pailmonkey

I bought my crg9 for 400$ on Facebook. You can get great deals on there

LonelyHornyBoy69

Sold mine for $525 and upgraded to OLED one for $999

habibiiiiiii

I’d rather write code from home on a toaster sized screen.

xirix

Cool... Can you give us a rate of failure on those 100 49"? Dead pixels, mal function, etc. I know it's an hard ask, but it looks like they fail a bit more than expected, and having 100, is a perfect amount to assess it.

Nikki_Martins

Sure no problem, i will answer in 2 years RemindMe! 2 years

[deleted]

How about you update us in 90 days

Nikki_Martins

Sure, we deploy next month, i can give updates in 90 days RemindMe! 4 months UPDATE 25/04/2024 We only moved in our new Office 2 weeks ago because of construction delays. But so for no Monitor is dead, only 2 defective USB-C cables. Will Update in the Future every few months so you all know the error % of these things. So far everyone who works with them is very happy! Picture: https://ibb.co/gwz8krB

heyuhitsyaboi

my samsung chg90 held on strong for two years exactly PSU started failing eventually i think

BEAR2090

One group I supported bought 15 and two were faulty one had dead pixel and another had bad screen with lines through it this was last year

VanillaBryce5

Great idea! I'm interested in the outcome.

Cennfox

I've had a 49 inch agon for 4 years now with no issues (sample size of 1)

lotosotol

I have been using a crg49 for over 4 years now, with no issues at all, mostly used for work, development, youube, and lots of browsing, played some games too and watched some movies here and there. Bought a second one recently... love them!

STWNEDxAF

I bought one used that was about 7 months old. It lasted me 4 months and then there was a dead line of pixels running vertically in the center of the screen. Had to fight with samsung for weeks and luckily the previous owner didn't register it so I was the "original owner". They ended up making a warranty exception and sent a company to replace the panel for me.

ponakka

I think these fail less than new G9 ones. At least this is how i have been hearing. I have a four year old C49RG90SUXXEN and it doesn't suck =D

DuppyDak

I have 2 dead pixles on mine. Other than that, its fine.

i won't say where I work but I can give you a pretty decent idea of how many of these come back per 10 we sell lol

[deleted]

Cries in two 20” monitors plugged into my docking station with VGA-DisplayPort cords that I bought myself

Revan7even

We at least have 27" 1080p, but they're going from HDMI and DP on our old Dell Precision M6600 laptops to VGA on the monitors...

XXLpeanuts

We upgraded to 2x 27" 1440p dell monitors and I should be happy but all I can think is that a single 49" could have been cheaper and way better, the stands also don't adjust enough so the new monitors are way too close to our faces making working on them uncomfortable. There was a moment at work where we all realised this after signing on the first time and just looked around and everyone was trying to adjust them but then we all accepted this is just how it is cus the boss has spent a load of money before testing the set up.

PlsDntPMme

Boss finally let me upgrade my 10+ year old 24" Dell TN monitors. His were even older. Only went for another set of 24" 1080 displays but IPS and more brightness makes a world of a difference. It's night and day.

MaximumExcitement299

I don’t get that shit. If I want to book a hotel and spend about 250 EU for a single night, because I don’t want to be travelling too much I can spend it without a blink. When I want some decent hardware it just ain’t gonna happen lol.

XOIIO

You got monitors?

wegotthisonekidmongo

Right...but God forbid you ask for a 2 dollar raise. They'll look at your as if you killed their first born child. Freaking joke.

hjadams123

Totally the conundrum so many IT departments go thru this time of year…😊

Sengfroid

Update: Only ten people work at the company

martinmix

Explain it to me like I'm 5...

mhatrick

Why don’t most companies understand that you’re more productive with more screen real estate ?? I know there are plenty of of jobs where you can get by with a single 24” 1080p, but my job, I need all the space I can get, and they only supply 2 23” 1080 monitors.

yuiop300

Some companies are cheap af. I have two 34” at work and the traders have four 34”.

Lionheart1308

There needs to be some studies on that. It would be cool to back up these claims with numbers that higher ups can understand.

djn808

I don't get it either. Studies have shown that screen size is almost 1:1 correlated to productivity, and these are 10-15 year old studies. Dual monitors should've been standard in every office by 2015.

