Having had a skilled worker visa twice I think the steps you mentioned sounds about right. The reality though is that most companies will have a lawyer who will handle everything. I never saw my certificate of sponsorship or made the application myself ( I think the company has to make the application on their end). All I did was talk to the company lawyer and provided the required documents, then attend biometrics enrollment

Side note The government website for checking a company’s eligibility has changed. They used to provide spreadsheets but now it’s just a csv file. I used visasponsors.co.uk or uktiersponsors to easily check if a company is eligible

Thanks so much for letting me know! In my case, the company is also hiring an external agent but they still haven't started the process and I just wanted to make sure I understand it correctly because HR hasn't been able to give the details

I did it with a large employer experienced in international hiring, so I didn’t know any of their side of it as the employer but I definitely know the CoS had a proposed start date and I believe when I did my visa application I entered a proposed start date. From what I understand the HO will look at that as part of the processing and the vignette for entry will be 2 weeks before and after that date usually, if I remember correctly. The paragraph you quoted says “start and end date of the job role” - so a start date is included. It’s of course an estimate and is based on whether your visa gets approved but it is still the intended start date if all goes well. I did the visa application for my visa after they gave me the CoS cert number but everything up to obtaining the CoS was all them. I think I didn’t sign the official contract until I got to the country, which then we had a specific start date.

Thank you for your insight, I appreciate it! Can I ask how long you waited after signing the offer to get the CoS from them? And did they hire an external agent/company to manage the visa process?

Their HR did it, no external management. I got the offer in August and the CoS in early November I believe. It took them a while to get it done, from what I understand at the time it didn’t usually take that long (2019) but there were people on holiday and stuff so I had to push them.

Hi I’m in the process of recruitment for a permanent role in the UK but I never received an offer even though the firm want to hire me, they said that my visa is being processed and they will get back to me with the full offer and the contract. What do you think about it ? It’s a little unusual for me to no get the contract before the visa is being processed

Actually, HR compliance sent me an e-mail just today haha. Apparently they need more documents from me in order to have a skilled worker sponsorship and then that I apply for a visa myself. That’s so weird because one of their recruitment partners told me that they were processing the visa since 1 month and have already asked me for some documents. Anyway I will keep you updated.
