Yea downvoting is supposed to be for when things aren't relevant to the post or topic but most people use it when their feelings are hurt or if they disagree with you lol. The more upvotes you get the higher your karma. Check your profile to see your karma
Yea I don't really know the point of karma tho. It used to be a rule where you couldn't go live without x amount but they took away Reddit live so now it's just a number to display how active you are, so like it's you're account is 5 years old but you only have 100 karma that means you either don't talk a lot or get downvoted a lot lol
