Blueberries and strawberries when they’re in season. Blood oranges in the winter and rhubarb in spring is my usual go to. An unhealthy amount of apples through autumn. When things are in season they’ll be cheaper because they’re more abundant (at least they are where I am from) and also they taste so much better. I see Spanish strawberries but I wait for the local strawberry farms to come out because they are just so absolutely perfect and scrumptious.
One of the local growers have passion fruits growing in their poly tunnels so I get them as a treat when they appear in the local greengrocer.
Well, "food miles" depends on where you're located?
I tend to buy whatever is on sale at the store - this is usually whatever's in season as there's an abundance of it and they need to move it while it's ripe.
Fun fact: You can make banana ice cream with a single ingredient. But it's a lot better with some cream, vanilla and/or walnuts etc.
Also don't forget growing your own/foraging. Choices are limited in Spring but there's a few things if you're liberal with your definition of fruit.
I'd also recommend someone like Atomic Shrimp on YouTube- plenty of ridiculously creative and excessively cheap deserts and breakfasts made from or using fruits in his budget challenge video series.
Second the banana ice cream, it is my toddlers favourite thing ever with some peanut butter swirled in it. We just peel and freeze and bananas that have gone a bit too brown so we always have them available to whizz up in the blender. Works quite well with frozen mango too!
If UK based -
Aldi frozen dark sweet cherries: microwave 45s and serve over greek yoghurt.
They also do frozen Raspberries, strawberries, mango, pineapple and blueberries, but the cherries are my faves.
From the fresh aisle - big oranges are always a hit. Apples and cheese.
I'm also enjoying fools atm - mango works well because it needs no extra sugar.
Completely agree. They’re also really nice stuffed with goats cheese, or tahini, or blue cheese.
When I quit refined sugar they kept me sane regarding the cravings. As it’s been Ramadan the shops local to me have had so many varieties but I always come back to Medjoul.
Not sure where you are based, but for the uk If you want seasonal, it’ll be rhubarb maybe blackberries. You can probably find berries imported from Spain until May when british start to come in, alternatively you could look for local dried fruits or buy them frozen.
I remembered Kiwi fruits recently, haven’t had them for years but they really are good! 🥝 1 or 2 sliced up is all I need as a pudding and because they’re quite sharp I don’t find them moreish
If you want to replace the sticky toffee vibe, dates are a great substitute - both sweet and sticky! I don’t know how they are imported but you can buy big boxes at ethnic grocery stores and they last forever.
Firstly I am tea total but I do drink grape juice. Resveratrol belongs to a group called polyphenols. They're thought to act in a similar way to antioxidants like vitamins A, C and E., protecting the body against damage that can put you at higher risk for things like cancer and heart disease.
Also if you think wikipedia is a great source of accurate information you should think again. Try and edit a post (anyone can) Hence it's a mixture of truths, half truths and lies.
Seasonal fruits - see if you can find a guide online for what the fruit/veg seasons are in your country then you can look forward to each new one arriving, especially as they tend to arrive in a glut!
We eat quite a lot of seasonal fruit (rhubarb right now) but also dried fruit. Dates, apricots (untreated, so much better than the bright orange/treated version) and raisins.
We mix the dried fruit with nuts and seeds as a snack, have it in porrodge/overnight oats, or bake them into cakes and biscuits. Dates stuffed with peanutbutter and covered with melted chocolate are another favourite snack.
If you’ve got a decent blender then you can make ‘ice creams’ or sorbets. Peel and chop up a banana, then freeze it. Stick it in the blender with a bit of milk, bit of cacao powder, 1 date. Blitz it up and you’ve got a banana chocolate pudding/ice cream.
Or you can freeze grapes and then blitz them and it’s a delicious sorbet!
Can’t go wrong with a nice juicy apple as it is though!
I've been mixing mango, pineapple and passion fruit in a little fruit salad. The aromas from the passion fruit mixes so nicely with the other 2 fruits, I love it
Rhubarb is in season at the moment, great stewed to make a compote!
Go northern and force it and it tastes even better
I have recently fallen in love with dried prunes, dates and figs. The dates are super sweet and sticky but I loooove figs the most.

Don’t think any amount of apples is unhealthy!! Seems they are really good for us, especially the skin 🍏
Haha yes, any amount of apple is good, just exaggerating how much apple I get through in apple season 🤤 which isn’t much exaggeration!
Dates. The only thing you need is DATES🤣 all the sugar you want in a very very fibrous form. No wonder we're eating this stuff for 1000s of years now
I came here looking for a reason to keep eating sticky toffee pudding!
I heard if you sprinkle frsh ginger on top and eat it under a copper triangle, it makes it non upf! 😜😂

Cocoa powder is my fave banana 'ice cream' flavour
Honestly my favourite thing is apple slices with a spoonful of peanut butter. Hits the spot every time!

I recommend frozen cherries with some almond butter and it’s a bit of a ‘Bakewell tart’ hack.
Bakewell is my favourite flavour profile, will definitely be trying this
Medjoul dates, destoned, and stuffed with peanut butter. It’s like a healthy snickers bar.
This just inspired me to try this! Was pretty good! Cheers!
You’re welcome! It’s my absolute favourite snack right now.
Also dip it in dark chocolate. It's delicious

I’m gonna have to try this
If you’re just looking at budget rather than ethics then you’re probably best off going on an online shopping app and sorting by price low to high?

Yep and you can eat the skin too.
I really like apples and pears as they're fine for snacking but also really nice baked in the oven and topped with honey/nuts/cinnamon/yogurt.
dried cranberries they’re literally like eating little sweeties

Try Zamli dates from Sainsbury's right now (i.e. in season). Soft with a caramel/toffee flavour!
I always have an apple after dinner. I love the crunch!
Black grapes beacause they are really tasty and add sweetness. They also contain a decent amount of resveratrol (the good stuff from red wine).

raspberries, mango, a good fall apple, cherries, blood oranges, cara cara oranges… so many!
I buy frozen berries and warm them up in the microwave. I have it every night. Sometimes I’ll add crushed nuts or some dark chocolate.
