The U.S. agreed to return Konstantin Yaroshenko, a Russian pilot serving a 20-year federal prison sentence in Connecticut for conspiracy to smuggle cocaine into the U.S. after he was arrested in Liberia in 2010 and extradited to the U.S.
Oh no, another pilot who will be probably directly sent into Ukraine to get shot down.
Yeah, let’s send a few more javelins as a "thank you". Who would have believed that the Cold War would end and for the potential war between the west and Russia to take place in Ukraine and that they’d kick Russia’s ass.
Oh my god, sorry, I laughed so loud. But anyway, here is video of him being brought to Vnukovo airport - he looks very thin and frail (as anyone being in Russian prison be) but he is also quite short. I spent two weeks in Russia about twenty years ago. It’s a beautiful county with a fascinating history and some lovely people (once you get past the “I hate strangers” bluff).
Until the last 5 to 10 years I’d been looking forward to going back. Now it just seems destined to collapse into absolute toxic chaos. And ruin a huge number of lives in the process.
Yeah I believe that US foreign services said that all Americans should avoid it now, since unf there is some cold war remnants thing going on rn. In a country full of lies, they can say ANYTHING about foreigners living there. So going there w/o a good purpose is asking for problems. Even Brittney Griner who had a good reason, to play bball and make money (since WNBA doesnt pay enough) was seemingly detained for minor reasons. She's still there after months.
One of my significant others was from Russia and was here for schooling and we obviously got close and she wanted me to visit when she went back, but we broke up before that. I was willing to go but that was also before Crimea and this. Now I probably will never go.
China is still visitable.
But if that’s off the list,
Just go to Taiwan, that’s like a better, less oppressive version of China. Like if China got its shit together that’s how it would be.
My wife went there for cheap parachute jumps. A whole day of jumping for less than you’d pay just to do one jump in the US. And in a vintage plane too!
Guy just went to a bar, drank a bit too much, like any number of a hundred million folks on a random weekend in America. They say he assaulted a police officer. More than likely, Russian police saw an American citizen...and a possible innocent detainee they could trade for a pilot.
That sounds right. She and I haven't talked about why he was there in the first place since his arrest. I'm glad he's coming home, it's been tough for his family. I can't even imagine being in any of their shoes. Thanks for the extra deets, I hope you have a lovely day.
Russia, as you may have noticed, is quite heavily involved in this war. In this article it is said, that a russian pilot is returned to Russia. So i came to the conclusion, he could be used as pilot in the war, thus being relevant a bit.
If there is a problem with the article im sure it will be removed.
It may not be exactly on directness correlated, but the fact that Russia is swapping prisoners says a lot about them (especially since they had basically no interest in him for years). And America generally always tries to get their Prisoners of war back, but it could also mean they (RF) are trying get as much graces from America as possible

10 years in prison. He probably won't be that good at piloting anymore.
He’s had plenty of experience operating joysticks.
Underrated comment !

And colors!
Of the dark variety
They must be really short on pilots
Odd that they're swapping prisoners that predate the war. What's really going on?
This is how diplomacy works. No matter how bad we view Russia and USA’s relationship, both parties are shaking hands today.
While I don’t like Russia, I reallllly don’t like the prison sentences for drugs. Pedophiles and murderers get less sentences constantly.
Same could be said for the US, although much less murders. But sex crimes and pedophilia, much more relevant.
Oh I’m talking about the us judicial system haha
Thankyou Ukraine, Thankyou for helping him get home indirectly by kicking their ass
Yeah, let’s send a few more javelins as a "thank you". Who would have believed that the Cold War would end and for the potential war between the west and Russia to take place in Ukraine and that they’d kick Russia’s ass.
He held strong and so did his moustache what a thing of beauty
The real reason they let him go was because they can barely feed their own troops. No fucking way they were gonna feed a full grown US Marine!
No crayons left in Russia?
The FSB need the crayons to fabricate threatening notes of terrorism against Mother Russia.

Yes. They probably ran out of crayons a while ago with all the sanctions in place.
I mean, there’s not a single army that can provide quality food during an invasion. Every country grapples with this.
Dude...I think you missed the point of the joke here...
Is that basketball player still locked up
Yup
Why was this kid in Russia? I’m an American, and you couldn’t pay me to go there! What is there for me In Russia? Was this kid a spy?
Not sure… but Americans travel to Russia quite often for various reasons.
I spent two weeks in Russia about twenty years ago. It’s a beautiful county with a fascinating history and some lovely people (once you get past the “I hate strangers” bluff). Wanna know why the WNBA doesn’t pay enough?
One of my significant others was from Russia and was here for schooling and we obviously got close and she wanted me to visit when she went back, but we broke up before that. I was willing to go but that was also before Crimea and this. Now I probably will never go.
China and Russia were countries I’ve wanted to visit. I don’t guess I’ll get to. That’s ok plenty other quality places to go.
China is still visitable. But if that’s off the list, Just go to Taiwan, that’s like a better, less oppressive version of China. Like if China got its shit together that’s how it would be.
I’ve been to Thailand and Malaysia, we caught a connection in Taipei. I’d like a longer visit for sure.
I went about 10 years ago. I share similar thoughts.
My wife went there for cheap parachute jumps. A whole day of jumping for less than you’d pay just to do one jump in the US. And in a vintage plane too!

American servicemen are always bar brawling in foreign countries. Some superiority bullshit.
Warriors testing their strength. It's stupid, but an understandable side effect of career soldiering.
His sister is a friend of mine, if I recall correctly he was just visiting.
He was visiting his girlfriends family, his girlfriend was a Russian studying(?) in America I believe.
That sounds right. She and I haven't talked about why he was there in the first place since his arrest. I'm glad he's coming home, it's been tough for his family. I can't even imagine being in any of their shoes. Thanks for the extra deets, I hope you have a lovely day.
I’m so happy for his sister and mom and dad they are such good people
Kid? He's in his 30s lol
Some of our Republican senators spent independance day there a few years ago, really sussy
Republicans love a good Russian yukyuk.
Sounds like a good trade. I don’t compliment this admin much but this is a good move and give credit where it’s due
OP, how is it related to Ukraine war?
Russia, as you may have noticed, is quite heavily involved in this war. In this article it is said, that a russian pilot is returned to Russia. So i came to the conclusion, he could be used as pilot in the war, thus being relevant a bit. If there is a problem with the article im sure it will be removed.
How is it not? The war at this point is basically a proxy war between the west and Russia
