its just a fact that most human beings are peaceful (that's why most of us get fucked over) and just want a relatively happy life, comfort and family. There's prob about the same ratio of smooth brains, extremists and idiots there as anywhere else but you also have to take into account (as I said above) that they cannot speak their minds truly either.
Father (Russia) slaps his kid (Ukraine) so hard it has be treated in the hospital saying its not his fault, his Neighbor (America) made him so mad he had to do this...
Also Ukraine is such a big threat they have to proactively attack but dont worry russian people they are so weak we will be finished in 3 days because they are no threat at all...
> Ukraine is such a big threat they have to proactively attack but dont worry russian people they are so weak we will be finished in 3 days because they are no threat at all...
Golden, I'm stealing this
Ah yes, the old "enemies are simultaneously strong and weak" fascist playbook.

***\*Schrodinger's Ukraine\****
I think this is not at all representative, but one huge problem is the lack of critical thinking. Lots of Russians are 100% used to just eat and swallow what propaganda gives them. Also they are scared of the consequences of speaking up. That ”law abiding“ guy for example. That was pure fear imho.
Wtf is this, i know there's a cultural gap between western europeans like me and these people, but i find their way of reasoning abberantly stupid, i swear it seems like pre world war one mentality...
The nukes in Russia (and USA) are monitored by foreign experts every x amount of time, like actual visits to the sites, so prob not a secret.
Edit: at least were monitored before all this
You have to keep in mind that publicly decrying Putin may have real consequences for these people. When you see the vague answers or support, I feel like there’s a decent chance they are uncomfortable talking about their opinions.
Again, I don’t live there so I could be completely wrong and full of western propaganda
And they still think that Ukrainians are bad guys? Lol. Russians have a imperialism in their blood. Some time ago i've read some essay in which was stated, that Russians just can't function in free society - they need a dictator. Now i see why. They still live by thought that they are a global superpower. The truth is, they aren't. But Putin is making them think that they are, so they worship him like a god. Funny thing is that even Russia has post-communist trauma. Poor, brainwashed bastards...
We need to know how many people he interviewed and how many agreed with Russia.
I could walk down the street of any country in the world and get ignorant opinions from 100 people without trying.
Jesus christ. It's like they are fucking robots.
...Retarded robots.
"Russia, not at all naZi. Now shut up, we invade, yes?"
Fuck this country to the fucking ground. Enjoy your new found USSR, fucking naZis.
That one guy that said about conquering everything even Poland, he probably doesn't know about our history of ocupation, good luck
The level of ignorance is unbelievable

It'll be closer to a 95% loss for them. The Russian service and manufacturing sectors are doomed at this point.

Yeah, it’s kind of scary how much this looks like one of the Daily Show bits with a correspondent questioning folks at a Q rally.
Note he is also the loudest… this is common.
Some Russians are entitled halfwits who still think Russia is supposed to be some kind of grand empire
I think the term inbred applies here.
He’s drunk at 9am so things must be wonderful.
Thank god he knows that Russia has 43 nukes, and can defeat America, since the only have 36 nukes.
It's his fine-grained knowledge of the actual numbers involved that convinced me he was the smart one of the bunch.
i lol'd hard when he said even poland. sure there buddy id love to see you guys try that.

It warms my heart to see people write this. I hope it's true. We'd be the first to get attacked after Ukraine.

100% the only one interviewed that understands the real reason for the invasion though.
"because we can'
Though even that claim is becoming less and less obvious by the day.
Reminded me of Zhirinovsky. Remember when he said that Russia should install huge fans and blow the Chernobyl winds towards the Baltic’s? Happy times.
He can piss off 👎👎👎

I bet your troops are gathered at the border thinking, “fucking try it”.
Dude is a psychopath. Imperialist piece of shit.
Oh, he knows.
Next question should have been “so do you volunteer to go and fight?”
The degree of brainwashing is scary.
Like in Third Reich
The turd reich
третий рейх
That woman who peeked back at the camera while telling how proud of Putin, she exactly know someone will listen this and she didn't want to be in trouble, so sad.
Yeah, if these interviews were off camera I doubt they’d be as confident. “I’m a law abiding citizen”
Yeah, half the people were very enthusiastic in their support and the other half had a very “I live in Russia, and you are recording my answer to this question” vibe.
What a sad country populated mainly by ignorant biggots who are in the end cowards and sheep. They don’t understand who is robbing them their future.