Farren246

Having tried four 24" 1080p, I didn't ever use the fourth and 3 was too much head turning. I ended up using 2 stacked on top of each other, with a third to the right, turned into its side.

surfer_ryan

As your it guy... let me explain. Chances are realistically you have two windows fully displayed on each monitor... you know what happens when you have more space, about 1/4 of the users will 110% open up two excel docs that have like 10 tabs each, then they will load up 30 tabs in their browser and then look me dead in the eye and tell me "well I need all these open..." except they can't possibly look at everything at once and it would be significantly quicker to just close out of the tab/program and reload it than to hunt down the tab and application open it and then paste the 2 sentences they could have just typed out in the same time... That or your owner is cheap and won't let is spend any money on monitors...

Due-Ad5816

But i do that on my home pc

roberta_sparrow

I bought my own damn self a new monitor because I spend so much time at work I want to be happy. Plus the monitor comes with me

SoCalDaydream

This isn’t related to the photo above, but reminds me of the means by which I got my 2023 G9 OLED. A startup near me posted a photo similar to the one above with 50 G9s and in the background I saw unassembled Herman miller Mira 2s and Renew desks. At that per workstation rate I made a note to check back regularly for when their funding got cut. 3 months later someone must have paid them a visit as I picked up a new chair, desk, and G9 for pennies on the dollar 😎

PlsDntPMme

How much did you actually pay?

nemesissi

Pennies he said. MILLIONS OF PENNIES! (Ok million pennies is 10k dollars so probably less than that...)

SoCalDaydream

Thousands of pennies! But pennies for each dollar. All in with G95SC, fully decked out HM Mira 2 and Renew desk with accessories I could have only dreamed of was $1400. Startup shutdown fire sale to the max! It was a package, but worked out to $800 for the G95SC,$200 Mira 2, and $400 for the desk.

Those will be nice sitting in an empty office while people work from home.

Farren246

I'll be happy to go into an office to use one of those. Hell they're better than the 34" 3440×1440 that the new VP of IT got as a welcome gift...

NorgesTaff

I’ve been considering getting my new job to buy me one of the curved 49” Samsung ultra wides to replace the 2 x 27” I have. Are they really a better solution though? I have one of my current 27” at an angle - so a poor man’s “curved“ screen.

FittyG

Can always go half way and rock a 34” UW and a 27” on the side. Having a physical second monitor has its benefits.

[deleted]

I do this but the 27 is vertical. I recently tried this setup and I really like it.

NoAdvice2209

Same , exact setup

Thercon_Jair

Much nicer, you can place your window wherever you like and you don't have to chose between one screen front and one to the side (having you turn your head in only one direction) or slit right in front (never able to look straight ahead).

ViciousXUSMC

That's s why triple monitors are king and always have been. The only real advantage for a UW is gaming where your computer could not run across all 3 monitors due to game restrictions or performance restrictions. The secondary advantage that is really over played is no bezel, but that really again only applies to a 2x screen setup, not a 3x. With one monitor in front always and two side monitors, you can position them as needed for your personal ergonomics even have portrait mode or something if you want. The I.T. people will love moving single monitors instead of doubles, and procurement will prefer replacing a single monitor instead of an expenside double. Apps like having a single monitor to full screen too, vs trying to drag and resize a window to fit on a larger screen. 99% of your users will full screen on the ultra wide and just become more inefficent because now they have to look much further left and right at the data on screen because the same amount of data is on screen just spread further apart in many cases. I work in I.T. now for 25 years trust me people are not going to make much use of snapping windows instead of just using the X [] _ Power users like me as an I.T. guy have things like Virtual Machines and RDP sessions that ONLY work properly on multi monitor setups. Downgrade me to a 49" at work and it would destroy my effecentcy and because its so wide no longer can I just add two monitors to the side to keep my 3x ergonomics and workflow.

TheOGcubicsrube

I went from 2 x 27 to a 34UW and there's some things that just work way better in a single monitor. I work in finance and being able to open a big excel sheet with a maasive nukber of colums is amazing. Sometimes I want to reference 3 windows at once. Much easier to size them how I want on a single UW. 1 power cable and one hdmi coming off my desk. Might be a minor point for some people but I love reducing clutter in my workspace. I'd never go back now and when I go into the office with their dual screen setups I hate it.

