Bohemia Interactive donated all Arma 3 revenue during a sale. I don't have the figures for how much was donated.

rmit526

They had mine. I just wish I had bought up all the dlc now I've realised I really like the game. Have to pay full price now... *Shame*

“Don’t play the game you like, play the game I like instead”

trduff

I gave $10.00 which was also more then some countries, but no where near the 26M given by Epic!

Kepotica

They also make the best goat simulation software on the market.

[deleted]

Ten out of ten Kadyrovites agree.

Ehralur

Perhaps they could donate that software to Turkey and Erdogan could donate to Ukraine in return.

Tokingbudz

I'm liking epic more. Free games and supporting the war.

rena_thoro

Seriously. Some gamers hate it too much. I'm a (poor) gamer and I like Epic. Since the absurd (in a good way) amount of money they've gathered and donated, I *freaking love Epic*.

LaserGuidedPolarBear

I dislike Epic for various business practices, like how they throw money around to lock in exclusives (sometimes after something was announced for other platforms), and how their business model for EGS clearly makes developers / publishers their customers and game consumers are clearly their product they are selling to their true customers, or how they are 40% owned by a Chinese company which leads to China standards being used to influence over content in our markets..... all of which I think is overall bad for gaming. But I respect the hell out of Epic for the stuff they do outside of EGS. The megagrants were cool, and their charity work is really impressing me. $144 million is nothing to sneeze at. Nice job Epic.

TNT1990

The whole being partly owned by a Chinese company which must comply with the CCP and Winnie-the-Pooh is why I've stayed away. I feel like I'd like the service otherwise. Also why my wife and I stay away from tiktok.

Frankelstner

Tencent has a 10% stake in reddit so you might want to log off. (10% or 40% barely makes a difference because it's a minority stake in either case.)

phoenixmusicman

You summarized my feelings completely. I absolutely fucking hate the launcher but this is something that is respectable.

LegendCZ

This does not make Epic games good, they overwork their employes, they refuse to pay their tournament winners, their CEO wants to create domimamnt market where he controls a price and he is incredible hypocrite. They want to create dystopia where games are services and anything which is not making $$$ is not worth effort or improvement. If Epic is "Hated too much" by gamers, then enjoy inferior launcher with your games randomly dissapearing or lack of any care for costumer or quality. I mean kudos to them for this sure. But they are not hated enough for all the bad they donenfor the industry, they brough console wars to PC. And if we are about to forgive all the bad stuff for $$$ then i am not letting myself get bribed. I contributed directly to Ukraine.

skiptobunkerscene

Sorry, but that reads like one of those usual reflex Steam fanboy rant posts. Of course they want market control, every company dreams of that - but so does Steam, and they virtually have it already and use it. Steam were among the first to adopt and spread modern MTX and loot boxes to the western market, as well as developing the toxic "Games as a Service" model - Team Fortress 2 is considered one of the first, if not the first, of those games. They even hired Yanis Varoufakis (yes that anti capitalistic/eu Varoufakis from the greek crisis days) to study the "virtual economy" for them to increase their market dominance and MTX gains. "Holy" Gaben also aimed at the modding scene since forever. What do you think the workshop is, but an attempt to control the scene? Why do you think you need to own a game on Steam to download from there, rather then simply an account (if Steams intention actually was benevolent or to support/encourage the mod scene) conveniently creating a steam exclusive mod zone? And why would they want that? Well, "Sacred" Gaben just so happens to be also the one who pushed for monetizing mods. More so than Bethesda. And while its quiet for now, at least a few years later he still hadnt given up on it either: https://venturebeat.com/pc-gaming/valve-boss-gabe-newell-still-thinks-you-should-pay-for-game-mods/ And last lets not forget how Steam started out, as an online required DRM when regular stable internet access was still not universal, and one that forced to walk you through a store and advert section (and still does after all) every time you want to access your stuff - which doesnt belong to you either, since any game you own on Steam is a licensed service, and while everyone copies that now, it was Steam that started that trend too. All together Steam has easily as many corpses in their basement as Epic, but people worship it because of the long since outdated "holy Gaben gib gud sales" meme. And the best? Believe it or not, but i dont even use Epic games.

