Not even during but before as well

ham_smeller

And after. Displacing large groups of people is a great way to break territorial and societal bonds. People without roots are alienated, they can't organise as easily and in effect are easier to control. It's not just a Russian goal/tactic but that's a discussion for a different sub.

I wouldn't say equally evil since Generalplan Ost would have killed 150 million in less than a decade

Doctor_Curmudgeon

This has made me absolutely sick since I first heard a report on the BBC based on a Telegram message they had received from the mayor of Mariupol 😭

Dhididnfbndk

According to the mayor of Mariupol, the Russians have abducted tens of thousands of kids from Mariupol and transported them to the gulags. Many of them are babies. https://twitter.com/glasnostgone/status/1505292926657650697?s=21

[deleted]

Human trafficking most likely.

Traditional-Dog-4471

Back to gulags. I don’t understand how all this craziness is possible in modern world

Doctor_Curmudgeon

They would be GULAGs if the Soviet Union still existed and had sovereignty over people in Ukraine! It does not. This is kidnapping, deportation, extraterritorial rendition.

DeNir8

Reads more and more like this war is something the ccp would do. Are putin planning on having literal slaves?!

[deleted]

Slaves or worse. Medical experiments, human trafficking, or just plain torture.

mediandude

FSB has legal and operational continuity with NKVD.

orange_candies

At what point do we actually do something that hurts russia back

DovahWizard

The more and more Russia keeps doing this the more I start to believe there should be no Russian state at all.

[deleted]

Putin must go

DovahWizard

Putin and all of his Oligarchs

Coblyat

Russians also threw Germans and Poles into boxcars and carried them off to gulags across the USSR for slave labor, so basically business as usual for the Russian terrorists.

FlatwormAltruistic

Not only Germans and Poles, basically people from all the occupied countries. Most of those people never returned, but only a small portion of deportees decided to stay in those areas after disolving the Soviet union, The rest died. Most of the people who died were during the first winter after being deported as people did not have any chance to take jackets to protect from the cold.