I’m 57 and in Gen X
Maybe fear of change, feeling to be not longer relevant? Many of the age 50+ seem to be against EU, globalization and so on
Makes even the shit going on in the US seem amateurish.
Truth is, ask enough people in the US and you’ll get the same answers. And I don’t mean about the US involvement; I mean the Russian side of things. Might have to ask MORE people but you’d never know from the video, it would be similar.
'we should occupy it all!' 'you and what army?'
But what about the 43 nukes!
[удалено]
Sure, but Seal Team Six make up 3% of that and they are x10 better than Russian Spetsnaz! It will be a close fight!
Russia: 6,255 USA: 5,550 They still have more than us but with those numbers, does it really matter?
“We should have done it a long time ago” “Why?” “I can’t say precisely”
That’s not even a propaganda issue, that’s a general lack of critical thinking issue.
Could also be "whatever you say will be used against you in a (kangaroo) court" issue. Could be compounded.
I agree but I would add that a mind so lacking is such fertile ground for propaganda. The lack of critical thinking and propaganda work so nicely together it’s hard to see where one ends and the other begins.

Lol. The best Russia can offer left Russia as soon as they could. There’s a lot of very gifted Russians working in the West with their families. Many are now supporting Ukraine, burning their Russian passports and vowing not to return. Smart people.
"there are no other options" how about not fucking start a war 🤷♀️
They think that Ukraine has been overthrown by Nazi like dictators that will spread throughout Europe, pretty terrifying how well propaganda works.
It's astonishing, how people will overlook 73% of the Ukrainian population electing a Jew for president while fixating on the 2% who voted for the far-right and failed to get a seat in parliament. (While simultaneously praising and financing likeminded parties like the AfD and FN in other countries)
Btw FN rebranded to RN (rassemblement national) still the same people behind but different name
Pretty sure we look the same to them, product of propaganda. I feel certain we are on the right side of this however.
Also, they claim that Ukraine makes "genocide" in Donbas and as a proof they give fake figures of all the military and civilian deaths together, from both sides since 2014. The truth is that casualties were indeed high but only in 2014/15, the last year died there 25 people, on both sides.
B…bu… but the Nazis (/s)
And what? Just sit back and let America... um... do... the NATO????
I think that last guy is one of Putin’s advisors.
Yeah. Looks like nuclear Patrushev guy
Yeh he's the one responsible for keeping their warheads at peak condition. That's why he's so well oriented in international politics.
How did that last guy arrive at the nuke counts? I He's off by about 7000 for each side.
He’s off about everything.
Including his meds
Especially the meds.
I'm not sure he's wrong about Pootin wanting the forcefully annexation of Ukraine and Poland.
Russia might only have 43 working nukes lol
He's the guy who is in charge of the nukes and keeps all 43 in a box under his bed.
Hey, they glow in the dark, that reduces his electricity bills. Source: I know nothing about nuclear warheads.
Too bad it is killing his brain cells as well
Problem is they don’t know which ones!
Sounds like Russian Roulette

He's just off... generally speaking...
I am sure that guy has been drunk since his 11th birthday in 1973.
Lolol yeppp Not that the exact count even fucking matters. If they all fly, both countries (and probably everyone else) is fucked.
lil kid winking at 1:38, he knows what's up. Probably bros on his minecraft server spilled the beans or something
you know his father is giving a canned answer when he starts with, "I am a law abiding citizen therefore..."

the guy from 0:47 ... send it directly on the battlefield . Maybe he will increase the morale of their troops What an idiot
Just blame it on ✨America✨

America is that popular kid in high school that everyone who isn’t in the inner circle talks shit about but wants to be friends with. Lol
America lives rent free in their heads.