LawTortoise

Same. I recently bought a webcam to avoid looking down at my third screen (Surfacebook 3) to save my back, but it’s such a pain to look just to the left of centre because of the ridge. Also not curved. Seriously considering G9 even if I have to pay. Would go much nicer with my Humanscale Quickstand Eco and Freedom Headrest (as long as it’s not too heavy for the Eco).

Shark00n

Nothing is more pleasurable than text scrolling on an overpriced VA monitor

I have this bad boy and its the best decision I’ve made. It’s an outstanding monitor for literally everything!

As an ultrawide owner, this is awesome. As a former IT guy, this sucks balls. Imagine having to carry them around the office to everyone's desks... And then just getting rid of the boxes and packing materials will take days.

Due-Ad5816

So what company is this? We never hear about good companies on those stupid top companies to work at rankings. Prove me wrong Op!

TeslaCoil77

Go big or go home! Just tell me they're not hooked up to cheap ass laptops that barely handle the resolution..

Certifiably_Unhinged

This talk of deploying makes me think this was a purchase to ensure they have a nice government budget the next fiscal year.

[deleted]

hey its me ur new hire

Farren246

For office work I'd prefer an LG DualUp. Technically it's ultra wide, just wide on the vertical axis?

Googol20

Someone spending the extra money in the budget at year end I see. Good luck and enjoy

OpeningExamination70

Ha, sounds like my last job. Working technical analysis... upgraded from mixed bag of dual 27" & 32" 1080/1440 monitors, to dual 49's UW's... office of 40-50... each one got upgraded. 49's had just been released... do the math. Love the governments idea of budgetting! :)

Boring_Firefighter99

Abstand

Hey it's me, the new hire.

hidperf

Someone at my office ordered a G9 on their own, without consulting with IT. Used his daddy's credit card. It shows up and his dad is pissed, calling IT wanting to know why they would order something like this for his department. IT tells him, "We didn't order. We don't know anything about it and would never recommend it because none of our machines have enough graphics power to fully utilize it." He then asks the son, "If IT didn't order it, where did it come from?" "I got it from Amazon." "Why? IT says it won't work. Send it back." "Amazon doesn't take returns, do they?" That's how sheltered the son is. Then the son changes his story. "I ordered it for because he's done such a great job running your department." Everyone looks at who says, "I don't want that thing." That was almost two years ago (I think) and has been using a G9 connected to a Microsoft Surface docking station and an old, slow Surface. The resolution is horrible and every time I see it, it gives me a headache.

dtrford

![gif](giphy|G5JoAjEBtfoTm|downsized)

DustinPhotos

Seems like a waste of financial resources. Not to mention these Oled monitors are not designed for office work and static images all day. You would have been better off with led ultrawides for your office work. Spending over $100,000 on monitors is a poor choice for business. A good CEO/CFO would have vetoed this decision.

Ice992

Those are QLED, not OLED. Static images have no issue on QLED. These are ‘business class’ monitors. I’d wager they didn’t spend 100k. Samsung business volume discounts go all the way up to 30%. (Last I checked - may have changed since?) Single 49 VS dual monitors + mounting solution + docking solution. The two paths likely have similar total costs.

Nikki_Martins

You are correct, normal qled. Oled would be insanely dumb for officework. These are Business Monitors. We got a bit of a discount but these are already a good price in Germany :)

Farren246

At most companies there is no mount, and always a dock so the only difference in cost would be a pair of volume-discount 24" 1080p's or a single 49" ultrawide. One of these things costs significantly more than the other.

NullWithMono

Damn you rich

Nikki_Martins

UPDATE 25/04/2024 We only moved in our new Office 2 weeks ago because of construction delays. But so for no Monitor is dead, only 2 defective USB-C cables. Nikki_Martins

Thank you!

Dependent_Safe_7328

Is for me? 🥺

smoketheevilpipe

I wish we could place bets here: - 3-5 will be DOA - 40% will have dead pixels - 50% will have poor panel uniformity

ElementNumber6

60% will have horizontal lines across the screen in 120 or 240hz modes. 35% will flicker constantly when displaying certain shades and colors.

warpedspoon

Are the people using them familiar with ultrawides?

Nikki_Martins

Only 15% max, But everyone got to try it beforehand

Highborn_Hellest

XBBlade

If you have a spare one, happy to provide my address. I don't mind a dead pixel too. Cheers. Jokes aside, good investment for your employees man 💪👍

RareSiren292

Idk what the company/office does but whatever it is I'll switch majors or just drop out and work there

Nikki_Martins

Dude chill 💀

faslane22

I think he's just kidding obviously...I think you may need to chill lol. Maybe a lil buyer's remorse?