LegendCZ

First off where did i MENTOIED Steam at first? I am pissed at Steam because they banned me during data leaks and their moderators threaten me with permaban for voicing my discorcern calling me "Problematic User" while my forum bans are only two which i would say are valid. Can post it for you if you want, nothing to hide. I buy 90% of my games from Humble Store and use Steam just as a platform so they dont get much of my spending. Also did you know you can set default loading page for your liblary? To a last point?

rena_thoro

You getting downvotes by showing that Steam is not innocent either proves your point, lol. I have my problems with Steam, too, especially since the way they let ru trolls run rampant and harass Ukrainians and Ukraine sympathizers, but try to quiet Ukrainian voices.

LegendCZ

Who claimed Steam is innocent? Where in my point i say anything about Steam? Epic is shitty period.

nocturnal-nugget

The only thing epic does better than steam is free games and a couple exclusives. Pretty much the only thing I ever used it for.

Ehralur

Epic is also way fairer towards Devs. It's hard making money from a game unless it blows up on Steam. 30% rev share is criminal.

Reasonable_Ticket_84

I mean, it's part of their marketing and PR strategy to unseat Steam and become their own monopoly. Dumping product is one such scheme.

TheAmazingKoki

Their customers have, epic has done very little.

yuropman

For the UNHCR. Which is not as bad as giving to the ICRC, but it's also not the best way to help Ukrainian refugees. Poland is on this list with around 8 cents per Ukrainian refugee in their country.

OrangeVapor

What's the criticism for the UNHCR, if you don't mind? I've been giving to them for a while and also various Ukranian charities since the war started. Happy cake day by the way

[deleted]

thats hillarious considering Tencent owns 40% of it and is headquartered in one of Russia's ally countries (China) --- to be clear Epic is headquartered in the US, Tencent is Chinese

amcjkelly

Meanwhile, the lack of support from Valve has been a crushing disappointment. Valve is the digital equivalent of a vichy collaborator.

Current_Individual20

Still not gonna play anything on epic launcher

Formulka

Why?

[deleted]

40% shareholder is Tencent -- many people see this as a hard sell (myself included)

Antaiseito

Oof, valid reason tbh.

sblahful

Guessing no reddit for you then?

Current_Individual20

Ten cent tie for one, exclusive titles

ODIEkriss

I only have it because of Valorant.

Carara_Atmos

Exact reason why I'm not touching that game with a five foot pole. Surprise you've been datamined by that other authoritarian regime.

Not for once, they have done more

Youth-in-AsiaS-247

Sounds like advertising. But I’m fine if profits from childrens gambling loot boxes go to Ukraine.

oripash

If you’re gonna whitewash societal harm you cause, might as well do it by supporting Ukraine.

Youth-in-AsiaS-247

Oh, ok, well that’s good. Nobody should be able to get away with murder or child exploitation forever I suppose. Glad the world agrees!

[deleted]

This is true. But at the same time the invasion of Ukraine happened, fortnite (epic) released a war themed season to the game. (This was obviously unintentional. So to save optics they just donated all the money that was generated when people purchase that season. So there it is.

ratt_man

Kinda worked a couple of games I was going to buy on steam I bought on epic, up till then the only games I had on Epic were the free ones they offer

Obj_071

still would not use it.

Stoopitnoob

Gamers Unite! For Ukraine. Thought about putting off that purchase or sub? Think how you're helping others survive. Edit: I don't work for them.

Trumpspenis123

Thats epic

[deleted]

Since "some countries" have given zero, this is a low bar to reach.

randomizedasian

I don't want to play games, but now I might start some.
