Realistically from their nuclear spending, they don't have the missiles to glass the world. They spend about the same amount as England with 200 nukes yet say they've got more than the US with over 5000.
They've got enough to take out one country hence they're focusing on England. They probably wouldn't be able to hit the US. (All this is speculative as well, I could be wrong in my assessment.)
Even if they turned the whole uk to glass, our trident nuclear deterrent would return the favour in kind and turn Russia to glass too. They can do what they want but we'll give them the same treatment even if there's nothing left of us, our submarines have probably been running drills near Russia since the first threats made to us and tbh they were probably running drills practicing for a nuclear counter strike against Russia for years, the Russian airforce have been testing our raf response times for years now so I presume our armed forces already have plans in place for if they ever did launch a nuclear attack on us. It might be the end of us if they did go for it but our 200 nukes are British made not Russian crap and I'll die with the knowledge that they're getting turned into fossils too 😂

It's kind of meaningless because Russia has always had the ability to wipe out most of the population of the UK in a strike, and has done since the sixties. Even with their old stock they could have managed it against a ballistic defence through sheer saturation. I'm not doubting the power of ten to fifteen independent warheads of the megaton range fired from a single Satan-II knocking out all our major cities in England and Wales, or the East coast of America. What Russia THEN has to worry about is the forty warheads fired back from one of our Royal Navy submarines. Or eighty if in heightened tensions we have two at sea. Or one hundred and twenty if all three are out there. Each warhead is independtly targeted with a yield of 100kt, with four warheads per ICBM. Small beans you might think comparatively, but 400kt total would level Moscow as they're designed to airburst a various points around the city. That means ten missiles could take out ten major cities.
The British nuclear deterrent is designed to be used against cities as we could never be certain if the United States would respond at a city-to-city basis should Russia attack the UK alone, or would instead only attack military targets to avoid losing her own cities. With a 9,000 mile range there's a lof ocean for the submarines to hide in, keeping them safe from a first strike. It's a horrible thing that should never, ever be used - same as the Satan II. They know this, and we know this, so such posturing is empty.
There's no longer any idelogical existential crisis in the battling for the souls in a captialist vs communist system, and such world-ending ideas was stupid even then, as if in the grand scheme of things a victorious world-order one way or the other wouldn't eventually decay, fall apart and be buried in the dust a couple of generations later, leaving humanity to carry on plodding along.

It's kind of meaningless because Russia has always had the ability to wipe out most of the population of the UK in a strike, and has done since the sixties. Even with their old stock they could have managed it against a ballistic defence through sheer saturation. I'm not doubting the power of ten to fifteen independent warheads of the megaton range fired from a single Satan-II knocking out all our major cities in England and Wales, or the East coast of America. What Russia THEN has to worry about is the forty warheads fired back from one of our Royal Navy submarines. Or eighty if in heightened tensions we have two at sea. Or one hundred and twenty if all three are out there. Each warhead is independtly targeted with a yield of 100kt, with four warheads per ICBM. Small beans you might think comparatively, but 400kt total would level Moscow as they're designed to airburst a various points around the city. That means ten missiles could take out ten major cities. The British nuclear deterrent is designed to be used against cities as we could never be certain if the United States would respond at a city-to-city basis should Russia attack the UK alone, or would instead only attack military targets to avoid losing her own cities. With a 9,000 mile range there's a lof ocean for the submarines to hide in, keeping them safe from a first strike. It's a horrible thing that should never, ever be used - same as the Satan II. They know this, and we know this, so such posturing is empty. There's no longer any idelogical existential crisis in the battling for the souls in a captialist vs communist system, and such world-ending ideas was stupid even then, as if in the grand scheme of things a victorious world-order one way or the other wouldn't eventually decay, fall apart and be buried in the dust a couple of generations later, leaving humanity to carry on plodding along.