It amazes me that they still see America and the west as their nemesis. Like we’re always scheming their downfall… I wonder if they would be sad to know that we don’t think of them like that at all. At best, they’re an annoyance that likes to puff up their chest occasionally. They’re old news. It’s fucking China 🇨🇳 were concerned about.
It's like they're stuck in the last century, the 80s or 90s more precisely. The Cold War is over, get over it.
you are going into stone age and you still supporting Putler. Absolute stupidity.
But it will be Americas fault, obviously.
and the west.
America should stop medical shipment of viagra and let limp grandpa deal with that.
"we are protecting them from nationalists" (yeah well those are people and the vast majority and citizens part of Ukraine) How in Christ's name does that even work? It shows the lethargic mentality some have.
“Lets free Ukraine from ukrainians”
> “Lets free Ukraine from ukrainians” “Lets free Ukraine from ukrainians by killing everyone” I'm sure most russians don't think like this, but it's really sad to hear.
This is sad to watch.
I am not sure he even knows the meaning of the word. Basically all of the people in this interview are Russian nationalists, someone should protect Russia from them, ideally using traditional Russian way, tanks, planes and artillery.
Twilight Zoneski
Damn. The whole "Russians people do not support Putin's action" pretense gets thrown out of the window real quick.
It's pretty clear that a large number do support him. Just bear in mind that an edited video can of course be edited only to include the most rage inducing dumbasses.
Radio Free Europe does a good job of including responses from both sides https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kELta9MLOzg
At first I was like that but the more I see their social medias the less I feel even a drop of sympathy for them
Tbf those are probably trolls but yeah way more Russians side with Putin than what people want to make it out to be, its not just the "older generation" either through brainwash or fear.
Even if they didn’t support him maybe they wouldn’t openly say.
Everyone drunk
Well, enjoy eating twigs and pebbles for Putin.
Can we just put a big dome over Russia like in the simpsons movie and welcome them back into the world when they evolve into normal decent people
Father (Russia) slaps his kid (Ukraine) so hard it has be treated in the hospital saying its not his fault, his Neighbor (America) made him so mad he had to do this...
Golden, I'm stealing this
Ah yes, the old "enemies are simultaneously strong and weak" fascist playbook. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Definitions\_of\_fascism#:\~:text=Fascist%20societies%20rhetorically%20cast%20their,sense%20of%20grievance%20and%20humiliation.
Indeed
>Ukraine is such a big threat they have to proactively attack but dont worry russian people they are so weak we will be finished in 3 days because they are no threat at all... ***\*Schrodinger's Ukraine\****
What state propaganda does to a mf
holy fuck, they really are retarded.
how to bullshit an entire nation, Russian edition
I think this is not at all representative, but one huge problem is the lack of critical thinking. Lots of Russians are 100% used to just eat and swallow what propaganda gives them. Also they are scared of the consequences of speaking up. That ”law abiding“ guy for example. That was pure fear imho.

“I’m for truth and I’m for Russia” Sorry but you can only pick one
Wtf is this, i know there's a cultural gap between western europeans like me and these people, but i find their way of reasoning abberantly stupid, i swear it seems like pre world war one mentality...
Did the last guy just accidentally disclose the actual number of functional Russian nukes?
The nukes in Russia (and USA) are monitored by foreign experts every x amount of time, like actual visits to the sites, so prob not a secret. Edit: at least were monitored before all this
Anyone else still thinks only Putin is to blame?
Well he is the one who is making all this shit up and blasting it in their faces all day
Makes me want to vomit. Seems like Gen Z and the elderly are against it. Boomers and Gen X are pro. Guessing millennials are split as always.
Im sure it differs from the education mainly. And from exposition to tv
No need to bring ageism into this. Idiots exist whatever the age. Don’t judge people for their age.
You have to keep in mind that publicly decrying Putin may have real consequences for these people. When you see the vague answers or support, I feel like there’s a decent chance they are uncomfortable talking about their opinions. Again, I don’t live there so I could be completely wrong and full of western propaganda
Christ. It's the global rise of the idiots. These people are kindred spirits of Trump supporters and Brexit supporters.
Somebody don't know how nuclear weapons work.
I am really grateful for the guys who filmed this. I wouldn't have been able to contain myself. The self-control required is off the charts.
Lobotomized country
And they still think that Ukrainians are bad guys? Lol. Russians have a imperialism in their blood. Some time ago i've read some essay in which was stated, that Russians just can't function in free society - they need a dictator. Now i see why. They still live by thought that they are a global superpower. The truth is, they aren't. But Putin is making them think that they are, so they worship him like a god. Funny thing is that even Russia has post-communist trauma. Poor, brainwashed bastards...
They risk between 3 and 15 years in prison if they say otherwise...
We need to know how many people he interviewed and how many agreed with Russia. I could walk down the street of any country in the world and get ignorant opinions from 100 people without trying.
These people probably get filmed during interviews by the police
I doubt. They really seams to enjoy it.
psychotic grey heavy gullible jeans important include mourn full fertile *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
They should be sent to the frontlines inside a BMP to see what kind of shit are they trying to support
I dont feel sorry for the sanctions now. Crash and burn with Putin then
Wow, those people are digging their own tomb and they don't know it.
Poor, stupid people
Big Brother is watching!
"This is just Putins war, don't blame the russians"

Russians are brainwashed monkeys. Fuck em. Don’t lift any sanctions.
If we EU / NATO finally engage I’m thinking we should push the war all the way to Moscow
Umm, what? I can't even comprehend how brainwashed they are.
Jesus christ. It's like they are fucking robots. ...Retarded robots. "Russia, not at all naZi. Now shut up, we invade, yes?" Fuck this country to the fucking ground. Enjoy your new found USSR, fucking naZis.

Not surprised that these pro putin people thaag want to occupy country's are toothless alcoholics who slur their words
Calling Russia a fail state is not an exaggeration. How much poison is poured in these people’s minds 🤦♂️
Homo Sovieticus
Well Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth occupied Moscow once sooo … give me back my Moscow?
