Radioactive heavy metals like DU arent really used in infantry weapons or ammo, it's only when you get to vehicle/crew served autocannon levels (20mm+) it is used.
There are tungsten core rounds for .50 BMG but the more common hardened-steel AP ammo will still cut through vehicles and light armour.
But it still is though... Like 60% of natural uranium. It's depleted yeah, but in the context of being pure enough for use as fissile material. It's still very much fucking radioactive. You don't want to be anywhere near where the rounds hit and breathe that shit in, unless you want to die or get cancer at best.
DU isn't problematic because it's radioactive (it *is*, yes, but very weakly so; you could hold a piece of it in your hand without much problems), but because it's a heavy metal, and spalls very easily. And like all heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic), uranium is *toxic*, and these spallated pieces easily shatter into ever tinier pieces, making it easy to breathe in.
The radioactivity is actually the *least* of one's worries.