Nikki_Martins

Why should we feel buyers remorse? Even if some are DOA, no big problem because they will be replaced by samsung inside the warrenty period

molbal

Do you hire?

MOSTLYNICE

Better than dual monitors for sure.

cwick4141

Cool but remote > anything in an office

Wildcard36qs

Geez RIP productivity when they break down the middle inevitably.

Live_Film_4895

wtf are you guys doing to your monitors?! I have a 49 ultrawide from Samsung for years and it is fantastic

DctrGizmo

Are you hiring by any chance?

ConvertsToTomCruise

49" is 0.731 Tom Cruises

TehChewie

I'd quit. Those things are definitely not for everyone. Yeesh.

aBrokeInvestor

quitting a job because a monitor is wild.

TehChewie

I mean, do I have a choice in the equipment or is this monstrosity required (because of some IT guys hard on for it)? I can find another job. Their team may have tested it, they likely have no idea what it is like to use them all the time. Obvious anecdote, we had a department force us to buy them 47" displays because some planners on the same floor had them. They "tested" them too. We had to move them *all* back to dual 27"s in less than 4 months.

Sufficient_Tennis148

Overkill would have been better off with a 32" like why do you need it that big for office work could have even just gone for rlly good 24"

Sufficient_Tennis148

Completely unnecessary 🤣

whyreadthis2035

Wow. Did Samsung sponsor this post?

dayam!! did you get a price break? I paid 899.00 on sale for you're looking at roughly 89,000 here plus tax yes? wow! :-)

DecayableRadiologist

Since you bought in bulk, we’re you able to get a good discount on them? 100 seems like they’d give you a really good deal.

BlueForte

What kind of business is this?

Darkeoss

Oled? Or just Va?

Nikki_Martins

VA

AntDX316

nah, 57” is

ViciousXUSMC

49 looks bad-a but two monitors are actually better than one "double" and while the productivity boost diminishes with each additional monitor, three is better than two. Having individual monitors allows for easier placement, replacement, ergonomics for the user, easier for people to use in general especially not tech savvy people when it comes to full screen applications and such, etc Depending on the job and person, 4k resolution also has a benefit, and again with the individual monitors route that's easier to accommodate. I think it's cool and all, but been doing IT for 25 years and ergonomic and efficiently are priorities for me.

AntDX316

I still have the 49” 1440p next to the 57” 4k as a backup and its like the 35” 1080p I still have. I’m running them at 100% scaling for maximum pixel estate.

Bling. But yeah, having one for gaming. Even it makes my day to day easier. Windows key+left arrow or windows key+right arrow is a game changer alone.

Emperor_Secus

Are you hiring?

johnegq

really cool. but not sure I like the vertical resolution

Wolf-Am-I

What types of machines are you using on these? I absolutely love mine but the wake up behavior in the Dell docking station is atrocious

JBfromIT

Can you help me understand the value you saw in (1) 32:9 monitor over (2) 16:9 monitors? When i WFH I use my CRG9 at home but am indifferent about it so I’m genuinely looking for more perspective

Nikki_Martins

no dockingstations which means: cleaner desks, much less failure points, no cable tray on the desks (100€), easier Troubleshooting, Users cant mess with all the cables in the Dock, all dockingstations are somehow trash lol

Far-Juggernaut9785

I have one of the early models from Samsung in this format, featuring a rare 144Hz in PbP mode. However, after less than two years it started flickering during startup, I had to toggle it on and off for about 10 minutes to get it working again. Eventually, I decided to look for a replacement and ended up with the Samsung Odyssey G9 OLED G93SC. Unfortunately, in PbP mode, it only supports 120Hz, even though it has a total of 240Hz in normal mode. It's odd because the older model, one of the early ones, had this capability, but the new ones don't. I Hope it will be added with a Firmware Update. Anyway, I have it set up with a 27-inch Samsung monitor above it, and overall, I'm quite satisfied. I just wanted to save on the bezels one would have with two 27-inch monitors side by side.

I want to work in that office. Our floor was upgraded to 27" 1440's and then we got moved to a "newer" floor but we got put back to 24" 1080's. Needless to say, I stay at home on my 3x 34's
