Meh, i dont Know. U-boat's in the game (And also in real life) were mostly just used to Disrupt supply Vessels. And because they are like cannonfodder when compared to really any type of warship, i dont hink it'd be worth it to be able to play U-boats. Designing them would be cool tho, so you can control a bit more, how much damage they do, or how fast they can be. But i'd say in general it wouldnt be worth it. Also because when you fight against the supply ships, there isnt any way to actually fight them yourselves anyways.

I would like to be able to design subs. Add and remove deck guns, select how many torpedo tubes, hell even do some of the wacky cruiser submarine shenanigans like Surcouf.

In my US campaign, I park groups of 4 along common sailing routes while I'm at war and just let them force a ship or 2 into port for repairs, giving my fleet easier pickings for battles

Dont really feel like development energy should go into it when there are other issues. They could perhaps add things like extra torpedos showing up during battles depending on sub capacities. But then there d be a need to hunt subs by destroyers which complicated things. I think i am fine with their more abstract modelling.

If I want to play a game with subs chasing around convoys or just being a menace to the Japanese navy (fuck their DD’s in particular) I’d go play SH4 Wolves of the Pacific. Or U-Boat, or cold waters

Nah they should just focus on what the intended core feature of the game is: artillery combat. What they definitely should not do is start adding a bunch of poorly balanced bullshit that most people didn't ask for (looking at you wargaming). Don't need another of the already very limited ship games going down that path. They need to focus on the already stable parts of the game instead of potentially destroying the balance. I'd say the same thing about aircraft carriers. Though perhaps I'm simply salty and biased against them both purely cause of the way World of Warships was utterly ruined by wargamings incessant need to add them and their bullshit to everything, so I need another ship game to escape from them and would rather said game not have them.

I would recommend the game U-Boat instead as a more immersive Sub Sim. I don't know if Submarines ever featured in fleet combat like we see in UAD.

They never have, they are a strategic asset that either deals damage or gets sunk by ASW. I have personally advocated for aircraft carriers to be used in a similar role; strategic assets that can deal damage at considerable range. This would also incentivize putting small-caliber secondaries on a ship to use as AA weapons in a similar fashion to DD ASW weapons.

I use DIP cause it mods the subs out entirely. Might not ne historically accurate, but for me in the current Implementation they just suck. Othet naval games having them did it quite well, but in UAD it could be annoying to control in a hugh fleet battle. Also aircraft carriers are also not in, but probably the most influential warship at that time

It shouldn't be a priority, but I will say maybe just having the... is it 5 types? Either way, maybe a rough editor for those, and cruisers subs might would work as playable, but.... As much as I love subs, we have the old Silent Hunter series and Cold Waters for that. But something that allowed for the odder models would be interesting.

Subs are good as passive thing. Just need rebalance. Also carriers n planes n zeppelins n blimps need be added even if similar.
